Reasoning Won a Class 6 Claiming Stakes race last time out and it was against a tough rival at Carlisle (1m). He won by a neck to Richard Fahey’s Sunnyside Tom the 2/1 joint favorite. The rival had been in good form having finished 4th of 13 in a Class 4 Handicap at the same C&D and followed up with another 4th of 11 in a Class 4 Handicap at the same C&D. Today is a Handicap race but it’s a Class 5 so he should handle the rivals just like the last race. This will be his third race at 1m with the first try for an 8th of 16 by 5 ¾ lengths at the Carlisle (1m) in a Class 4 Handicap. He’s not raced a Class 5 race since last October where he finished 2nd by 2 lengths to Cara’s Request. The rival won 4 of 7 runs from Sept. to Nov. so that effort was very good. The form of the selection in Class 5 reads, 2nd (debut), 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 2nd. Add that to the trip where he’s effective should result in a good outing.

Reasoning Won 4 of his last 6 starts this year. 1m2f form reads 3rd, 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st, and 5th. He stepped up from a Class 6 runner from May and June into a solid performer at this level winning two Class 4 Handicaps in the first two runs last month then a 5th of 10 by only 1 ¾ lengths in a Class 3 Handicap at Newmarket. The latest run was his toughest assignment and did well in defeat. He now tries for a Class 4 Handicap hat-trick today. He was previously trained by Gary Moore until May of this year and that is when he really got going.

Reasoning Turned her game around since being introduced to the Turf. She was unplaced in her first five starts. All five being on the All-Weather for a 9th, 6th, 7tgh, 10th, and 11th. She made her Turf debut in May for a 7th of 11 by 6 ¾ lengths to Gud Day at Leicester (1m2f) in a Class 6 Handicap. It was off to Bath in July for a 2nd placed finish by a neck to Monicalew and ½ length ahead of 3rd Miss Blink. They were 6 lengths clear of the 4th. The three battled it out and ended up 6 lengths clear of the 4th horse. It was at Bath again 5 days ago this time up to 1m4f. She was the outsider of three runners but won by 2 ¾ lengths to Mark Johnston’s and ex-Godolphin Mariners Lodge who won by 2 lengths in his last outing. She beat out a $350,000 yearling and that says a lot with the progress she’s made since being taken out of the All-Weather and they are sticking to the Turf here today.

Reasoning Raced in a Listed race at Naas 18 days ago for his 2011 debut. Usually needs the run. Has improved well in her second start of the year the last two years. 2009 debut was for 6th of 20 by 9 ½ lengths then bettered that with a 1st of 20 by a neck. 2010 was for an 11th of 19 finish by 7 ½ lengths then improved to a 6th of 14 by only 2 ¾ lengths then a 1st of 20 in her third start last year. Her length of defeat last time out was less compare to the last two years and it was a stronger race than the previous two years. She’s always had the same trainer so the preparation should be the same. Jockey J P Murtagh is booked for the first time so that says a lot about her chances of winning.

Re: Flat Racing - August 7th, Sunday Sweet Secret 3.30 Windsor. 0.5 points each way. A bit hit and miss, but does appear to have a couple of things in his favour today, including the ground and how the race should be run. Gets in off a weight that gives him chances if running to par, so looks worth a pop. 8/1 Bet365 (bog)

Reasoning We saw his career best last month when raced 3 times for a 3rd of 11, 1st of 11, and 4th of 9. He was unplaced in her previous 13 starts from September 2009 to June 2011. He won a Class 6 Handicap two runs ago by a ½ length. He was upped to a Class 5 next time out and ould only finish 3 lengths in 4th. It was still a sound effort as she lead until headed approaching the final furlong and kept on same pace. Front runner who should go well in this galloping course.

Reasoning His last two tries at 1m had been at Newmarket in April and last month. He raced prominent each time, ridden 2f out and weakened over 1f out. His other 1m run was at Lingfield where he finished 2nd by 1 length to trainer Jeremy Noseda’s Obsession in February with 3rd, 4th, and 5th winning since. Fourth try at 1m. I think his tactics at Newmarket will go well here and the easier final furlong should have him improve. This is his first run at the track but that should not be a problem. His trainer David Elsworth have won 3 out of 9 here this year.

Reasoning The unexposed WORDINESS who raced at the C&D last time out against a tough maiden field. Those ahead of him were Anatolian, Billy Buttons, Word Power, and Ashiri. All coming from the top yards. He was unraced for D K Weld and was owned by Abdulla. Juddmonte bred. Took keen hold, held up in 6th, shuffled along and outpaced over 2f out, shaken up and one pace after, not disgraced.

Reasoning Raced five times this year for trainer Michael Wigham. Trained by Marcus Tregonning in previous four outings. He was a 290,000gns yearling and current connections purchased him for 8,000gns at Newmarket last October. His record for the current yard is 8th, 4th, 7th, 7th, 7th. The 4th place effort came in his only try at 6f while the other runs was at 7f, 1m1f, and 7f. Tried at Newmarket twice where his only problem was weakening over 1f out and inside 1f out plus they were at thr trip of 7f. He weakened inside the furlong lto and that is a good sign being dropped in trip and having an easier finish. His 4th in the only 6f race for the yard was behind Norville (1st next time out), Flowing Cape (2nd and 1st in next two runs), and Galatian (1st next time out).

Reasoning Trainer J T Gorman and jockey K J Manning had a 1st of 20 in their last partnership. This is their only combo of the day. The selection have been off for 86 days in a much tougher race than this. He finished 5th of 11 by 7 lengths. 2 lengths behind the 4th horse who then raced in a Group 3 next time out finishing 3rd of 11 by a 1/2 length in the Ballyogan Stakes. The 3rd horse raced in that same race two runs later for a 7th placed finish by 3 1/4 lengths. He's only finished in the top 3 four times winning once from 18 starts but he does have one 2nd and two 3rd's here. Gorman have had 2 winners from his last 7 runners. Manning has 1 win and 4 placed efforts from his last 12 rides here. The win came from earlier today. He has two more rides before this one.

Re: Flat Racing - August 7th, Sunday Diamond Johnny G (10/1), Comadoir (15/2) - Windsor 5.00 Draw Bias: Strong bias favouring low numbers due to the slight bend the track has in the middle. Pace Bias: Strong preference to those at the head of the pace. Race Pace: The early pace should be strong as The Name Is Frank and Riflessione will want to challenge Diamond Johnny G for the rail to overcome their wide draws. Selections: Diamond Johnny G and Comadoir will both be at the head of the pace and are drawn well. Both are taking a drop in class.
