  1. Re: Mentality for being a pro Gett1n is a cheeky cnut indeed. I do ok. There's plenty "easier" and less stressful ways of making money than playing poker. You have to really want it. Thing is poker is luck combined with skill, long term luck evens out but it's still frustrating meantime. Some of the most skillfull games like snooker still have elements of luck, how the ball disturbs a pack etc. Actually that's one reason why I like chess, no luck at all, no such thing as a lucky move or anything, no randomness about it. Anyway, I digress. Patience is a quality which is underrated. You have to be very patient and wade through hours of garbage cards, eventually you get something and almost double through only to be killed on the river by a 16-1 outdraw or something. It can seem pretty pointless and frustrating then. You just gotta be patient and accept as long as you are making the right plays, the money will come to you eventually. I think you are defintiely right about the money thing CJ. To all forms of gambling I think. It's almost as if the money has become de-valued somehow. Twas the same when playing fruit machines, I'd think nothing of being 50 quid in one, was a common occurence. The money was just a tool used to play them. Similarly I knew long term I was making money hence you may suffer the odd "bad beat" on a machine but you were making money overall. Although I must say playing fruit machines was alot less volatile than no limit hold 'em. It's also interesting to note the similarities between the people that know what they are doing from all aspects of gambling. In the fruit machine world there are of course big headed loud mouths that think they know it all, just like in any other aspect of life. Often they did know alot. You get similar people in poker. For me the true skillful players realise no matter how much they know they can still know more, and are always willing to learn. Always looking to ways of how they can do things better. You also gotta be smart enough to know you can be fooled. You are only human.

  3. Re: NBA Tuesday Well sani I seriously hope you took the early line on phoenix at -10.5 as you posted ! Would be a sore one if you jumped on late at -11.5 Left it right to the last few seconds as well. I nearly followed you, but I missed the 10.5 so I left it, sooooooooooo glad I did now. And a nice "easy" under for taz in as well. Good job both :clap I notice the line movement on miami game is like, rather alot just prior to tip off. At pinnacle Miami were 2.06 pk, just before tip off. Is this cos they are gonna lose ? We shall see. Mon' the shaq !

  4. Re: straight flush Nope, previous plays do not affect future plays. You keep playing, make the right plays and hope for the best. Noone is the world would throw that hand down, unlucky. Onto the next.

  5. Re: NBA Wednesday Um erm you sure it's gone ? Look at post 11 in this thread. I got a pop up blocker but it still makes a sound when a pop up tries to come up, and as the PL is paid for you never get any popups on it, hence thought it was odd when it did.Now hopefully orlando under will come in. I seem to think boston and orlando are the 2 bogey teams for unders, sure I can remember them screwing me a few teams ! Probably a case of remembering the bad beats much more vividly than the winners.

  6. Re: NBA Wednesday Oh there has been some, been watching pinnacle and I backed them at -3.5 at 1.926 They've been out to -4.5 at 1.909 I think, hence they've obviously been getting some money. Currently -4 at 1.952 there. One thing I noticed is the toronto line appears to be going up the way, under 211.5 now available at 1.952

  7. Re: NBA picks, Monday OUch man that's an unchiller, overtime has saved me a few times but fecked me a few times. Helps as much as it hinders, but it's nice to have some consistency about it. Usually it always counts ! I backed atlanta tonight +7.5 and thought ah sweet it's in only for them to nail a 3 pointer and take it to overtime....all of a sudden they could lose it again. Luckily it still sneaked in. Not after eventing just saying what a stresser it can be ! Taz do you not think having an account with a book like pinnacle is a huge plus ? I mean their prices on games is so much better than anywhere else. I backed 5 games tonight, prices I took were 2.000, 1.962,1.952, 1.980, 1.877(bought half a point) I mean if you can get similar elsewhere fair enough but over a season that fecking adds up ! Such a difference from taking 1.909 at most other books. Obviously you can get decent prices on the exchanges too but the lines there are static.

  8. Re: NBA picks, Monday Or alternatively wait till the line comes out and pile on spurs -1 at yer local bookie and new orleans +9 somewhere else and pray the spurs win by 2-8. Effectively getting nearly 20-1 for spurs to win by 2-8 Or actually come to think of it surely just backing spurs -1 would be better, I mean if they should be 9 point favs it's a great bet. You could always lay some on match odds at betfair for backup.

  9. Re: NBA picks, Monday :lol man that's an amusing bookie. Well there don't seem to be many prices about on that san antonio game but on betfair the match odds are up and people are wishing to back san antonio at odds of 1.18 hence I am guessing they should be around 9 point favourites for the game. Hence if you can get -1 at 1.85 surely you would wanna pile on that !

  10. Re: NBA Picks, Saturday

Not for one minute saying that you can't 'predict' games through physical form/injuries/match-ups...sani is proof of that!....But let me throw one back at you....Do you really think Duncan in/out makes only a 3 point difference anyway? How do you quantify how many points a player is worth to a team?
Take his height in inches, divide by 11, minus arrogance factor, add desire factor, add testosterone level, minus hype factor and if name = steve nash then add 5. Simple really.
  11. Re: NBA Picks, Friday Pinnacle lines are constantly changing throughout the day, and prices are constantly swinging. Update the lines every few mins or so and you'll notice changes. It's worth waiting about as you are quite likley to get a much better line and price if you wait for the right moment

  12. Re: Chess - Linares 2005 Oh man, that's terrible. The greatest player ever to play the game retires. Alot of people are legends but few are legends during their own time, I believe Kasparov is such a person. He must have just collapsed yesterday, i saw the game and he just seemed to donate topalov a pawn and then exchanged down into a lost ending, weird. Ah well depsite that loss, in his last tounrie he still went out showing he's the best in the world. End of an era for chess. It's not gonna be anywhere near as interesting now without Kasparov. Love him or loathe him he has character, he makes things happen and makes things so much more interesting. I hope he gets the brilliancy prize for this tournament, noone has ever been more deserving.
