  1. Re: BBOTD Saturday 29th of September 3.40 Newmarket Bancnuanaheireann - The owner of this runner evidently doesn't particularly like racing journalists with a name like that. However, I have a really sneaky suspicion that Michael Appleby has got his horse very well handicapped for the race today. He looked very good on his first run in England when a solid 2nd at Goodwood despite meeting all sorts of trouble in running. Was then given a poor ride at Ascot in the race won by Boom or Busy. Hasn't run any sort of race the last twice, although as I said, I suspect connections had one eye on the Cambridgeshire. If he runs like he did at Goodwood back in July, he'll make his mark of 91 look very lenient here, and William Carson is an excellent jockey booking. The 66/1 on offer from Stan James is just far far too big.

  2. Re: Flat Racing Saturday 29th of September Cambridgeshire - 3.40 NMKT The support behind Start Right on here unnerves me slightly as he was the last one I scored off the shortlist. 1 pt ew Kings Warrior @ 16/1 Bet 365 1 pt ew Bancnuanaheireann @ 66/1 Stan James 0.5 pt ew Jacks Revenge @ 16/1 Bet 365 Kings Warrior comes here off the back of an impressive win at York off a mark of 91 a couple of months ago, and is an unexposed 5 year old going places now he seems to have got over the problems he had earlier in his career. He's been raised 10 lbs for that victory, but he looked more than 10 lb above his mark when taking the prize last time out. Ground is perfect, he'll see the trip out well, and Michael Murphy is riding well right now. A live contender. The horse racked up a couple of decent wins in the summer which, along with his unlucky 3rd at Goodwood last time, have just got him in here off a mark of 90. Looked well ahead of the handicapper at Goodwood despite being punished 10 lbs for his previous 2 wins. Would have won last time out with a bit more luck, and I think this horse is a good few lbs well in, and George Baker can train them.

  4. Re: PL Golf Competition Phase 3 Table - New Thread Table updated. Bigson puts in a corker with Brandt Snedeker to take the final Ryder Cup place right in the final week. Despite the leading not managing to extend their lead in the final week, both were far enough clear to hold on. Big congrats to Ra1nmaker who has run away with this phase. :clap :clap

  5. Re: PL Golf Competition - Ryder Cup Mini Tournament RULES Ok, we're pretty much going to follow the Ryder Cup points format here. There are 5 groups of players below - everyone must pick 1 player from each of the 5 groups, giving a total of 5 players. The player who's team scores the most points will then win. In case of a tie break, please also predict the final score. :ok GROUP 1 Tiger Woods Rory Mclroy Luke Donald Lee Westwood Ian Poulter Group 2 Dustin Johnson Justin Rose Graeme McDowell Phil Mickelson Sergio Garcia GROUP 3 Steve Stricker Matt Kuchar Bubba Watson Webb Simpson Brandt Snedeker GROUP 4 Keegan Bradley Zach Johnson Jim Furyk Jason Dufner Nicolas Colsaerts GROUP 5 Martin Kaymer Francesco Molinari Paul Lawrie Peter Hanson :ok All entries must be submitted by 17.00 on 27th September. Any queries, let me know.

  6. Re: Ayr ~Gold, Silver & bronze Cups (2012 Edition)

3.30 Ayr - 1pt win Captain Ramius @ 18/1 (Bet365) One horse who will definitely have no issue with today's testing conditions is Kevin Ryan's 100-rated gelding who is very much at home on soft ground. He remains 5lbs higher than for his last win which was a comfortable success at Newmarket last year but recent efforts have suggested he isn't far away from striking once more and he goes especially well at this time of year with all six career successes coming in the late summer and early Autumn. Having returned from Meydan this year he was first on his side of the track over 7f at Newmarket on heavy ground by 3l in a nice race - that was a fine effort after a six-month absence and I think the drop down to 6 on quicker ground at Ripon wasn't ideal last time. I think he needs the ground to be on the softer side to be competitive over this trip in big events but he still ran a good race. This track on this ground will help and the fact he stays further is advantageous. He's in good form and has a top jockey in Pat Smullen on board. He should run another good race and fingers crossed the conditions will bring out victory in him.
    Great call ! :clap
  7. Re: NGS's Disciplined Deep Form Study - Sticking to the rules

Hi Stewartd14, I always follow the results and their the only team I have but not a hardcore fan. Was at Pittodrie for a first time in a few years for the Neil Simpson testimonial, but that was mainly to chum along a pal who is a season ticket holder. Hope you haven't been backing them blind for the last 20 years! NGS
Haha, shrewd move. A bit of a rollercoaster recently from the highs of Europe to the disaster under Mcgoo and the struggle under Pa Broon ! Backing the draw every week would yield the profits I'm sure ! Unlucky today - fingers crossed it picks up again tomorrow. :ok
  8. Re: NGS's Disciplined Deep Form Study - Sticking to the rules

Cheers Stewartd14, I make my share of bad calls and still learning all the time but when I put the work in it normally comes out ok. Laziness and impulsiveness are my enemies in this game and they sometimes beat me! "Dedicated Dons punter" - take it we're speaking "Abaarr-deen" and not MK Dons?
Tell me about it ! :lol For all my sins in a previous life, yes, the Dandy Dons ! Never even noticed a fellow Aberdonian had joined the crew - a deluded supporter also ?
  9. Re: BBOTD Friday 14th of September 15.05 Sandown Bassetterre @ 9/2 Paddy Power Having been given a high enough mark after winning on debut early this year, I feel that Bassetterre has now grown into himself enough to show his true potential. Struggled off 77 initially, but then managed to get off the mark at Haydock back in May with a convincing victory. He was eased that day and still posted a figure which suggests he could win off 82. Struggled when stepped up in class last time at Ayr, however, he ran best of those who were held up at the back and is probably better than his finishing position suggests. Back into lesser company today, and I think he can make his mark of 82 look lenient for Charles Hills.

  10. Re: Flat Racing - Friday 14th September 2012 14.10 Chester Baddilini @ 4/1 Paddy Power The Mark Johnston trained Double Your Money is the unexposed runnerhere and is likely to go off favourite. However, preference has to go to Alan Bailey's Baddilini who carries top weight. Having been hightly tried in some hot races in his short career, he came good last time out at Haydock despite enduring trouble throughout. Re-appears today with a 6 lb penalty and I fancy him to follow up in this weak race. Really was impressed with him last time out and Alan Bailey does well here at Chester. 16.25 Chester Deia Sunrise @ 11/2 Paddy Power Really fancied Deia Sunrise last time out when he tried to lead all the way again and weakened out of it (race worked out well). Keeping faith with him today, however, as I do believe he can win off 90. The worry is the amount of pace there is here, however Chester is a track which suits the prominent racers down to the ground, and I'm hoping Havlin will just sit him on the heels of likely leader Cottesmore. 17.30 Interchoice Star @ 10/1 Bet 365 Can't say these gentleman rider races are my cup of tea, but I've been following this Interchoice Star for a while now and feel he is worth a bet today. Rated a lenient 7 lbs lower on the turf than on the AW, Interchoice Star has also shown he can handle the undulations of Chester when finishing 3rd in the same race last year off a mark 1 lb lower. Showed again that his turf mark looked lenient when a staying on 2nd on his final run of 2011. Comes here fresh, which is a question mark but at the price, I think he is worth taking a chance on. 15.05 Sandown Bassetterre @ 9/2 Paddy Power Having been given a high enough mark after winning on debut early this year, I feel that Bassetterre has now grown into himself enough to show his true potential.
