  1. Best tournament of the year so far on this Tour. Not gonna try and pick a winner, gonna stick to the match bets again this week. Haven’t had a great deal of time to look around, but these two stand out: First Up Robert Allenby to beat Adam Scott – Skybet Was surprised to see these two paired together. Adam Scott is a good player and will win Majors during his career, but Allenby is in that class now and as a multiple winner on Tour should have too much for Scott. Scott has put some decent performances in this year, he has 3 top tens from 4 starts (3rd last week). He has only played twice at Sawgrass, 17th last year, missed cut year before. Allenby too has been consistent over his 6 starts this season (4 top 20 finishes). He missed the cut at Bay Hill last week, but he never seems to perform well there, so I think that can be discounted. Allenby has been getting steadily better over the years here, he has made the last 4 cuts and has finished top 20 in the last 2 years (4th last year). Bernard Langer to beat Colin Montgomerie - Skybet Langer has played 7 events in the States and whilst not doing anything special, he has made every cut. Looking at his results his last rounds have been letting him down, he has only broken 70 once in the final round this season. But it should all be over by then!! He has missed only 1 cut here in 18 attempts. Monty won last week in the Far East, good for him, but he has always been found wanting in the States. Even at the peak of powers he didn’t cross the line. His win last week will have boosted his confidence, and had he been playing in Europe then I am sure it would have spurred him on, but not at Sawgrass. Monty has finished 3rd here only four years ago, but he has struggled since then, and I cannot see him making the cut this year. Hopefully will get some time to have a look around at some of the specials before the tournament kicks in tomorrow.

  2. Fri Leeds -8 (Paddy) v Wigan +14 (BlueSq) St Helens -24 (Paddy/Coral) v Widnes +30 (Ladbrokes) Sat Salford +2 (SpOdds) v Wakefield +2 (Totalbet) Sun Huddersfield +18 (gen) v Bradford -14 (Coral) Warrington -10 (Surrey) v Castleford +16 (Betdirect) Hull FC -16 (Coral) v London +20 (Ladbrokes) Thoughts: Leeds v Wigan Wigan do have a few players out, although some have reportedly recovered from knocks. Wigan do have some promising youngsters mixed in with the experience, the youngsters did not let the side down last year, and so I don't see why they should this year. Leeds have the disappointment of last week's challenge cup defeat to overcome and Tony Smith will send out a much changed side tonight. Last season's meetings were closely fought affairs, and with wet and windy weather forecast for tonight Wigan are begging to be backed with the start. Huddersfield v Bradford Huddersfield have made a great start to the Superleague, and you can only beat what is put in front of you, but to be fair neither Castleford nor Widnes are in the same class as Bradford. Costin is still out for Huddersfield (although that made no difference a fortnight ago). Bradford have their own injuries problems with no less than 5 first team regulars missing. But Robbie Paul returns tonight after being out with his arm. This will prove a massive boost for Bradford. The weather should be set fair for Sunday, so grab the -14 before it all goes!!! Hopefully will have a bit more info later when a few more books put their totals up for tonight's game, although the under 44.5 on betfair (at around 4/5) looks a shade on the high side.

  3. Re: do yankee's work In my opinion it does make any difference on what sport you place bets like Yankees, Lucky 15's etc. it the effect that losers have on the number of bets you have left to run: Yankee = 11 bets, Yankee with 1 loser = 4 Bets (3 doubles 1 Treble) - so for 1 loser you have done in 7 units. The more selections you combine the worse it gets. eg Goliath - 8 selections 246 bets (doubles and upwards), just one loser drops this down to 120 bets - that is expensive!!!

  4. Tiger Woods goes for an unprecedented fifth straight win here. I don't reckon he will do it, but I am not putting anyone up against him. Have found a couple of bets that interest me though: Davis Love III 15/8 to beat Els & Singh - Eurobet. Really do not understand why Love is the outsider of 3 here, he has arguably the best current form of the 3 (although he has not won a tournament yet this year), he has the best course form of the 3. Vijay has had a bit of a break, he didn;t post too many good scores previous to his lay off, and although he plays here every year, he has only posted 1 top ten finish in the last 5 years. Els has won a couple of times this year, but doesn't perform that well here. Fredrik Jacobsen 10/11 to beat Sergio Garcia - UKBetting Jacobsen has had a good start to his career over on the PGA Tour, his performances have steadily improved over the weeks, and his 4th place last week will have boosted his confidence still further. This guy will be Europes Major representative within a couple of years. Garcia continues to frustrate, he is without question one of the most talented players on Tour, but his game seems to be lacking something at present, he doesn't get into contention enough (or win enough) for my liking, and I think him being seen as one of Europes top players is in most part down to what he could achieve as opposed to what he has achieved.

  5. Re: I've bottled it Calc withdrew - should have looked it up from a couple of weeks ago. :banghead Picking the winners against a field of 100+ is difficult, which is why when the bigger tournaments come its worth looking at the matches and groups. The hard thing though is having the time to look through all the bookies and stats as the 'oddcheckers' don't cover them.

  6. Nrl Wk 1 1 result Panthers 14 Knights 20 to play Sat Tigers v Sharks -4 Sat Bulldogs v Eels +4 Sat Cowboys v Sea Eagles +8 Sun Dragons v Raiders +6 Sun Broncos v Warriors +4 Sun Roosters v Rabbitohs +20 All Handicaps from William Hill, are not many major differences across the board. Love to watch the NRL, to see how the game should be played, although don't get the chance very often. Tentative picks for this week are Bulldogs (-4) - the Bulldogs have Leicester-style problems off the pitch, but have put some decent pre-season performances in and should have too much for an Eels side who may continue to disappoint. Sharks (-4) - Sharks have Stuart Raper as their coach, and I really wish him all the best on his step up to thi slevel. He did very in England with Cas and Wigan, and his treatment by Wigan was shoddy. Anyway he has brought in a few players, as opposed to a whole new team in the case of the Tigers, and hopefully they want repeat last year's nightmare start. All you Aussies out there - please rip this to shreds

  7. Thought this thread could cover the PGA and Euro Tours. PGA Tour For me this is a week of keeping the powder dry and just having a bit of an interest bet. Next week begins what should be a great 4 week run - Bay Hill through to The Masters. Honda Classic, this tournament is to be played on a new course, so finding a winner is made difficult. From the limited information I have read, it is seen as a putters course, after a look through this seasons stats I am gonna back Mark Calcavecchia . He has had a steady start to the season, last week's ninth place is encouraging and he is performing with the putter. Davis Love is the predictable fav after his performances earlier this season, and David Toms went some way last week to proving that he is responding from off season surgery

  8. Re: Superleague: Widnes v Huddersfield You might well be right about it being early season, the last couple of weeks have been looking at just the live games, might include the others from now on. Trouble is I struggle for access over the weekend, and injury news etc. usually comes through late. I do have a view, whether it is knowledgeable is open to question!!

  9. Thought I would stick this here (hope its okay). I wondered if there was any one who could give any info regarding who practices with who on a regular basis. Thought this might make a difference when it comes to tournament play, especially to the underdog in a match. My theory is a lower ranked player is gonna feel more comfortable playing against top guy he practices with (and will have beaten at some point you assume) than against some one whom he has played on a limited number of occasions. Anyone agree, or am I talking crap?

  10. Re: Superleague: Widnes v Huddersfield London v St Helens Put this in same thread, wonder if a mod could alter the thread title to Superleague? Superleague meetings where London ‘at home’. 1996 London 28&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp St Helens 32 1997 London 24&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp St Helens&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp 28 1998 London 22&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp St Helens 37 1999 London 18&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp St Helens 34 2000 London 20&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp St Helens 26 2000 London 12&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp St Helens 38 2001 London 18&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp St Helens 20 2002 London 16 St Helens 18 2003 London 18&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp St Helens 30 Only handicaps available at this time, will try and have another look tomorrow for totals quotes. Skybet go St Helens -18, a spread that they have only covered once in 9 of the above matches, and maybe worth a poke Only team news I can find is for London, Andy Hart being ruled out. Hopefully more info available tomorrow.

  11. Re: Australian Grand Prix Am I right in thinking that they have changed the rules regarding Pole Position and that places can be altered in between the end of qualifying and the start of the actual race? If so would check bookmakers rules before placing bets as to what places they settle on, whether it is the positions they start the race, or how they qualified. ;)

  12. Can't wait for this one tonight :unsure Superleague 2nd round and they put a game like this on!! Never mind. Haven't got any stats to play with here, and as its only the teams' third competitive match of the season there isn't much form to go on. In Round 1 Widnes lost to Salford, whilst the Giants beat a disappoints Castleford side. Costin has been ruled out for Huddersfield and I think he is such an influential player for the Giants so the pick is Widnes -2 with Blue Square (a lot of the other books have got them as 6 point favs).

  13. Re: Dubai Gotta be honest, not a big follower of the Euro Golf (in Dubai:lol ) , but I cannot see Tiger winning this week. He did well to win the matchplay, it is a difficult tournament to win as we said last week, but the intimidation factor must be higher head-to-head than in stroke play. I don't think he played that well last week, and what with being knackered from the journey, and playing all that golf last week, I cannot see him going in this week. The only question is do I have the nuts to lay him at 4.3 at Betfair???????????

  14. Bit of a struggle this week. Phil Mickelson has shown that he is getting back to his best, but not prepared to take single figure prices. He doesn't go to Doral too often, and he has never had a top20 finish here. Of the other market leaders nothing really stands out, Perry is up in the betting because of his form last year rather than his form this year, Toms is playing terrible, and just because Parnevik has put a couple of rounds together his price has been dramatically chopped!! Anyway going for Steve Elkington (66/1 generally available). A Previous winner here and although he has had a couple of years where he hasn't done much, he is yet to miss a cut this year, and a return to a winning venue willl hopefully spur him on. Over to 'Yer Man' and 'ROON YIN' :ok
