  1. Re: small blind

There's an important difference. Heads up, the SB is last to act every round after the flop. But here he isn't. That's a big difference.
Nicely pointed out, that one slipped right by me. I do however like being OOP when i call planning to trap a player. He only gets to see weakness (call - check) before its his turn to act. :nana:nana:nana
  2. Re: Crouchie's Question Thread Played it just fine mate, bet out when you had the best of it, twice! Opponent misses his gutshot (what a player eh?) but catches an open ender on the turn. No value in betting the river and you check. Keep doing that at this level and the pots will gradually start to be pushed in your direction. I hate micro limits :wall

  3. Re: Kxo BB

I just find that at the low limits, if you put (for arguments sake) a 1/2 pot raise in then from early position, you get one of 2 things happen A.The next player calls, a which means everyone else now has better odds to call, and you maybe thin the field by 1 or B.The better players see it as weakness (which to a degree it is) and bang a big raise over the top anyway
Ahh understood, just saw it was in micro-limits, should pay more attention to these things. Fully agree in this case then :ok
Maybe at larger stakes it would be different - (I'll revisist the thread in 5 years when I get there !!):ok
Why not have someone sticky it for you? That way it'll always be on your to-do list :lol
  4. Re: Kxo BB

With top Pair (and it being a King) - and as everyone had limped Preflop, I would put in a Pot Sized bet. Happy to take it down there and then , if someone raises then I'll probably fold -dependent on the player. But if I get a caller then I'll take the free card also - and reassess the situation after the turn.
Should you not put in a 1/3 - 2/3 pot bet instead in this situation to minimise losses on your side if the other player raises? Since the likelihood is you're going to fold if this is the case. Remember unless the SB is the only one who calls you, you're out of position (in the BB) and the free card is of the opponent's option.
  5. Re: small blind

[NOTE TO SELF: call-raise bluff GaF next time it's folded to you in the SB and he's in the BB] :D
Shhhhhhhhh! We can trap him a lot easier if he doesn't know our intentions :ok
  6. Re: Pop Quiz part XVII - Call or Fold Apologies for the 3 posts in a row, but something here too...

LOL - not sure if there is a right or wrong answer am interested to see if there is a 'perfect' strategy in these situations (which I seem to be getting into far too often!) cheers Damo
You're playing a turbo SnG, which does swing luck as more of a factor than skill. There may not be a perfect strategy for playing these tournaments. With 1 minute blinds, you're letting a lot down to the poker gods...
  7. Re: Pop Quiz part XVII - Call or Fold Just a little something more here;

    Seat 1: LizziePL (740.00) SB Seat 3: monowerde (1170.00) BB Seat 4: luca2000 (4510.00) Seat 5: Gigi 1 (1080.00)
    *** Bet Round 1 *** luca2000 Raise to 1200.00 Gigi 1 All-in 1080.00
He raises to 1,200 (minraise i know) which in effect is the same as going all in, i have a sneaky feeling this guy has a monster and wants the call. He has basically said "Right lads, all in, who wants to play?". The raise covers everyone else at the table. I will at least put him on a mid-strong Ace, strong King or any pair. I think luca feels he's at least on the 5x% side of a cointoss and he can take the chance here with very little risk on his side.
  8. Re: Pop Quiz part XVII - Call or Fold I think you fold here and hope luca knocks the guy out. You will be then left on the bubble with 440 chips and the SB will hit monro and he will be down to 270 with action on him he might make the call & it's a race. With K9 and the Raise-Call(All in), I expect to be dominated here, one of them could very easily have AK/KQ/KJ/KT let alone a pair or 2. In my opinion you take a chance & fold, Monro may very easily call the 570 more all-in and it's 3 way with a good chance of 2 players being knocked out. The BB is affecting Monro more than you, i feel you have to let it go & ride your luck. You can always push on the next hand if the desired results don't happen and be at least Heads Up in a 1,240 pot which (if you win) will see you pass at least another circuit if you continue your tight play. I dont see value in the call here...

  9. Re: STT - Bubble time with less than one BB - general strategy Instant call - no matter what your cards 9-10 is a perfectly decent hand to call with, you aint gonna do anything with 1/3BB left. I cant believe Kugli hasnt called though. In this situation, with any average hand, if i have more than 5BB i will call and check it down with the BB as you have to play this hand or you're effectively out. Poker is a team effort :lol But anyway you have to call, there's no other option here.

  10. Re: small blind

probably an obvious answer but is it always correct to not fold from small blind pre flop when everyone has folded to you?
No no not at all! A lot of players will fold the SB if they feel their hand isn't worth a look at the flop. ie If it folds around to me & i have 8-3 or any other rags in the small blind i can happily throw them away. The main reasoning behind calling the SB being "right" is the fact that you are getting 3/1 pot odds to have a look at the flop (about 6/1 when we start using antes). So if your hand is bigger than a 25% underdog vs. a random hand, you're getting pot odds to call. The type of player in the BB is a factor too however. If he's been a loose maniac betting/raising everything you dont want to be calling the SB too often without premium cards, you'll want to be patient and wait for a hand to trap him with. However if the player has been tight throughout the game you might want to raise it up and nick some blinds :D Another thing to consider is the cost of the SB in relation to your stack. If you have less than 20xBB left then you cant really afford to continue calling with rags everytime, whereas if you had >100xBB you can happily take a gamble, call & hope to hit a flop. You may also consider the time left in the current blind level. If the blinds are high in relation to your stack & the blind level is going up soon then you may want to consider tightening up more. Otherwise you'll end up putting in this SB + the BB/SB at a higher rate soon which may cripple your stack.
  11. Re: **Poker Sunday 15th April** Ahhhh that Poker Utd is wrecking my head. Installed, registered & verified, able to login on the site but every single time i try to login on the software it says my details are incorrect. I thought it might be my slippy fingers first but im convinced after about 30 attempts that it's not my fault :wall

  12. Re: Sunglasses?

where does this stop? excuse the random wandering into the poker section with little (you may say 'no-') knowledge but... can you wear masks for example? or are there rules stating that glasses are ok? how much of your face can you 'hide'? if you went onto a table wearing a Scream mask and sunglasses, would this actually be allowed? (probably a daft question, but i'm not from round these parts y'see!)
It doesn't mate! Let me show you something from last year's WSOP... gavinjoespidey.jpg This is "Joe Sebok" dressed as spiderman at the World Series, he was allowed to play. I remember seeing this and just finding it on google, im pretty sure there was another costume too, anyone? Anyway that pretty much sums it up, you can hide as much of your face as you want.
  13. Re: Sunglasses?

Does the use of sunglasses at a poker table actually make a diference? I'm not one for looking out for "tells" at a table as I get caught up thinking about too much before I decide what i'm doing. My cards, position, odds etc. is enough as it is!
In my opinion it does to some players, i dont want to see every sod in a casino wearing glasses, would kill poker really. But in my above post i made reference to Chris Ferguson, i've been a big fan of his for the last 3-4 years and i think the glasses do make a difference. He just doesn't flinch, i remember seeing a clip of him calling/bluffing/raising and each time his movements were the exact same, have done a quick search but can't find it on the net. I'm a big fan of his though and think he is a fantastic player.
I know what you mean about people sniggering. I was at Westcliffe casino in Southend a few weeks ago with a couple of mates for a MTT freezeout. a guy got on our tables with a hoody and sunglasses on. One of my more "gobby" mates said to him - "Sunglasses eh?" - Guy nods - "Can you take them off please or I wont know what cards you've got" - "shut up you sarcy c**t" :unsure Southend eh? :lol
:rollin:rollin:rollin Great sense of humour in Southend eh? :lol
  14. Ok I know a few people might think I might start talking about the pros/cons of wearing sunglasses, but taking a little different approach here. Well my brother just got back from Spain, & I did get a lovely pair of sunglasses out of it from the duty free, which did get me thinkin about how (no need for insults lads) strong* a poker image i had while looking in the mirror. Now I didn't think i'd go into the local casino with them on, would merely catch a few giggles at me at best in there, but did notice something in the mirror (apart from the gorgeous fella looking back at me of course ;)) There is a glare off the sunglasses, whereas I could see everything in the mirror quite vivid. Which reminded me of the last pair of sunglasses I had, on a trip to Dublin with a buddy, where he kept seeing which card I had next in Top Trumps and played his stat accordingly. So brings me to a little devious question, any lot of you devils use this to your advantage? If so, how and why? Or is the 'why' obvious? Just thinking and I know from watching the WSOP that a lot of players wear sunglasses there. Is it something to use to your advantage? Or do you feel it is bad etiquette to keep an eye open? Do you feel it's the player's fault in the first place? Have fun lads :lol:ok *By Strong i mean how still and lifeless players like Chris Ferguson look while playing. Quite like a predator stalkin' it's prey until it strikes!

  15. Re: Grand National Discussion Thread

i saw another stat yesterday which said only 1 horse in 158 runnings had won with 10st 2lb thats 159 now after Joes Edge & le Duc failed today. Silver birch fitted most of the trends apart from the price factor as it was one of the outsiders.
I dont think you can rule out just a specific weight, especially since the weight's lower and higher are more than capable of winning the race. The weight is within the system whereby it can produce a winner, so i dont think it can be applied for next year's Grand National. Merely a coincidence rather than a solid stat that you can use as a method on your system. IMO of course, but i dont see how a lb difference either way can hold such a strong outcome on the race when it's well under the 11st mark.
  16. Re: Anywhere To Play One On One Heads Up Poker For Real Cash?
