Im new to this and I have read a few posts and find them quite interesting.
Look forward to reading more.
I personally only do one bet and that is the placepot.
I have been lucky enough to have some very big wins with quite small stakes.
I just have a few rules which I keep to and these are : 4 runners or less then include all selections , always click the racecard number and not the Fav box...the horse which you think may end up not being the fav and also if there is a non runner then more units will be on the fav ....and this is when really you dont want the fav to place anyway.
There is no banker in a placepot so minimum of 2 selections per race.
Perm your selections with small stakes and so minimum perm will be 2 selections per race making 64 bets.
Maximum I will perm is 256 bets. This allows me to perm my bet if there is 2 x 4 horse races and 2 selections the other 4 legs.

Tricky race where a few younger horses could quite easily run well upped in distance. Top rated looks a strong bet but skinny odds. Dell Arca looks a touch high on his mark and isn’t getting any younger. I think Vive still has the ability to win off 130 and looks a cracking ew play.

I've gone for rank outsider old boy  Sub Lieutant can't let it go unbacked at 40/1 4places bog with boyles i think thats a crazy price. Interesting Cloudy lane has been well backed. Both not in you guys radar interest 12 runner handicap  can't wait to see what happens!

Fred was top of my own ratings too ......I'm going to do less races but when I do rate I'll use the value ratings and my own side by side .....that way I can see who should win out the top 5 rated .....I think it will help a lot in narrowing down ....its a lot of work but will be worth it in the big races for certain 

Value bet and top rated  fred wins ....Glenn coco was close up 3rd or 4th ....good race 

Jumps fare better with horses with 11lbs.or more to average weight of the race being minus 6.5% roi and rest looking fairly equal. Probably because the horse is more developed, can be older and can take more weight than flat type horses or younger horses.

Done this through looking at the last 9 years on handicap flat only and heavier horses are between minus 10% and minus 20% roi for prices evens  up to 25-1 on heavy and soft ground, with horses 1 pound or less to the average weight or lower being profitable. So best give the horse a minus 15% on average  if it's heavy on Weight on these conditions looking at historical records. I'll check jumps next.

Top rated 3rd, 4th rated 2nd. Muddling race. Tommy Rock drifted to big value, but who would have bet on it with a drift like that?

I agree. I tend to use my ratings in conjunction with other factors. I.E if a tipster I follow tips a horse I rate the race to see how the selection looks, then maybe I'll increase or decrease my bet. I also check the top 3 rated using my old selection criteria and see if they 'stack up'. If they do then it's a bet!

Ive already got trends for all races at chelt and I use them now for big races ....once I've got my top 5 or 6 rated ...running trends can instantly narrow to 2 in a flash....I.e in some races 9 yr olds plus have never won ....in other races like you say horses over 11st 4lbs have never won ...some people dont agree but if you need help narrowing your final selections it's a fantastic tool especially at Cheltenham
