  1. Re: NBA Picks, Saturday Think he's been at my ladbrokes again ! They are -5.5 there but the price has now dropped like a stone as it did with dallas -4.5 the other night. Still worth keeping an eye on as if you are quick you can get a line 3 or more points better for a slight dedeuction in price sometimes.

  2. Re: MLB Bingo Bango Bongo Sorry if this has been touched on before, but was wondering about the handicap difference in prices as to just the money line. Exactly how common are victories of 1 run in baseball ? the price different betting wise seems huge. For instance san francisco tonight money line at 1.88 or -1.5 at 2.81 Alot of victories are by more than 1 run surely ? I mean ok gutting if it's a 1 run victory but surely the extra you gain when you do actually win price wise is more than enough to compensate for the times when your team only wins by a run ? Am I talking bollox here ? Are there some sort of stats for this ?

  3. Re: Punters Lounge VII - STARTS AT 7PM THU (REG @ 6) The overall standard was pretty decent this time I would say. I made a bad call I should have folded and put myself out. I still notice people seem to be scared to bet pot sized bets, and often end up betting the minimum. Thing is everyone was playing so tight for a while that often this was enough ! Everyone wants to do well though and noone wants be first out so you can kinda understand why. Out on the bubble with AA ? Totally rancid that like. I'm well accustomed with the bubble though billy, hard lines.

Is the "Great One" not appearing tonight?
Don't worry Dave I am here :lol
  4. Re: NBA Thursday Hardly anyone seems to have a line out on this game at the moment. It was -7 at 1.85 at pinnacle for a while. It went offline for quite a while and them reappeared at -9 at 1.952 so something has obviously changed. I notice however you can get dallas at -4.5 at 1.72 at ladbrokes which surely now is a very good bet ? Took some of that anyway, doubt it will be around much longer.

  5. Re: NBA Wednesday Backing golden state does seem to be rather profitable of late. Portland are just pretty pish so in some weird kinda logic they'll end up beating them haha, but surely not ! They're beating better teams than portland right ? Notice yesterday how orlando and boston thed bogey teams bugger things up ! I hate those teams ! Well that's the memphis, golden state and san antonio line moving the wrong direction for us already, hope it comes back in a bit !

  6. Re: NBA Tuesday Why does the basketball forum attract such tits ? How long have you been readingsani's tips kowicz ? Have you provided a load of useful tips yourself ? Why do people insist on turning disagreements on games into personal things ? Fcuk sake man. I mean disagree on the game sure but to go round and say peoples' tips are no use is another matter entirely. More so when they actually are decent tips. I'll be cheering for lakers now purely out of spite ! :spank

  7. Re: Grand National Ante-post Got some on at 25s before it was being heavily backed. Sickening thing is, look up the betfair history and you'll find a fiver traded at 150.00 , and there's over 100 quid traded at 80.00 !! They said back it now as it was gonna come down, that was a few weeks ago and sure enough it has. Now if it would just win, we'd all be happy.

  8. Re: Grand National Ante-post A friend of a friend know the people who train/own strong resolve and they definitely fancy his chances. They fancied them at the welsh cup as well I think it was, which I mentioned and he was 2nd. The danger they say is sprinters, he was beaten by a sprinter at welsh cup I think. If the sprinters bugger off they reckon very good chance of winning. Been backed in from longish odds to 10s on laddies as mentioned already. We shall see.

  9. Re: NBA Picks, Sunday Oh right I explained anyway on MSN but yeah for anyone else to get fractional into decimal just divide the first digit by the second and add 1. Hence 6/4 is (6/4) + 1 = 2.50 And for the pointless american odds, if it's - (minus) it's the amount of money you have to "lay" as they call it. They actually mean back, or stake or whatever, to win 100. Hence -110 means you have to Bet $110 to win $100 hence fractional odds of 10/11 or decimal of 1.909 If it's +(plus) it's the amount of cash you win for staking $100. Hence +125 means if you stake $100 you win $125 (plus your $100 stake) Hence +125 is 5/4 in fractional or 2.25 in decimal. Why do americans have to have their own way of doing everything ? For me decimal odds are by far the easies to understand and the easiest to compare prices with.

  10. Re: NBA Picks, Sunday Ooooo I had actually labelled out dallas as a possible play myself, seems you agree. I mentioned it to taz earlier and he agreed it was not too bad, of course I know feck all remember. I don't think there is anything taz fancies today. Was wondering how highly you rated yao ming sani ? I can't help but feel there's a bit of a beckham factor there, ie his value marketing wise finanically due to his appeal etc perhaps lead people to believe he is a better player than he actually is. I mean I've no doubt beckham and yao are very good at their respective sports, but would I class them as "world class" or the best, probably not. Having said that 6/4 aint a bad price to turn phoenix over surely. Even on something as simple as looking at phoenix won the last 7 from 13 against houston..... just from that you could say houston should be about 11/10 then. Id detroit play to their potential you would definitely expect them to win, as long as they don't have a collapse which has happened a couple of times lately I think. I'll be going with you tonight on dallas anyway and probably the others as well so good luck to us all !

  11. Re: Dodgy Users Ah good stuff. Interesting how he remarked about computers having trouble about going all in early etc and the general "feel" which is basically what I was saying. Ten years research ? That will be cool, I'd like to see what they have come up with.

  12. Re: Dodgy Users Similarly a person doesn't have to be an amazing poker player to make money. Just better than the people he is playing with. I am sure there must be some fundamental differences between computers playing poker and computers playing chess. There's alot more variables in a sense in poker, hmmm I dunno it's a difficult one. Also tournament poker and cash poker would also be very different things. Some people say that karpov in his prime would be ideal agaisnt computers. He used to bore opponents into losing with his positional game squeezing out minute advantages. HAving said that Kasp can play a not too bad positional game himself :lol It'll be interesting to see how good computers can get at poker. But even if they get good will they stop people playing online and cause the death of internet poker, that I definitely cannot see.

  13. Re: Dodgy Users You are forgetting in poker no matter how "well" you play if the cards don't fall for you, you can still lose. This is not the case however in chess, where your destiny lies entirely in your own hands. A generation of poker playing bots scooping up the cash ? Can't see it really.

  14. Re: Dodgy Users They are closer purely because of raw processing power. They have turned quantity into quality. Now computers can anaylse millions more positions per second this has therefore made them able to play better, they can calculate deeper before they have to stop and "evaluate". There have also been slight improvements in computers ability to evalutate positions but they are nowhere near yet. The thing is depsite the huge processing power of computers there are billions of billions of ways of playing a chess game, I would expect you would need a quantum computer to be able to "solve" it.

  15. Re: Dodgy Users Well yeah, as someone once said if 2 super intellects were to play a game of chess. White would move and they would either agree a draw or black would resign. They are alot closer than they were with chess. But the fundamentals of evaluation still aren't there, no matter how much techno jargon they try and disguise it with.

  16. Re: Dodgy Users Computers haven't cracked chess just yet ! Deep blue beat kasparov thanks to an utterly awful opening blunder by Kasparov in the last game. He did actually beat in in individual games. The most recent man V machine contest was a draw overall. Although Kasparov was beaten in a game, he also won in a game. Hence proving computers haven't cracked chess just yet. If chess is ever "solved", ie a computer powerful enough to calculate every single game of chess possibly appears, then it will be unbeatable, unless there is some sort of forced win for either colour (white most likely). The problem for chess and with poker is the evaluation part. It's easy enough to program in rules etc, but eventually you have to tell the computer to stop calculating and make an evaluation. This is where it struggles. Things humans can do in seconds a computer would have serious problems with. Eg someone I know to be a very good poker player raises all in pre-flop in a tournament. I'm sat with QQ, what do I do ? Fold of course. What would a computer make of that ? Purely on maths it's likely that the QQ is winning against 2 random cards, but it isn't 2 random cards and you have to take into account your opponent. Is he gonna throw all his chips in preflop with anything other than AA if he is a very good player ? I would guess no and hence fold. A computer would have problems I imagine, espeically if it were holding KK. That's just the tip of the iceberg, there's a whole other host of problems it would have. I would certainly not mind playing poker against "bots"

  17. Re: In another MTT final ATM..... One way is to do a screen grab. Get the results page in clear view, press " Print Scrn" on your keyboard. It's usually above or around the page up , page down , insert keys on the right half of your keyboard. Open up some art package, go to the drop down menu edit, and select "paste". This will paste your whole desktop into the art package. You can then cut out the tournie result part you need, paste that into a new picture, save it, then stick the pick up online, and whack it on the normal way.

  18. Re: In another MTT final ATM.....

You're the one who won't get over it. This is someone elses thread and you bring up arguments from another thread. That tio me is childish and boring. I will not say any more on the subject other than you should be getting over it.
It was on the same day right after it. If this is childish and boring why did you feel the need to mention it again ? You could have just left it. So we won't be hearing from you for a while ? :ok
  19. Re: Another Hand for you to decide on? I'd disagree with that dave, it was definitely worth seeing the flop after his re-raise for implied odds. He obviously has a good hand and isn't gonna get off it easily. If you do hit your 6, it's likely the guy will lose his whole stack to it. Which is what nearly happened, he shoved all his money in way behind, but got lucky. I'll call any pocket pairs. A pocket pair is also a good hand to call a raise with. Dangerous hands to call raises with are things like AQ, AJ, 1010,JJ Note the 1010 and JJ are dangerous because the flop can come 9 high and you might thinj you are winning. Which you maybe. But it can land you in trouble, you have to be careful with those hands. If you hit an ace with AQ or AJ you could be behind to AK, a likely raising hand. If you hit a Q or a J with AQ or AJ you could be behind to KK AA or even QQ or JJ, again likley raising hands. If you are going to call raisers you have to watch you aren't playing the same cards, and if you are, make sure yours are better. It's better to call a raise with something like 44, 66 than AQ. AQ is usually a fold if someone raises, especially a tight player. It's gonna get you in trouble. Pocket pairs are much better for calling raises with. I like calling raises with them cos when your pp hits you often get a double through off the guy. If a player raises with KK say and you call with 44, a flop of say 10,8,4 is gonna lose him his whole stack. On the other hand, if you call his raise with AQ and a flop of Q,7,2 comes down it's you who's in trouble. OK you may argue what if both players sets hit. Eg KK and 44 with a K84 flop. Well firstly it's very unlikely, ok it's a risk you take but I mean poker is a a calculated risk. You can't not call because of worrying about things like that. The main point is calling with hands you shouldn't that will just get you into trouble, AQ, AJ , A10, QK, KJ, etc. Better to call with suited connectors than those hands. As usual position helps a great deal. If someone raises and you call with 77 say. Flop comes out Q85. Now if he is first to act you can see if he's gonna bet the pot and represent AQ, KK, AA or whatever. Or if he checks it, which could be a hand like AK missing the flop. Raising with low cards can be good for deception occasionally. You can pick up some nice pots with it. But I wouldn't do it too often. It keeps people guessing as to what you have. Otherwise you become too readable. An example is a player jezza pointed out to me on wagerlogic called "domo". If he has AQ, AK, QQ, KK, AA any of the "high" hands he will do a healthy pre-flop raise, and he wont ever throw the cards away now regardless of the flop. If he has AK and misses the flop he'll play it like it's AA. But when he does this, you know exactly what you are up against. Should the flop be 944 you dont have to worry about a 9 or a 4. Raising with low cards every now and then keeps people guessing. Remember many internet players find it impossible to fold hands like KK or AA regardless of the flop and betting. Use this to your advantage.
