  1. Re: 2011 Boxing Thread

Tomorrow. This is the best bet I have seen for ages. Sam Sexton to beat Hastings Rasani by stoppage 4/7. boylesports. This really doesnt need explaining at all, nice easy one for Sam to get back into it agasint the Zimbabwe number 3 :unsure. Rasani has lost his last 10 odd fights, been knocked out by Danny McIntosh at cruiserweight in the 3rd and was stopped in his 1st round last time. Even Kenny Anderson stopped him at light-heavyweight, no idea what he is doing in the ring here. Steps in with Sam now for a 6 rounder, I'd have taken 4/7 had this been 3 rounder let alone 6.
That's an outrageous price. I'll be surprised if Rasani sees the end of the 1st.
  2. Re: 2011 Boxing Thread I take it it's too late to put my stake in?:lol Never mind. The Holt win and articles that had popped up here and there proclaiming him to be a live dog had clouded peoples judgement regarding Mabuza. He's not in Judah's league. This result has buggered things right up at LWW. I think the Khan/Bradley unification now won't happen and Khan will fight Judah. Bradley will probably move up to 147 again seeing as there's nothing left for him at 140.

  3. Re: 2011 Boxing Thread One bet for me tonight: Judah to stop Mabuza. I haven't seen anything of Mabuza, but I've seen plenty of Zab and going by Mabuza's record he's going to be completely outclassed. At 33 this is really Judah's last chance at breaking right back into the mix at 140 and spoiling the Bradley/Khan party. I think he's going to win and aim to look good whilst doing it. Judah to beat mabuza by KO/TKO etc. @3.75 (bet365) I'm really tempted to have a tickle at Alvarez to beat Hatton in the first half, but I can't make my mind up

  4. Re: 2011 Boxing Thread I think you've been a bit harsh on Bradley there Foo. The win against Bradley was a superb performance, back when Witter was still somebody. Witter was coming off a brutal KO of Vivian Harris and was heavily favoured going into the fight. His most recent fights were near perfect shutouts against Abregu and Peterson, who was also highly regarded as a prospect going into the fight. He trains like a machine, has a spot on attitude and is an incredibly smart fighter, I've stuck my neck on the line before and said that I think he's the Floyd Mayweather of the next decade. His ring IQ is up there, and he improves with each fight. Alexander is decent enough, but IMHO just not good enough to beat Bradley. I think the fight against Kotelnik was telling, Kotelnik is as one dimensional as they come and Alexander struggled to adapt to take a decision most (including me) felt he should have dropped. I think this is a fairly comfortable victory for Bradley, which should set up a massive, massive unification with Khan. I've got 10 pts, Bradley @ 1.53 (paddypower)

  5. Re: 2011 Boxing Thread

Thierry Karl @ 4/6 Boylesports 8 points Thierry Karl by KO/TKO/DQ @ 5/4 Skybet 4 points This should be a fun fight while it lasts. Karl can bang, as can McIntosh. Neither fighter is known for their defensive capabilities and will go for it. I've considered McIntosh for this fight because I think he has the power to chin-check Karl, but with hometown advantage and numerous other intangibles in his favour, Karl should win this fight. French judging is as bad as British judging, so there will be no favours for McIntosh on the cards.
I agree with this, I'm just getting on Karl to win though. Going back to basics for a week or two boxing betting wise so I'm not going to try to be too clever with my picks. Thierry Karl to win, 10 pts, 1.66, Boylesports
  6. Re: 2010 Boxing Thread

Gentleman Glen next up (two fights with Calzaghe mysteriously fell through at this end back in the day) in Nottingham, and another top, top night is in store.
I hope it's in Nottingham, Carl deserves it and it's logical. Rumours are though that the contracts say both semis are to be held in the US. If it is in the UK it's likely to be another 2am start, and I don't fancy another one of them after the Dirrel fight.
  7. Re: 2010 Boxing Thread

Pacman is a freak of nature OR still on the juice. Defies description. Fck Margarito.
Pac was phenomenal last night, I'm beginning to change my mind that Mayweather could beat him. I just don't see how you counteract his movement, power and accuracy. Juice or not he's an absolute force of nature. A less than once in a generation fighter.
Karass gets jobbed on the cards apparently, by a possible future Kel Brook opponent in Mike Jones. For some reason Jones is ranked top 5 by all the major bodies, so he'll have a choice of paths to take. No way he comes to Blighty to face Brook, when home court is so important...as proved last night. Brook is only ranked by the WBO, but Jones across the pond is a winnable fight, and would propel him into the US mainstream, as well as earn him the title.
Karass was unlucky. He clearly lost the first two and last two. He clearly won the ones in between. So I had it 6-4. A draw would have been fair, but 7-3 to Jones as one judge scored it is one of those scores that makes you realise how fcuked up boxing can be occasionally.
  8. Re: 2010 Boxing Thread

Would'nt class him as a coward, as a poster above did, because any fighter that is prepared to step between the ropes not long after a family tradgedy, as Harrison did a few years back, deserves a bit of repect.
If you're talking about me saying he's going to shit himself and cover up, don't get me wrong - he's taking his shot and that takes some balls. But lets face it, he doesn't have the heart of a fighter. If he did he'd be a different proposition entirely. Anyways, Groves V Anderson at 8. Good luck with the bets everyone and here's to a good night of action:ok
  9. Re: 2010 Boxing Thread Been pondering the Haye/Harrison fight for a good while now and I've changed my opinion. Harrison hasn't even got a punchers chance. In the same way that Enzo Mac didn't have a punchers chance, despite having a rep for being heavy handed. Sky have done a good job of hyping Harrison to the point where most have forgotten just how bad he actually is. So how will this fight go? Well I expect Audley to be up for it for about 10 seconds, before the enormity of his predicament dawns on him. Then I fully expect him to do what he has always done: shit himself and cover up. This will be all the invitation Haye needs and I think he'll finish it early, very early. My head is saying round 1 or 2, but I'm going to cover the first 4 to be on the safe side. Coral have the 1st four rounds each priced up at 10s, which is enough to make me dust off my dormant account with them. Staking is: 7 pts rd 1 10 pts rd 2 7 pts rd 3 5 pts rd 4 all at 10s. Total stake = 29 pts min return = 50 pts The Rigondeaux fight is an interesting one. Cordoba is obviously well seasoned, but he's never consitently mixed in genuine world class company, especially when you compare him to the likes of Molitor or Caballero. Of course that has to be balanced against the fact that whilst undoubtedly a talent, Rigondeaux still hasn't mixed in any company at all. I think the obvious call here is Rig late on or by decision, which is where my money is going down on this one, only small stakes though. 2 pts Rigondeaux 10-12 @ 8.0 1 pt Rigondeaux by decision @ 2.62 both bet 365. I've got a few thoughts on the Groves and Pac fights, but they're going to have to wait.

  10. Re: 2010 Boxing Thread

Looking forward to tonight, first time I'm going to watch Bradley, PaulM was raving about him last time we spoke....like said above, he has to send a message out tonight as well.
Haven't seen the fight, just downloading it now. An almost complete shutout from what I hear? I say this in all seriousness: Bradley has got the all round game to do well in a fight with Pac. Probably wouldn't win, but he'd give him more of a run for his money than ODLH, Hatton, Cotto or Clottey have. I was sad to read a piece by Bob Arum claiming that a fight with pac would never be made because of promotional issues (basically saying he didn't want to give Bradley a payday). I don't know why Top rank and golden boy don't just start their own championships and have done with it.
  11. Re: 2010 Boxing Thread Couple of bets for me tonight. Froch V Kessler First off Froch V Kessler. Can't describe how looking forward to this I am. After seeing froch last time out against Dirrell was convinced that Kessler was going to take him to the cleaners, but a lot's happened since then. First off Ward handed Kessler's arse to him on a platter, the Dirrel did the same to Abraham. Those results swing tonight into Carl's favour for me. The thing with Froch is it's all about the range. As long as you can keep him on the outside he struggles to land as he tends to telegraph his big right hand. This is why he struggled with Dirrell, and struggled with Taylor early on. But as soon as you let him get that half a pace closer his timing just seems to click and he lands big shots regularly. Based on his recent performaces I just can't see kessler having the stamina to keep Froch out of the range he likes, and I can see him becoming a sitting duck from about round 8 onwards, With Froch forcing a stoppage in 10-12. The alternative (and IMO best) strategy for kessler to adopt would be to get inside and smother Froch's work. But I just don't see it happening. Bet: 5 pts Froch rds 7-12 @ 4.33 (sportingbet) Arreola V Adamek Staying up for this one, I think it's going to be a good fight. I don't rate Adamek at all at heavy. He hans't carried his mobility from cruiser and he hasn't built on his power. As a result he's a fairly light hitting, stationary heavy. Which can only spell trouble. There was evidence of this against Estrada where he shipped a lot of punches late on. Al the talk is of a slick, smooth Adamek outboxing a heavy, slow Arreola to a points decision, but this does Arreola a serious injustice IMHO. Arreola has very under-rated conditioning and movement. He proved it against Vitali and I think he'll prove it again tonight. He's also got genuine KO power (26 stoppage wins, generally early) and a decent chin (also proved against Vitali). I can't decide whther I think it's ging to be an early or late stoppage, so I'm just going to get on the stoppage I think. Bet: 5 pts Arreola by KO, TKO, DQ @ 2.40 (sportingbet)

  12. Re: 2010 Boxing Thread Great. We've got to put up with that deluded cnut for at least another fight now.:eyes Having said that, as I said in the write up that left is a killer punch. I have nightmares about Haye walking into it and Audley winning a world title.

That was some punch. Why could he not have done that 9 years ago.....?!
If you watch his fights it's the punch he's always looking for, his problem is he's got absolutely no jab or stamina so when he steps up his opposition he's got nothing to dominate his opponent and manouevre him into position to deliver it.
  13. Re: 2010 Boxing Thread Struggling to pick a bet for the Sprott/Harrison match up. Harrison to win is prohibitively low odds, I do think Harrison can KO him IF the right Harrison turns up. Sprott is done, he's unlikely to win on pts and is likely to be going after the moneyshot again. This will make him ripe for Audley's big left down the pipe, which is his nicest and trustiest shot when delivered with intent. Having said that, will Audley be intent to just cover up and throw 5-10 punches around to try and take it to the cards? Too many imponderables for me with this one and nothing at stand out odds, so I'm leaving it alone.

  14. Re: 2010 Boxing Thread

I paid £15 for Khan V Salita on Box Office so I didn't want to pay nearly £60 to see Haye in a 30 second fight. I want to see the whole fight again to see if the ref should have stopped it in the 1st' date=' hard to see from up in the gods. :ok[/quote'] just watched it again this afternoon. I've seen them called off for less, he was still very glassy eyed. One thing we couldn't see was how much of a mess Haye had made of him, bust him up pretty badly. Not surprised his corner pulled him out at all.
  15. Re: 2010 Boxing Thread

:dude I wasn't quite :nanawhen Ruiz went down in the 1st' date=' he wobbled towards the ref on 8 count and I thought it was getting stopped. He did well to last so long. Well done to anyone else cashing on the fight. :ok[/quote'] :lol I would have had mixed feelings after predicting a quick blow-out. It's nice to be right, not so nice to get 30 seconds of action after paying for a ticket.
  16. Re: 2010 Boxing Thread

Ah just got in' date=' missed the fight but I think myself and Matt can count ourselves pretty unlucky there. 5 seconds left ffs.. nearly a full house. I struggle to see where either Klitschko goes from here, Haye seems to be the only option right now unless they are going to abandon the American audience for good and I think the Sosnowski-Vitali bout says it all really.[/quote'] I can see how you might feel aggrieved, being so close. But I still think the KO was the right call. Wlad could have picked a round to take him out in. Where do they go from here? Well as far as I can see the future of heavyweight boxing is in Europe. The old Eastern Bloc seems to have a non-stop conveyor belt of giant Slavs who are beggining to show some real promise. Povetkin is obviously the closest to toppling the Klits (even though he's not really a giant). The next guy to watch out for is Pulev, the guy who stopped Skelton. I'd put money on him being Heavyweight champion within 20-25 fights.
  17. Re: 2010 Boxing Thread Well I'd resigned myself to losing the cash. 2:55 of the 12th:lol:lol I always feel the same frustrations watching Wlad as I do when I watch Mayweather. Stop fcuking about and put him out of his misery. If Wlad was a black american he'd be the richest athlete in history.

  18. Re: 2010 Boxing Thread aaaarrrrghhh. Just pressed the back button before finishing my lengthy write up. Long and short of it was: I think Chambers lack of quality opponents has resulted in him becoming over-rated. Particularly his jab and chin. I don't think he has enough power to make Wlad fully respect him and I think once he tastes Wlads jab/right cross combo he'll retreat into his shell allowing his guard to be broken down by Wlads beautifully accurate shots. I've had Wlad to KO him in the second half of the fight. 10 pts @ 9/5 with sportingbet.

  19. Re: 2010 Boxing Thread If anyone wants a stream for this PM me, I've got a cracking HD stream going cause my Sky is down. Anyways, onto the fight. Clottey by decision is 22/1. This is an absolutely insane price IMO, for a man who is likely to see the fight out. This is the first time in a good while that Pac is up against a naturally bigger man at a natural weight. No catchweight bollocks. This probably hints at a slight lack of respect for Clottey and pacs well documented interests outside the ring suggest he may not be 100% focussed ging into this. Having said that, despite starting out at fly, or wherever it was he still looks a monster at the weight. Punches like a mule and is fast as fcuk. However, Clottey is patient and well schooled, and most likely not going to be open to the leading right left hand that worked so well for Pac against De la Hoya, Hatton and Cotto. Clottey on points is a risky proposition as pac is very much the 'home' fighter here. Aside from Pac actually being likely to win, Clottey always just does enough to lose in the big fights. Cotto being a prime example of this where a flash KD in the first and the 6th sealed the fight for him. So who do i think wins? Pac by SD or a draw. Who am I betting on? Clottey by points. There's no way a fight between two world class fighters should have one of them down as 22/1 to take it on points. Just a small 3pt bet with Sportingodds. with a 0.5 pt bet on the draw.
