  1. Re: Next England manager

Which leads me back to my original question, if say Alan Shearer and Bobby Robson took over as England managerial team, would they pay out on both?
Jesus! I hope we don't find out For me Hiddink is the obvious choice, and he's already said he's keen. But you never know with the FA, they're a funny bunch. I'd like to think that Pearce is a pretty safe lay. If they were apointing a manager tomorrow they I'd be laying it big, but by the end of the season he might have built up a bit more of a reputation. Mclaren shouldn't even be in the running for me, I think it would be a brave man at the FA to give him the job as they'd get hammered in the press, so he might be a better lay. These markets usually have quite a few swings especially over such a long time frame, so money can be made with some well placed back and lays
  2. Re: Next England manager

What an ignorant and bigoted post. Do you think Catholics not allowed in england or something? Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Alan Shearer is a Catholic, he has captained England and not a word of bad press went his way because of it. As FG says, what does it matter what faith the England manager is? england is a nation of many faits is it not?
I think my post may have been misunderstood. I'm not saying catholics shouldn't manage the england team, I don't care about his religion. But, sombody told me (and granted, this might be bollocks) that his father wanted him to manage Celtic BECAUSE of his catholic faith. So my point was that if he would make the decision to manage Celtic based on his faith, then that might seem like an equally good reason to turn down the England job. His wife being ill was an unrelated point, but that's the reason he's not employed in football at the moment. I'd be very suprised if the above were true, but that's what I was told hence the question. It was not meant as a sweeping generalisation about any race or religion.
  3. Re: Your Advice Please Men And Ladies Tried again in Corals today but no joy. My personal opinion is that there isn't much long term money to be made from this, as you are basically relying on sombody elses incompetance. Not having a go Kev, just giving you my honest assessment If you can get the bet on every week then good luck to you. My only advice is to have a plan b ready if one day the 2nd bookie refuses it, cos it seems like it's only a matter of time (especially if you start throwing big sums around)

  4. Re: Football Trading Question Don't know if the powers that be will like you posting the link on here. But to answer your question I think it's always prudent to assume these schemes are bollocks until proved otherwise. If the only way you can find out is by parting with £140 I'd give it a miss

  5. Re: Bamses Loss Recovery OK bamse I think I understand the first bit now, I was a little unsure about the terms you were using (divisor, goal etc.) but see if I've got this right. Your stake is your goal divided by you divisor. If you lose, your goal increases by the amount of the stake you've just lost. And the divisor is also the number of losses you can stand before the divisor has to be increased? I'm glad to see you're not just relying on a staking plan with random selections as this never works (but is often tried!). It'll be intersting to compare your long term results with flat staking. I personally don't use staking plans, but I wish you well with this system

  6. Re: Bamses Loss Recovery Got to admit I don't fully understand your system, but on first glance it looks like some sort of bastardised martingale system? what is your selection criteria? if you are just randomly selecting even money bets and relying on the staking plan, then I fear your system may be doomed. apologies if I've misunderstood your strategy

  7. Re: Punter's Lounge $1000 Freeroll Sat 7pm July 23rd - Must enter by Thursday Midnight! Paul/Anyone Else, Sorry to be a pain in the arse, but just so everyone is on the same page here could someone post up details what we do on Saturday i.e. do we just find the table on PP and sit down there? if so what's it called? Also, what's the structure of the tournement, and how are prizes dished out etc. ps. feel free to take the piss out of my poker ignorance:ok

  8. Re: Martingdale System..... Spreadman, if I've understood your last post correctly, you would also make a profit from just betting on 'even' in singles? If the bet is good value, you make money. If not, you lose money. So for me the staking system becomes somewhat irrelevant. I think the point is that it's finding the value that makes you money, not the martingale staking. ..or is that the same point you were trying to make!? :ok

  9. Re: Martingdale System..... Maybe someone should do a definative Martingale thread and pin it, or write an article and get 20 notes off Paul to put it on the site. It's something that comes up time and time again, and I think if you're honest, it's something that most people have considered at one time. Surely that's what the PL is all about, sharing knowledge. I saw a very good explaination on here once of the maths behind it, but I can't find it now. (by Joe I think)

  10. Re: Martingale with draws

thanks, but what does the sign " ^ " mean? And how do calculate it? T
Tony, the "^" sign means "to the power of" i.e 10 squared is written as 10^2. But Lardonio is right, the staking plan on it's own will not work. It's pretty much accepted that Martingale is a dangerous game which will eventually lose you money. If your picks are bad, then you'll lose, simple as that.
  11. Re: 10pts system for horses Herp, Good luck with your system if you persue it, but you can't really hide from the fact that when you hit a long losing run you're f*cked. Others can probably explain it better than me, but this Martingale type system is flawed in the long run. This type of system comes up time and time again, and on the face of it looks pretty good, but the mathematics of it tell another story. I would ask one of the stats guys on here for a more detailed explaination. Sorry if this sounds patronising, that's not my intention. (hope I haven't misunderstood some part of your system that makes it different from the rest!)

  12. Re: Total goals think tank

It's good if you're selling total goals or backing under 2.5! Granted it's easy for me to say that now, but if you can indentify the 'spineless cnuts' of this world, it may be worth backing the under. I didn't see the game but this may be an example of what I was talking about earlier. Valencia get a man sent off, so the other 9 defend trying to avoid a hammering. Meanwhile Barca are 2-0 up against 10 men so get complacent and take it easy. The result? a stalemate and the game finishes 2-0. I my opinion a sending off when a team is losing is a godsend if you've backed under 2.5
  13. Re: Total goals think tank Spreadman, Do you find that there's more profit in selling goals on the spreads than going under 2.5 on the fixed odds? Your user name suggests that's your prefered method, but I just wondered why? I heard an argument that the spread on the total goals market is generally too high for 2 reasons - 1. your man in the street preferes to buy goals as it is the more exciting, 'entertaining' option. 2. People shit themselves at the prospect of unlimited liability of selling total goals, so take the safer option of buying. do you buy into this theory?

  14. Re: Tournament betting, examining strategies. Yeah broke even DP. I was looking like I was going to more or less break even anyway cos the match odds were lower than I expected. He would have been low in the semi against Murphy if he'd got through, and a bit higher in the final against Stevens, so I might have made 3 or 4 quid if I was lucky. What tennis tournement were you thinking of, the french open? I see Federer is ridiculously low for Wimbledon
