  1. Re: Exit Hands and blinding out Thanks very much everyone. I've had a look at the push/fold graphs which are quite an eye-opener. I guess from what Haichan and Bart are saying that what I really need to be concentrating on is profiling the other players and identifying those who are shoving light. Not so easy when you generally never get to see their hands, lol. Trouble is determining which end of the push/fold range the particular hand is. I suppose if it was easy it wouldn't be so much fun! Anyone else have a view?

  2. kvpn.jpg Uploaded with ImageShack.us The above is my exit hand from last night's ipoker $10 $5K guarantee. I finished 51st for just over $20, somewhere around 630 runners I think. First prize was over $1K. What I want to discuss is how and when you decide to get your money in in these situations. In this tournament there was a very flat payout structure until near the FT (pretty normal). 81 places paid and it wasn't until you got to 25 that the payout reached $50. My philosophy in this sort of position where I am fairly short stacked (M was 5.5) and a long way from serious money is to try to pick good spots to steal. I hadn't played a hand for two rounds of the button and the SB's flat call looked like suited connectors or a small Ace, both of which I felt he would fold to a shove from a tight player. He didn't in this case, but I'm not gonna cry too much. Does anyone think I should have checked preflop and then shoved instead? I noticed that BurnleyJoe was out not long after me, presumably doing something similar. At the same time I have seen players on here playing down to a couple of big blinds in tourneys and dodging bullets for ages. To my mind you may ladder up a bit by doing this but you have very little chance of making a big score, but I'd be interested in hearing views. Would anyone like to share their thoughts on the strategies they adopt?

Single hand at these levels can change everything mate, keep going. Apols in advance if I suck out on either you or oobs. Kinda stuck in a tricky spot inbetween you.
Shouldn't worry about that - bloody software is going to do for me. Folded my KK when koles shoved on my BB just before break.
  4. Re: PL Poker Champs 2013 - Sat Sep 28th - Sponsored by Grosvenor Poker (£1800 Added)! Hotel booked and looking forward to my first proper live tourney. Only holdem as if I play the Omaha my wife will have bought half of Birmingham by the time I get back. Eldest son, fishfood, is at Birmingham Uni and would like to play if he is free of other commitments that evening. Would that be Ok? (he'll know as soon as term starts).

  5. Re: Strategy For Rebuy MTTs Hi Guys, My apologies for reactivating a very old thread but Rebuys are not something I know a lot about and I was wondering what the current thinking is. In particular I would be interested in how you all regard the extended signup periods rebuy tournaments now have. Does anyone have a strategy for this? It occurs to me that if you buy in just before the end of the rebuy period and then take the addon instead of a second rebuy (or as well as?) then that may be +EV? Or do you miss out on LAG play earlier on? Or is it better to join around level 4 and just treat it as a normal MTT with the added value of a lot of rebuys already in and players already out? (I'm talking $3 - $5 here).

  6. Re: Tens Really don't know what I was thinking. Normally I'd shove. The post flop looks even worse tbh. I think I was kinda thinking "you're just in the money, don't do anything rash" which is unlike me and totally stupid. It just always gets really loose after the bubble and for some reason I thought his minraise was strange. Overthinking. :wall I staggered on and finished 9th A9

  7. I've just played this hand. $3 MTT, The bubble has just burst. I'm 18/25. I have just joined the table so have no read on anyone. 8. Re: Handling the Slow Times Very interesting question, Joe. Like you I sometimes don't play for months on end. I was playing mainly SNGs but it is such a grind and difficult to make much headway I find. I have gone back tolow level MTTs (up to $5) but as you say the early levels are tedious particularly with the extended buyins every tournament now has. I tend to go on youtube or read but in order not to miss out on player styles I have just started to use tracking software (Tournament Indicator in my case as it was free) and I have to say that so far I have found it to be incredibly useful and have had a couple of top three cashes and 5/6 lower cashes from around 25 MTTs in 3 weeks. Doesn't stop suckouts but it does help avoid those silly plays when you have lost concentration or got bored. Having said that I must resubscribe to Its your turn chess.

  10. Re: T.G.I.F and time for a late night , where you all playing 26th April ? Haven't played much the past few weeks as we have been very very busy at work. The one night I did play, however I managed to win a sat to iPOPS #6 30K deepstack tonight. I hadn't looked at the structure - 10K starting stack with 10 minute blinds. Not really my scene but hopefully it will be a long night!
