  1. Fri Bradford -12 v Hull +16 Wakefield +18 v Leeds -16 Sat Salford +10 v Warrington -8 Widnes -8 v Castleford +10 Sun Wigan -16 v London +20 St Helens -12 v Huddersfield +14 Bradford v Hull A brief glance at the table shows Hull sitting fairly comfortably in 5th, with 4 wins from 6 games. But on closer inspection they have only played one other top 6 side in St Helens, and in their last match they went down to Widnes, they have had plenty of time to prepare for this match but will probably fall short of what is required. Bradford will be missing 3 key players, Vaikona is out for the season, Robbie and Vainikolo have gone to Oz to get their arses kicked. Paul has been missing for most of the season, but although Bradford will miss their wingers they will have enough to win by more than the required 12 points Bet: Bradford -12 Wakefield v Leeds Leeds are carrying all before them this season, and deservedly so. They will be minus Sinfield for tonight, but with Wakefield suffering with a few injuries problems will come through with another win. Early thoughts: Salford v Warrington I have been pretty impressed with Warrington this season, semis of the cup and all that. They do have injury problems, but are continuing to put in decent performances, they will have watch the unforced errors though. Salford have seen close up what it takes to succeed in Superleague after slappings from the big boys, this one will be closer, but fancy Warrington to cover the spread. Widnes v Castleford Castleford now look forward to life after Steadman, if they stay up then I suppose the sacking decision will be vindicated, but they face a Widnes team for whom points are precious, and who will wish to record a third win from 4 games. A tentative choice is the Tigers with the start. Will hopefully be able to take a closer look at Saturday’s and Sunday’s matches over the weekend.

  2. Re: shell huston open Can't resist a little go even though I can pick a player to make the cut at the moment. This course looks an absolute monster a 7500+ yards so I am surprised to see Scott Hoch in the field. So am gonna oppose him with Mark Calcavecchia. Calc hasn't been playing too well this season but he likes to give it a rip from time to time, and finished T2 here 12 months ago. 9/10 Ladbrokes

  3. Re: Bookies mistake? The market was 1st 4 frames outright. But even those odds were wrong for that market. Walker was 4/1, but the Tie, rather than Lee was 11/5 Oddschecker are crap for doing this, cos it means that rather than just skimming down their summary page you have to click into to see the bookie breakdown for the actual best prices.

  4. Re: 1st round I am going to have a couple of quid on one of sporting odds specials: Matthew Stevens 10/1 to be top seeded player to be beaten in 1st Round. I know Stevens is a quality player and has a good record here, but I have had a look at his results and he hasn't won a single tournament match in 2004. He is up against James Wattana who has had plenty of Crucible experience. On these grounds I might also have a tickle at the 11/4 for the match result.

  5. Friday Leeds -20 (Tote) v Huddersfield +26 (365) St Helens -18 (Tote) v Salford +22 Sat Castleford+6 v Wakefield Scr Sun London -2 v Widnes +4 Leeds v Huddersfield The Giants don’t have that bad a record at Headingley during their seasons in Superleague, and are having a great season so far. I think Leeds will be far too strong for them, Huddersfield have got six players out, but neither the -20 nor +26 tempts me sufficiently to play. St Helens v Salford After the injury crisis of last week, I would anticipate a few of the St Helens players to have made some form of recovery for the game tonight (full team news not available yet), although I would not expect Ian Millward to field a full strength side tonight. Salford have been struggling, although their whitewash by Leeds is there only real thrashing of the season. Historically St Helens have dominated this fixture, and have covered tonight’s 18pt line with some ease in the last 6 meetings, assuming that the outcome of the later fitness tests are positive in Saints favour then I do not see why they cannot cover the spread again. Castleford v Wakefield I was really tempted to go for Wakefield here, but a few players have not come through the Easter programme. Wakefield have put up some reasonable performances this season, and look good to avoid relegation. Castleford on the other hand are just a disaster, win less so far this season, Graham Steadman has promised to wield the axe on the team, (before it is wielded on him), but confidence must be at an all time low coming into this season their expectations must have been top 6, but after only 6 games they now have a fight on their hands to avoid relegation (unthinkable preseason). London v Widnes Widnes had a really good Easter, victories against Hull FC and Warrington got them off the mark for the season, and they must see this fixture as a real opportunity to make it 3 on the bounce, they don’t have any players out either. London but for conceding the 3 late tries would have been happy to beat Castleford earlier in the week, and they have been making a steady improvement after their slow start to the season. The problem with London this season is that they concede far too many points – they have conceded a mammoth 269 in 7 games so far this season (over 38 per game) far and away the highest of all the teams. On Sunday they face the lowest scorers in the league (Widnes 94 in 6 games), but Widnes do have the tools to punish defences. Gonna go for Widnes +4

  6. After the carnage of last week's match bets where I didn't get any right (3 of them missed the bloody cut), am only going for one this week. Jeff Sluman to beat Brad Faxon Evens @ Skybet Sluman is one of the most consitent performers around Hilton Head. He has made his last 7 cuts here, has finisehd T10 in his last two starts. Making a lot of cuts this year although not threatening the leaders (tailed off badly last weekend) I went for Faxon last week, he was my only player to make the cut. he has a fairly poor record here, he has missed 2 of the last 5 cuts and it has been 7 years since he posted a top 10 finish. Congrats to Phil Mickelson (and those who backed him at fancy prices earlier this season) for breaking his duck, hopefully it will be the first of many, I was cheering that birdie home despite not having a penny on him - Great stuff.

  7. Re: Superleague Round 5 Biggest game of the season so far at Headingley tonight, and having read the reports all the Leeds camp are well up for it, Senior even mentioned the possibility of another ‘nil’. Such comments I am sure are tongue in cheek. Leeds have every right to be confident going into this clash, they are unbeaten in the league this year, having gone down to St Helens in the Challenge Cup, and having been beaten FIVE times last season by Bradford they will want this so much. Bradford have a few first choice players missing (Kohe-Love, Swann & Pratt), but that has been partly balanced by the return of Robbie and Withers. They too are unbeaten in the Superleague, also having been beaten in the cup by St Helens. They did just scrape by against Salford last week when big favourites, but that is the danger of backing teams giving up big starts, they get 2 points whether they win by 7 or 70. Bradford are getting a 4 point start @ 5/6 with ukbetting and that’s where my money will be going tonight. It should be a tight match and I have to go with the team getting the start.

  8. Double dose of Superleague over Easter, but hold back on Mon/Tue games until Fridays games have been played. Thu Hull Fc –14 v Castleford +16 Leeds Scr v Bradford +4 London+6 (betdirect) v Wakefield -2 Fri St Helens -10 v Wigan +12 Warrington –16 v Widnes +20 Huddersfield –12 v Salford +14 Round 6 Bradford v St Helens Widnes v Hull Wigan v Warrington Wakefield v Huddersfield Salford v Leeds Castleford v London As not all of the bookies have got their lines up, will hold fire until tomorrow. The teams that have got massive weekends are: Bradford – play the only other two unbeaten sides, Leeds then St Helens St Helens – derby game against Wigan, then Bradford at Odsal Wigan – 2 derby games, away to St Helens, then Warrington Mike Gregory will be hoping that the Easter bunny is in a good mood, the two derby fixtures have the potential to make him hero or villain. He really is under pressure, despite the fact that they are in the semis of the Challenge Cup and that a list of normally first choice players are returning from injury

  9. Re: US MASTERS, starts thursday The Masters is a unique tournament in terms of the Majors in that it is played at the same course year on year. The course has been lengthened over the last few years so that it now measures a shade under 7300 yds. Much is made that this favours the big-hitters, but the greens are the key to Augusta, both the iron play to get them, and the putts when you’re on them. Rain is forecast for the first day only, so come the weekend the greens are gonna be hard and fast. Experience is a big factor, looking through the results you find that certain players (especially the top 4 in the betting) perform well year on year. This is the basis upon which I have selected my match bets, all of the players listed here are fairly evenly matched on the season so far, but experience at Augusta tips the scales one way (in my opinion). Have had a couple of hours to look through the load of match bets that are available this week, and found 4 that I’m willing to risk my cash on. They are not listed in any order of preference. I include the last six years form and their head-to-head scores this season for reference. Robert Allenby to beat Stuart Appleby 11/10 betfair Allenby 39/29/47/-/-/- Appleby mc/mc/31/mc/mc/mc Appleby leads 2-1 (2 Ties) in tournaments this season The Aussies are making waves on the Tour this year, and Stuart Appleby is having a great season but at Augusta Appleby is a real struggler, having made only 1 cut in his last 6 visits. Allenby on the other hand has made every cut here, and has been pretty consistent this season without reaching Appleby’s heights. Darren Clarke to beat Stuart Appleby 9/10 Victor Chandler Appleby mc/mc/31/mc/mc/mc D Clarke 28/20/24/40/mc/8 9/10 VC Appleby leads 5-2 this season See above for Appleby comments. Clarke has undergone some pretty impressive physical changes over the winter, and such alterations in body shape take some adjusting to. He had some good results earlier in the season but consistency was the problem. He has recently begun to make the cuts. Brad Faxon to beat Shaun Micheel 8/11 betdirect Faxon 23/12/10/-/24/26 Micheel – first appearence Micheel leads 3-0 this season There are plenty of match-ups available that include debutants, but this is the only one that takes my fancy. Micheel has performed okay this season, and has finished above Faxon in every tournament they have teed up in, but Faxon has the experience and is renowned as one of the best putters in the business, Micheel is currently ranked 146th in that category. Mike Weir to beat Retief Goosen 4/5 Betdirect Weir 1/24/27/28/-/- 4/5 betdirect Goosen 13/2/mc/40/-/mc wier leads 3-2 Weir has improved his finish position every year, but he can’t top (and won’t repeat) last year’s victory. Goosen has shown some decent form over the last couple of years, but was nothing special in his previous appearances. Weir is having another excellent season, whilst Goosen is struggling at bit, having missed his last two cuts. Now all I have to do is to work out who is gonna win the thing!!! :\

  10. Re: US MASTERS, starts thursday Hoping to do my research tonight. The four players for whom mr onemore has quoted matches, all have rock solid records round Augusta. Woods and Singh might be the only winners, but both Els and Mickelson both have both finished top ten on many occasions. I am sure there is value somewhere amongst thos ematches, but there will be better (mis)-match-ups elsewhere. Check the bestbetting odds comparison site, for the first times they have a fairly comprehensive list of the match-ups that are on offer this week. The other thing to remember is you are playing on betfair is by laying the player you don't fancy, rather than backing the one you do fancy, you get the tie!! I am sorry if stating the obvious, and that ties are a bigger price than the 14/1 regularly offered by the bookies, but every little helps. This is often the sort of tournament where all sorts of 'specials' are priced up, some are garbage, others are simply mis-priced. Possibly worth checking Bet&Win and Paddy Power out. Please do not be tempted by the 'Winner to shoot 4 rounds in the 60's' special - THIS HAS NEVER BEEN DONE AROUND AUGUSTA

  12. Re: Superleague Round 4 Cas v Saints - didn't get to watch this one last night, but did catch the score at half-time, at 0-12, thought it was money in the bag, never mind. London v Warrington Last season London finished top-6 (fifth) for the first time ever, but they don't look like repeating it this season. To be fair they have the most horrendous injury problems at the moment, but their only league win to date was last weekend against newly promote Salford. In contrast Warrington are flying, they have only suffered one reverse (against Hull) and are in the semis of the Challenge Cup. They did a professional job last weekend in a fixture that had all the potential to be a banana skin. London do have the historical edge in this fixture, leading 6-4 during the Superleague era, but I think Warrington's superior current form will see them cover the 6 point handicap

  13. Fri Bradford -26 (Bet&win) v Salford +32 (BlueSq) Castleford +16 v St Helens -14 Sat Wakefield +10 (Totalbet) v Hull -6 (BlueSq) Sunday London +10 (bet365) v Warrington -6 (Skybet) Widnes +22 (Ladbrokes) v Leeds -16 (Skybet/VC) Huddersfield +8 v Wigan -6 Friday Castleford v St Helens Castleford have been a real disappointment this season, and already there have been calls for Graham Steadman to be replaced, they come into this game really needing a boost, there only win this year has been against UTC, and in there last two league games have been outscored 26 – 66. St Helens on the other hand are flying, unbeaten from the start of the season, they are going to lose at some point, especially if they keep letting teams get a start on them. St Helens have some very important games coming up over the Easter weekend – Wigan on Good Friday, Bradford on Easter Monday. I think St Helens will be too strong and the wounded Tigers will be tamed. Bet: St Helens -14 10/11 generally available

  14. Nothing really stands out this week, and was considering keeping the powder dry, but think I have found a couple of match bets to last a few days: John Huston to beat Duffy Waldorf (Evs - Sportingodds) Going back over the years Huston has a decent record in this tournament, he has missed a cut here in the last six years, and plays his best golf on the Eastern side of the States. Duffy waldorf has been going all out trying to secure a place in The Masters, he still needs a really good finish to get there, but having had the perfect start last week he blew it. His record at Sugarloaf is not that impressive, when he does make the cut he finishes down the field. David Toms to beat Mike Weir (Evs UkBetting) Both of these players missed the cut last week at the Players Championships, it was Weirs first since this tournament last year, and I feel with the defence of his Masters title coming up, his mind may be elsewhere. Toms has finished top 30 in the last 5 years here and has missed the cut once in the last 10 years. Weir has 3 top 20 finishes and 2 missed cuts in his 5 visits. Match-up Record W/L 2/4

  15. This weekend Challenge Cup Fri 20:00 Wigan -12 betdirect v Wakefield +16 Sun 13:10 Whitehaven +22 v Warrington -18 Ladbrokes Sun 15:00 Huddersfield -32 Paddy v York +38 coral Sun 15:00 St Helens -12 v Hull FC +12 Superleague Sun 15:00 London -6 Coral/SpOdds v Salford +10 Skybet Wigan v Wakefield After just squeaking home with Wigan last week, I am gonna continue to put my faith in the Cherry and Whites. Wigan welcome back seasoned campaigners Andy Farrell and Mick Cassidy to the side. Wigan have lost twice this season, but to two of the strongest sides in the league (Leeds and Bradford), and they are always up for the Cup. Wakefield don't have any injury worries, won away last week in Salford and did well to dispose of London, but will be found lacking tonight. The -12 with betdirect is now 8/11 but is a better punt than the -14. Don't know anything about the national league teams so will leave the next two alone. St Helens v Hull FC All of the books on bestbetting have the line set at +12 Hull, so there must be some copying going on!! Saints have an excellent home record against Hull, they have covered that spread in 5/7 meetings, they are flying high this season with some excellent results in both Cup and League. Hull have only lost once this season (to Saints) but have not faced the same standard of opposition. At the moment this is a no bet match for me but something may come up over the next couple of days. London v Salford No bet again here, London beat Salford in the league a few weeks back, but have been very disappointing this season. Salford have just won the one game so far but must see this as a chance to double their points tally. May be some more info later.
