  1. Re: April 23 - April 29

Giraldo to beat the try hard R, Haase @ 4/5 with Blue Square Robin Haase tries so hard bless him, his effort was rewarded last tournament where he relied on a retirement from Monaco and a hangover from Belluci (In beating Ferrer) to reach the quarter finals. He's essentially a hustler, a poor one at that really, but takes advantage of bigger players showing poor form. His strength is his serve, but that's about as far as it goes, his groundies are mediocre and I can't see how Giraldo an experienced clay court player can trip over here. He proved he could deal with a big serve on this surface by knocking out Istomin in his opening round match and I expect this to go pretty much the same wy. 8/10 in the confidence stakes
    :D Oh bloody yeah! :D
  2. Re: April 23 - April 29

Montanes to beat Tomic @ Evens with 10bet Quite simple really, Tomic is a clay-court rookie and beating Istomin and Gulbis on the surface hasn't changed that. Montanes the clay court veteren has shown glimpses of his old self and I expect a good lesson to be taught here from the teacher to a pupil. 7.5/10 in the confidence stakes
Saved a few match points but came through in the end :D I'm sure Tomic was at his ultimate pushing best!
  3. Re: April 23 - April 29 Feliciano Lopez to beat Flavio Cipolla 2-0 @ 13/10 with Boylesport Feliciano has arrived, center stage, Barcelona Open a 500 event @ home and he will be giving 100% Cipolla is a pusher and is only even in the second round because he ran into an exhausted Lorenzi. The moment Cipolla defends of the slice backhand and by looping balls back into play from hard groundstrokes, Felly will close the net and put away the volley, Feliciano is one of the best volleyiers in the men's game and I can't see how Cipolla is passing him when he approaches the net. Cipolla has the weakest serve I have ever seen in men's tennis, it would look out of place on the WTA tour, infact I have a bigger serve. lol This will be a comprehensive win for Feliciano, probably won't even need his regulatory tie break granted how utterly shite Cipolla's serve is. LOL two second serves, literally..... 8/10 in the confidence stakes

  5. Re: April 23 - April 29 Bachinger to beat the lazy, disrespectful to the game Troicki @ 15/8 with Paddy Power I watched Bach against Volandri last match and suprisingly it wasn't entirely down to Volandri "losing it" as many people may want to think. This guy is mentally a midget, BUT yesterday I saw a player who had overcome his usual mental fragility. The talents always been there with Bachinger, jus not the resolve and coolness under pressure. He has a huuuuge serve, one which will buy him a lot of games against Victor who'll probably dump returns from them into the net or smash them long. I see lots of unforced errors from Victor tomorrow and a lot of winners from Bach, he's in that kinda mood. :) 6/10 in the confidence stakes

  7. Re: April 23 - April 29 Nieminen to beat Schwank 2-0 @ 5/6 with Ladbrokes Fact of the matter is there is a huge gulf in class between these two players and when Nieminen is on, he really is on and can make big players look pedestrian. I studied his match last round against Marti and Nieminen was in the zone, the complete zone and for a large majority of it Marti was asking Jarko questions and he just kept nailing the answers consistently. Schwank has had a diabolical season, he initially lost out in the qualifier to Del Bonis and then got in the first round as a lucky loser after sex on legs (Stepanek) retired. He beat Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo in 3 sets last round, but that was largely down to the fact Ruben came into the match absolutely exhausted from reaching the final two challenger tournaments in a row. Not to mention he knew Ruben's game rather well as they play as doubles partners sometimes. Even on his game Schwank would most probably still lose out in two sets, perhaps a slightly tight two sets, but he'd lose out, surface would prove irrelevant. However, Schwank is not on his game and this is clay, a surface which I feel really suits Jarko. Jarko's a hustler, but not only a hustler but an attacking player with fieresome groundstrokes and a relatively hardcore serve ... when he is firing this combination really takes center stage and for me is virtually unplayable to outside the top 8 players in the World. I can only see one inevitable result, break in each set, possibly more for Niems and a convincing win. 9.5/10 in the confidence stakes

Cipolla - Lorenzi Small pick here. Line looks good as alternative for the over. I don't see Lorenzi here as underdog. He playing well the last weeks on clay, with a final last week in Sarasota (USA). Beaten there Blake in straight sets and loss the final in 3 sets against Querrey. But their is the problem for this Lorenzi. A lot off matches the last week and he was travelled from the USA to Barcelona with not enough rest. Cipolla his last results are good. Beaten Dolgopolov in Casablanca, who was very poor and losing the semi-final against Andujar. But here is a very good factor for him, he had a lot of time more rest than his opponent. 1/10 Lorenzi +3.5 games @ 1.90 Pinnacle
Then why are you taking Lorenzi not to lose by 4 games? lol
  9. Re: April 23 - April 29 Screw it Safarova to beat Li Na @ 17/10 with Panbet Believe me Safarova on clay this season is a force and Li Na isn't the same player she was on clay when she won the French last year, these odds are dictated by the fact she won the French only a year back. 6.5/10 in the confidence stakes

  10. Re: World Championship - April 21st - May 7th

Cheers Staffy :ok. +7.22 for me overall now after Doherty couldn't get to six frames. Bingham got what was needed though to lessen the damage and Jones' 134 is a fair target to see how that stands up behind Hendry's 147. One for me on Monday morning. 5pts M.Stevens to beat M.Fu 4/5 Paddy Power Matthew Stevens is a player who historically has enjoyed the longer matches. His record in the three longer match tournaments - the Masters, UK and this tournament, is very good and given that he's played well throughout the majority of the season but run into some insanely good performances from opponents and lacked the run of the ball which is so important over a shorter match, I think he'll relish the longer matches again in this tournament. Stevens is playing good snooker. He's shown that in the Shanghai Masters and the German Masters when he went to the quarter finals and although he's lost in the first round of his last three tournaments, he lost a deciding frame to Perry in the World Open, lost 4-0 to Walden who had two tons and two 80's against him in the PTC Finals and lost to Ebdon in the China Open and Ebdon went on to win the tournament. If Marco Fu pulls out a performance like that in this match then fair play to him but there's been no evidence that it is coming any time soon. Of course Fu is a very capable player and it will be interesting to see if Mark Allen's comments about him have given him something to prove but based on what he has shown so far this season I have to favour Stevens in this match. Even Fu's qualifying form can't be taken too strongly as I think Joe Jogia was just about the ideal draw in the final qualifying round. Barring running into another spectacular performance I think Stevens is playing well enough to take care of Fu in this first round match.

  11. Re: April 23 - April 29 I don;'t like the Raonic bet personally, Montanes is on another level to Falla, but I can see why your fancying it. Vinci to win atleast a set is 4/6 with Paddy Power... I'm more drawn to betting in play on that one. Kerber isn't great on clay and Vinci loves the red turf, never-the-less, Kerber gets every ball back and is mentally a lot more tough ... she's so clutch .. still would have to fancy her but the game and set handicaps look relatively tasty.

  12. Re: April 23 - April 29

Hmmm, not sure about Kukushkin. Didn't beat much in Monte Carlo. Mayer's a bampot and not playing well and the Volandri match could have gone either way really. Wouldn't say that's great form. Don't think clay is his best surface and was out for almost two months with injury, so a few negatives. However, DGT is awful right now. But, back in Spain, he might be galvanised. Saw him in the flesh at Wimbledon last year against Murray and for a set-and-a-half he showed he's got loads of talent. It's the mental side of things that lets him down - and when his confidence is low, like it is now, he gets terribly jittery. Believe he was 6-2 5-2 up on wee Mikey Russell in Houston yet still lost in a 250 event. Not good. And he's actually one of these Spaniards who plays better on a hard court ... I reckon Kukushkin will win but I'm not happy with the 1.50 on offer, nor would I want a handicap on him either. At present, it's a no bet, and I can't see that changing.
I could not agree more with every word, its crazy how we have sort of encountered such similar thoughts on this match Atko, the main reason I ask is because I have doubled it with Ruben ... on a huge stake ... and it really would be a true and massive heart breaker if he suddenly hits into gear merely as he's on home turf and I lose coz of a 1/2
  13. Re: April 16 - April 22

Paolo Lorenzi to spank the utter joke that is James Blake @ 2.20 with William Hill You have got to be SHITTING ME RIGHT? Lorenzi is an absolute hustler on clay, Blake's odds are simply dictated by his past and even in the past I would have given Paolo the edge against James on clay. Right, I see Lorenzi as a shoe-in .. he'll hustle and harry and get everything James fires at him back ... move James about and James movement won't cope, especially not on clay, the dude can barely slide on this surface, lets be bloody real now! Easy, easy, easy.... AZAYYYYYYY MANAAAAAYYYYYY HAAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA YEAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! 8/10 in the confidence stakes.
Clap clap. Still confidence stakes ? I am waiting for your Lorenzi pick as well, will be watching how it goes to hell and back. :)

  14. Re: April 23 - April 29

I can see your logic in the Hidalgo match, as the Spaniard has been playing some good tennis recently in the Challengers (some nice pieces of form, beating Giraldo in Colombia) but Gil is a bad match-up for an out-of-form Granollers (H2H is 3-1 Gil and he beat him in Australia last year). Gil was injured though against Simon so taking him with a one-ball bookie could be the answer. Re: Lorenzi - he'll probably play on Tuesday but he's got to get from Sarasota (Florida) to Barcelona, overcome jet-lag and adapt to red clay after being on the green stuff. The guys who came over to Monte Carlo from the States last week didn't do very well. Cipolla's probably at the peak of his powers right now. I'm not sure I'd want to back Lorenzi but the price is a good enough reward for you if the bravery pays off. Good luck :ok
Thanks man, I've got actually somewhat big on Ruben ... I can't see how he is going to lose to Stepanek on this surface WITH the home crowd behind him and being well rested. What do you make of Kukushkin being priced @ 1/2 to beat Gimeno Traver? Traver's been diabolical recently, surely those odds are only as generous due to the fact he's at home..... right? How supportive are the crowd in Barca... on the outside courts? ...and yes, the other two are no guarantees, small stakes on each of them....
  15. Re: April 23 - April 29 Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo to beat Radek Stepanek @ 23/10 with BetVictor Alright, so Ruben Ramirez, a massive clay court hustler, this guy is a one trick pony, he only does well on clay, but hey, guess bloody what? This is CLAY! AND He has a wildcard into a HOME TOURNAMENT. This guy has beaten Marin Cilic @ the French Open in straight sets and I expect this to be another big name scalp he'll be adding to his list. Stepanek is a tricky player but rather inconsistent, too inconsistent for clay, he almost beat Tipsarevic in the Davis Cup and probably should have but was playing with a lot of heart, passion and absolute desire to win on that day. Ruben has had an amazing run on clay and beat Lorenzi in a challenger final around 3 weeks back now, I watched most of the matches in that challenger and the quality of tennis was ridiculously good, definetely at an ATP 250 standard and you could possibly say even at an ATP 500 standard. This is an ATP 500 event and Stepanek for me isn't to that standard on clay, especially not at this time in his career. 9/10 in the confidence stakes. PS: Odds will DROP QUICK, SO BE QUICK. TennisInsight.com - MATCH PREVIEW - Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo v Radek Stepanek Marcel Granollers to beat Federico Gil @ 4/6 with YouWin Granollers is a hustler on clay, but he only really brings these hustling qualities to the table when he is inspired and motivated. Historically speaking, he does well at home events, last year he won the Valencia open on hard court beating Monfils, Del Potro and Monaco to lift the title. Despite being in relatively bad form, he'll be at home again tomorrow and I expect him to be inspired enough to come through. 7/10 in the confidence stakes Lorenzi to beat his Italian Countryman Cipolla @ 6/4 with Paddy Power or Blue Square Lorenzi is too much of a clay court warrior to lose to this pusher on Clay and I can't see any other result. Granted Lorenzi will be tired after his final with Querrey tonight, he'll have a day off to recover and still for me manage to overcome Cipolla. TennisInsight.com - MATCH PREVIEW - Paolo Lorenzi v Flavio Cipolla 3-1 in the head to heads. 8/10 in the confidence stakes

  16. Re: April 16 - April 22

ooft, I certainly hope so... then I get my hopeless bet back. I went for a straight win together in a parley. Did you know he wasn't 100%? If yes, that maybe should have factored in the decision whether to take the bet or not.
No I didn't, then again, all I had to base this on was his last two matches which he seemed to come through with relative ease.
