GaF
Anyone know if this is accurate or just scaremongering :unsure The key line: "The new system that will replace it is similar to those established in France and Italy," http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/28/internet-poker/uk-online-gambling-laws-change-1068382/

glceud
Re: UK online gambling laws to change. I don't see the problem, does it not just mean that all the sites currently active in the U.K will need to have a U.K license so the only people affected are the money grabbing little principalities that have been handing out licenses to anyone with enough cash to buy one with no real concern for regulation. Hopefully stop the likes of Scam James from dodging their responsibilities to the U.K economy:lol
PGremlin
Re: UK online gambling laws to change. The Italian sites are only allowed for Italian players. If the UK would do the same then also only UK players? That means low traffic... and high rake to cover the costs. And I wouldn't be able to play anymore on any UK sites :loon

I don't see the problem' date='[/quote'] Have you seen how much rake the French have to pay? :loon (this shows it: http://www.pokertableratings.com/poker-rake-analysis/no-limit-hold'em) Actually - skimming how the thread has evolved on 2plus2, it doesn't appear as if the consensus is that that is how it is going :hope
AlunB
Re: UK online gambling laws to change. That 2+2 thread is just a mess. There are a few well informed posters, but most people have no idea what they are talking about. Here is the official news release and statement http://www.culture.gov.uk/news/media_releases/8299.aspx http://www.culture.gov.uk/news/ministers_speeches/8293.aspx And here is Alderney's response to it http://www.gamblingcontrol.org/userfiles/file/Media%20Statement%20-%20DCMS%20110711.pdf Anyone who claims to know what the outcome will be is lying or misinformed. And it won't happen soon. There will be a fairly lengthy consultation process before this becomes law. And according to the Alderney statement that won't be til late 2012 at the latest. You don't want to kill the golden goose. What they do want to do is stop all the UK bookies moving their online business offshore (again) and make some money from the firms spending millions advertising in the UK but based offshore. Nothing surprises me any more in this business, but it would be a shock if the tax was aimed anywhere other than the profits of the business or somewhere else that had no 'direct' impact on the punters. Wow I managed to summarize two government press releases in one paragraph without actually seeing them, I should get a job with a tabloid:lol As far as I can see its good news as long as the bodies employed to finalize the proposal get it right, unfortunatley....................................
