  1. On the other side, i've backed a few horses that have drifted to double the odds in the last 5/10 mins before the off & they've gone on to win.. And plenty who've shortened up alot & gone on to lose..! I tend to put abit more on the drifter, after my initial bet.

2.50 Taunton - L'amiral David 1pt win @ 13/2 Bet365 This one hasn't shown much at all in 6 career starts but he makes his handicap debut here off a very low mark and comes here after having a wind op. We seen at the weekend what wonders a wind op did for another Alan King horse in Chatez so there could be plenty of improvement to come from this horse. Apparently this horse is one of few in the stable that can keep up with Chatez so that alone means he must be showing plenty at home. Stables runners aren't in the best of form but I am hopeful of plenty of improvement from this horse tomorrow.
Cheers for the info about the wind op - i try & keep a look out for these, but looking at the cards today i would've never known about this one - i reckon these things should be declared on the cards before hand..!

S2.20 Show Me The Bar e/w 66/1 Bet365 There's a lot of runners in this maiden than had had a run or two which negates the worry about being wary of backing horses being saved for low handicap marks. This trainer is having a poor season but a few of his have been running better lately and he has a terrific strike rate at the track. I also like the swithc in jockey to a decent 3lb claimer and the horses sire stats suggest the horse should appreciate this course. The place money looks up for grabs in this and this horse might just offer the value.
    Non-runner mate.

16:30 Lingfield Carry On Deryck @16-1 BetVictor
I was gonna put this one up, but there's no point, as i don't have time to do daily selections.. Finished like a train on it's debut run (6f8y, Class 4 Maiden) to beat the 1/4fav, as a two year old. Had three more quite decent runs in defeat (by not much), after that, in Class 1 Listed races - two 7f's & one 1m4y lto 135 days go. Handicap & All Weather debut for new yard today, as a three year old, in this Class 3, 7f1y. Not sure about Jockey (takes 3lb off though), but i reckon he can finish first past the post (if he takes to the new surface!) at a big price - gone out to 28/1 on BetVictor now. The rest of the runners all have their merits, but I'd rather take a chance on Carry On Deryck at the prices..

1.50 Chepstow: Eminent Poet 0.5pt EW @ 40/1 BOG Corals Won a bumper 1st time out, 7th last time 88 lengths behind winner?! One of Venetias with Aiden Coleman aboard. I smell a rat!
Wasn't it 37 lengths behind? Last race was 88 days ago, which was a Grade 2 Class 1, & today a Class 5. Can't find any info on the bumper race though? Price has gone down, but i reckon it's worth having a small e/w stake on this Venetia Williams horse, which apparently has a good pedigree, cheers!
  6. Re: Five Furlong Races at Southwell

yeah........doesn't look much edge to be had in todays race The only one drawn low that is an EW price is Bapak Bangsawan at 40/1 with wm hill He's run OK here and is well handicapped. Did well last time to be beaten just 4 lengths from stall 11. But you do get the impression that once they've gone to Ann Stokell their winning days are over But as my intention with this idea was to throw up big priced EW shots I'll put him up for a small EW. I think I've found some weaknesses with the more fancied low drawn horses Scarborough is 10lbs above his last winning mark and has looked in the handicappers grip for his last few outings. On the plus side he drops in class. One thing I've noticed is that he has a tendency to veer to his left and with no horse drawn outside him he could easily end up on the far rail which is not the place to be. Only Ten Percent would have been my EW choice if his odds were conducive. Good chance of being placed. Ran well last time but he's never won off a mark this high and needs a career best at age 7 and after 46 races.........which is unlikely. At 25/1 would be worth a small EW but not at 7/1. Extreme Surprise is lightly raced and on the up but this is a much better race than his wins and he's up in the weights
I backed this one lto, didn't bother today, 25/1 :wall
  7. Re: Nap of the Day - Wednesday 22nd October 2014

Well done mate! Hope you had a decent amount on it! I was a bit of a wimp and only did £2.50 E/W
Cheers, had a tenner for the win & fiver for a place. Was too green lto, had it on my tracker, thought i'd give the Galileo colt another chance to live upto it's promise, over a longer distance & with a little more experience.. Price seemed way too big..!
  8. Re: Nap of the day Thursday 25th Sept

Can I also note as I got comments that someone backed my selection yesterday. So as abit of a disclaimer... I have very little knowledge with horses, and I would suggest my selections that have won during my first month on here are probably more down to beginners luck, I do have a read of information provided by a few websites but thats as far as it goes. As I started in the competition late I set off with a plan of going for selections with decent odds luckily I've nailed three. (so maybe thats the way I will continue) Please don't be misguided with my selections for the reasons above, my own confidence in myself and my selections is proof in my stake...for the 33/1 winner yesterday, I had 50p e/w of real money. I always back my selection I put on here but I stick to the £1 max bet. Maybe it seems arrogant of myself putting this (it most certainly isn't meant that way) but my concern was that maybe people with a "novice knowledge" like myself would keep an eye out for my picks. At least with this statement you are aware of who I am and my knowledge (or lack of) in this field. Sorry for going on. All the best to all
Nice one Tony, you would be surprised how many people follow tips blindly from people they have very little knowledge of, its quite scary some of the comments i have read. Well done anyway, great start to the competition, hope it continues mate, shame your a baggie though:lol
If someone's reasoning / selection resonates with me, i'll usually check out the Racing Post & Betfair Timeform cards, amongst other sources, & decide whether to back or not - stakes usually being between £5-20 (more often on the lower side)... Don't have time to go through all the days cards at the mo, so not been doing the competition..
