Multiple Entries

Recommended Posts

I've wondered how we can take advantage of this situation. I'll give a theoretical example. Imagine that Nags Head was entered for a midweek handicap and was declared a NR on the day. At the weekend, Nags Head was entered for all six handicap 3yo races on a card, and took part in one of them. 4 days after this, you notice, while checking his entries, that he's entered for a 3yo+ handicap, but in a lower class. Does it tell you anything about connections' intentions?

Multiple entries is a very good thing to look for. I have used to to good effect with the Stuart Williams yard recently. One recent example that he struck with was Cheylesmore. It was a 3 year old, eased in the weights, taking on its elders. He won, so it picked up a penalty, but he then slipped it into its own age group again and ran at Catterick. While he did not follow up at Catterick, the fact he held that quick entry in the first place suggested he would be 'off' at Brighton and the clue was there. That said, it can go the other way. Horatio Carter was backed as if defeat was out of the question at Catterick a few weeks ago, think it was on a Thursday, and had about five weekend entries spread across the two days. He fluffed his lines at Catterick, so that one went astray. If anyone isn't aware, Irish-Racing's website includes all declared entries for horses, so even if they don't run, you can still see when they are a NR, as on the RP and SL websites, non-runs arent included on the profile.
