Re: FRANKEL The horse is a superstar. Has truly caught the imagination, and today he showed something special. He is completely unbeatable and showed it today. As a racing fan, I'm a little bit gutted he isn't going to the Breeders Cup to prove he truly is the best, but can obviously understand the owner's point of view in retiring him. Just a true wonderhorse. The best I've ever seen for sure.

Re: A jay at the races - US edition! Must say I agree with pretty much all of that Jay - the first photo kind of paints the picture - the place just generally has very little atmosphere. Think we were there on quite a big day too (Independence day card). Very cheap, decent racecourse, but just not really a racing experience.

[Flat Racing ~ Saturday October 13th]

3.35 Newmarket - 1pt win Tominator @ 12/1 (Bet365) In races such as this it often seems worth chancing a horse at a big price and although my selection is one of the main contenders in here, I do think he's still half-decent value at 12/1. He's been transferred to Jonjo O'Neill's yard since his recent run at Doncaster but he's a horse who should relish the race conditions here having won the Northumberland Plate last year. He likes coming off a genuine gallop which appears just about certain in a field of this size and should he get the breaks he shouldn't be too far away in this. He took a bit of time to warm to the task this campaign but was better than the bare result when beaten 5l in the Ebor and then he did well to win a Chester handicap over 1m5f as I wouldn't say that was his track. The fact that all 12 horses finished within 5l last time at Doncaster over 1m7f tells me they didn't go mad up front and my selection came home really well to say the race wasn't run to suit. He was beaten 1/2l and runs off the same mark here. The step back up in trip helps and some ease in the ground is of no inconvenience either. Jamie Spencer can hopefully weave his way through this monster field and get him rolling home - hopefully getting on top late on. 3.45 York - 1pt win Sirius Prospect @ 10/1 (Bet365) Dean Ivory's horse has been frustrating this year having made such a mark at the back-end of last season but has shown enough to suggest he can still land a decent prize and today looks like the most ideal chance he's had for a little while. The yard's horses aren't running badly and having needed his first couple of runs since returning this season, this horse lost his chance at the start at York (something he did at Ascot two starts back also). He bounced back to be beaten 2 1/2l in the Diamond Jubilee with the hood and blinkers applied and followed that up with a decent effort in the July Cup. Two of his last three starts have come in smaller fields and one of those at Newmarket and I feel he's better on a genuine flat track. He wants a nice pace to run off which seems more likely today and he continues to fall down the handicap. He's only 1lb higher than when winning this race with ease last year and it may be that he does put in his best efforts in the Autumn. He has no issue with soft ground and fingers crossed he can get back to something like his best so long as he doesn't fluff the start this afternoon.

It's not like he hasn't done it before with accidentally leaving New Approach in the Derby for it only to go and win it when it was supposedly not running in it. There isn't loads of stamina with Hymn Of The Dawn and Phone Trick is a 7.0f pedigree. He's a horse who will handle the soft going, goes for a shrewd trainer, and unlike the other 2 jumpers (Countrywide Flame and Beyond), he will be settled back in the field and allowed to find a rhythm. Trading Leather was debuted in a classy listed race where he found the more experienced rival of Aiden O Brien's too sharp for him on the day. He quickly made amends last time out though, when winning a 16 runner Gowran maiden by a convincing 7 lengths. There has been little to go on since that race to tell how strong the form is, but both his runs have been very impressive on the clock, and I put him a good 10 lbs ahead of his rivals on all known form thus far. That makes the 11/4 on offer look very, very tempting.

Re: Ante Post Bets and Discussion- Flat Thread 2012 Arc de Triomphe 2 pt win Camelot @ 5.5 Betfair Notconvinced about this Japanese jolly Orfevre, and can't help but feel he's priced up based on the successes of past Japanese horses as opposed to what he's done on the book. That said, this looks a very weak Arc and is only getting weaker. That leads me on to this year's champion 3 year old, Camelot. With Snow Fairy, Danedream and now Nathaniel out, I am certain Camelot will take the race in. Was given a poor ride at Doncaster behind Encke and a strongly run Arc will suit him down to the ground. Camelot may not be as classy as some people thought, but I think he most certainly has it in him to win a very sub-standard renewal.
