  1. Re: England > FA Cup > Weekend > 27/28/29 Jan Evens, or there abouts, on my own team, Hull City to beat Crawley is a pretty generous price. It's been all or nothing at home this season with 8 wins and 5 defeats, 2 of those defeats were the first two home games when things weren't right, since then it's been just 3 losses, only one of those (Derby) was a poor performance. Crawley are clearly a competent side but there is a big gap between league 2 and the championship. I think Crawley may struggle to break down what is the 2nd best defence in the Championship. With an important game against Donny on Tuesday I would expect changes, maybe 5 or 6. Josh King (on loan from Man Utd) should start, Tom Cairney in midfield along with Richard Garcia, Liam Cooper who was excellent in the last round in at the back, plus maybe one or two others. It will weaken the side but not by much and it would still leave a side that should have too much for the league two side.

  2. Re: Golf: PGA Tour 2012 - Sony Open (Week 1 = bad) + (Week 2 = more bad) = -12 points. But the PGA Tour season is a marathon not a sprint, though lets hope it’s not like the time I did a marathon (sweaty, painful and seemingly never ending) The list of winners for this tournament (previously the Bob Hope Classic) in recent years is not a who’s who of golf, Jhonnatan Vegas, Bill Haas, Pat Perez, DJ Trahan and Charley Hoffman have all triumphed here in recent years, so despite some big names it suggests that it’s worth looking away from the favourites. Played over three courses as a pro-am with the cut before the final round, patience and birdies are the main things you need here, lots of birdies, the winner is likely to be better than -20 Kyle Stanley 1pt e/w @ 100/1 Ladbrokes (this was the price i took yesterday afternoon, Crouch has put the latest odds) Crouch tipped this young man last week (and this week) and eloquently explained why he’s a good prospect. T29 on debut in this tournament last year he is a player full of birdies, 6th in total birdies on tour last season (he made 16 in Hawaii on a tough course last week), he just needs to keep the bogeys and doubles off his card, he should find that easier here on courses that are set up with the amateurs in mind. 4 top tens last season suggest a player on the verge of a breakthrough win and at a nice price I’ll take the chance that he can keep the birdies flowing this week. Danny Lee 1pt e/w @ 150/1 Ladbrokes I tipped Danny last week, he missed the cut (more time to practise!) For reasons why I’m sticking with Danny (birdies) see last week’s write up, don’t let me down Danny boy. Jason Kokrak 1 pt e/w @ 200/1 Ladbrokes This guy hits it further than I can see, his driving distance in 2011 was the longest on either the PGA or Nationwide Tour, last week in Hawaii he averaged 328 yards! He can play a bit too, twice a winner on the Nationwide Tour last year Kokrak is an exciting young player who has worked his way up through the mini tours. He progressed to the NT last year where he made a big impact with his two wins, in 2011 on the NT he was 1st in driving distance, 2nd in birdies, 3rd in scoring average, he’s also got a decent short game and is a better than average putter. Kokrak is a player on the up and after making the cut in Hawaii he should be looking forward to this outing here. Chris Couch 1 pt e/w @ 200/1 Bet365 Big Chris Couch has always been good at making birdies, 3rd on tour in 2010 in birdie average and 25th last year he makes a lot, 14th in eagles last year add up to good things on the scorecard for the one time tour winner. You need to go low this week, probably in all four rounds so being a steady eddie aint going to get it done. Nice progression in this tournament as well, in the last three years he’s finished T60 (2009) T42 (2010) and T7 (2011) so he’s due to win this week! Good luck to Aidy & Crouch :hope

  3. Re: NFL: Divisional Playoffs 2pts - Kendall Hunter rush yards, over 23.5, 10/11 @ Ladbrokes This is the most fascinating game of the weekend for me, edging towards the Saints but changed my mind a few times today already. This line was actually at 20.5 when I took it a few hours ago but I would still take 23.5. In his rookie season Hunter has been over this mark in 10 of the 14 games where he's had carries. The Saints allowed the least rush attempts in the league in the regular season but the second most (5 yards) per rush attempt. Hunter isn't going to get a lot of attempts here, particularly if NO get ahead early, but I think the 49ers defense will keep them in it long enough. If he gets 5 or 6 carries then I think Hunter can cover this line.

  4. Re: Rugby Union: 2011/12 RaboDirect Pro 12 Great call on Ulster chaps, never in doubt.:clap Cardiff @ 4/5 Bluesq Taking Cardiff to beat London Irish this afternoon. Edinburgh's win last night leaves Irish with little hope of getting through, Blues on the other hand have a great chance if they can take the win here. Both teams are having a pretty average season domestically but the Blues have found a bit of form in Europe, to me they just look like they have a bit more quality. They also have a few players coming back fit, Chris Czekai, Rhys Thomas and Fau Filise all return to give them a boost. Cardiff are strong in the pack and have class in the backs and I think that will be enough to get a crucial win here.

  5. Re: Golf: PGA Tour 2012 - Hyundai Tournament of Champions Danny Lee 1pt e/w @ 125/1 Skybet Danny Lee has squeezed a lot into what is still a very young career. He gained his promotion from the Nationwide Tour last year, on the NT he was 1st in birdie average, 1st in scoring average, 6th in putting, 12th in GIR and 19th in driving distance, all that added up to a stellar year for Lee who had 1 win and 9 top ten finishes from 18 starts. He also finished T2 at the Volvo China Open on the European Tour. We saw on the PGA Tour last year how well graduates from the Nationwide did and Lee can also make the step up, he looked set for stardom when he won the US amateur and then the Johnnie Walker Classic on the European Tour as an 18 year old amateur. He struggled somewhat in 2010 when he tinkered with his swing a bit too much but he’s still only 21 and is a class act who now looks ready to shine. Rory Sabbatini 1pt e/w @ 35/1 Bet365 Sabbatini is a player who when he plays well, tends to put a run of decent finishes together, so his start at the Hyundai bodes well for this week. After a opening with a level par round in Maui things started to click and he finished with a pair of 5 under rounds and placed T9, 4th in putting and 4th in birdies suggest things are coming together nicely. Since missing 3 cuts in his first 4 starts at the Sony Open Sabbatini has compiled an impressive set of figures in recent years, in the last 6 years he has finished T13 (2011) T39 (2010 etc), T12, 2, T34, T2. After an encouraging outing in the opener he is primed to go well this week and perhaps better those two second place finishes. Chad Campbell 1pt e/w @ 66/1 Ladbrokes Last year was a deeply disappointing one for the chunky Texan, with just 1 top-10 finish and 7 top-25 places it wasn’t a good year for by the high standards he has set for himself. That disappointment should hopefully spark a renewed desire in a player who is a four time tour winner, with the lure of a Ryder Cup at the end of the year he’ll be hoping for better in 2012. In his last five starts in Hawaii he has finished T13, T8, T10, T46 and T2 so he is generally a fast starter to the year and clearly likes the course. As a native Texan Campbell is a quality player in the windy conditions that often occur in this event, he’s always been a good ball striker and is he can get his putter going he can add to his list of impressive finishes in this tournament.

  6. Re: Golf: PGA Tour 2012 - Hyundai Tournament of Champions Dipping a tentative toe in the golfing waters this week, it's difficult to know who is in Maui for a family holiday with a bit of golf tacked on and who is there for a serious crack at the tournment. As Aidy and Crouch have said though, it's probably best to stick with players with greater motivation and something to prove. Chris Kirk outright, 1pt e/w @ 40/1 Bet365 I really liked what I saw of Kirk last year, his rookie season on the main tour. Winner of the Viking Classic and with four top 10 finishes it was an outstanding rookie season, I expect him to build on that this year. It's often windy in Maui but Kirk can play in those conditions, finished T30 in the Sony Open in Hawaii last year and T2 in the Houston Open where it always blows a bit. Plenty long enough off the tee and a good ball striker he's a nice price in this small field. Scott Piercy outright, 1pt e/w @ 50/1 Bet365 Piercy is another bomber (averaged over 305 yds off the tee last year) who had a break through year winning his first tournament at the Reno Tahoe. He's an aggressive player who can go very low, he shot a 61 in Reno, he's not all about power though as he was in the top 50 in the putting stats. Given the confidence of his first win he's an attractive price on a course that could suit his game. Gary Woodland to win 2pts @ 18 Betfair I took this price yesterday but unfortunately it seems to have gone now. Kapalua is wide open off the tee and this allows the players to let rip, that should suit the big hitting Woodland down to the ground. Woodland was hugely impressive last year, after losing in playoff to J Vegas he won a few weeks later at the Transitions, contended numerous times before rounding off the year by winning the World Cup with Matt Kuchar. Woodland seems a very determined and serious young man so he should be looking for a fast start to the season.

  7. Re: Rugby Union: 2011/12 Heineken Cup London Irish -9.5 @10/11 Bet365 Been too busy at work so not had much chance to look at the games. Quite fancy Irish here though, Edinburgh blew this group wide open by beating Cardiff last night and Irish can get themselves back in it with a bonus point win. Irish came from a half time deficit to win 34-14 in the reverse fixture in France last week, that was 3 defeats out of 3 for Racing. They are out of the competition now and may well have one eye on their domestic game against Agen next Friday. French teams rarely travel well in this competition and when they have nothing to play for the heads can drop quite easily. If Irish can get in front early I think Racing may well throw in the towel. This is a huge opportunity for Irish to get themselves back in the hunt and i'm hopeful they can canter to a bonus point win.

  8. Re: NFL Week 13 Picks In my previous post the Frank Gore line is actually at Ladbrokes. I would edit my post but am using my phone and it's all proved beyond me :sad. apologies for the gibberish last line as well.

  9. Re: NFL Week 13 Picks BenJarvus Green-Ellis over 65.5 yards rushing 5/6 @ Ladbrokes The Pats have been trying to balance out their offence a bit more in the past few games, they've averaged 33 carries in the last 3 games. Tom Brady has spoken about the need to get the running game functioning more effectively and who better to do it against than the Colts dismal run defense. BJGE has been a bit hit and miss recently, 20 carries got 81 against the Chiefs followed by 14 for 44 against Philly. The Panthers ran for over 200 yards against the Colts last week and they are giving up 150 ypg overall. This game will be a stroll for the Pats and I think they may spend some time working on the running game, they are improving having averaged 107 yards per game over the last 3. BJGE should get 15-20 carries and that should be enough against such a weak defense. DeAngelo Williams over 57.5 yards rushing 10/11 @ Skybet

Problem with betting on Panthers rushing yards is you never know who is going to get the carries, Williams is the primary back though and has been averaging 5 yards per carry. He comes in to this off the back of a couple of good performances having gained 73 and 69 yards against the Lions and Colts. Overall the Buccs defense is giving up 139.7 ypg to the run but it has been way worse than that recently. Chris Johnson took them for nearly 200 yards last week and they have given up at least 177 yards in 4 of the last 5 games
I'd expect Williams to get 10-15 carries which should be enough to cover the line.

    49ers -13.5 v the Rams, 20/21 @ Skybet
Frank Gore over 89.5 yards rushing 5/6 @ Skybet

Sam Bradford is a game time decision for the Rams but with them activating the practice squad QB it looks unlikely he'll play, not that it would make much difference. The offensive line has gone missing for the Rams, Bradford is getting pounded and even the beast that is Steven Jackson can't run the ball. They won't get any respite from the 49ers who can clinch the division today. SF give up just 75ypg on the ground and it is hard to see them getting anything through the air. The Rams have a decent pass rush but little else to offer. They have the worst run defense in the entire NFL giving up 159ypg, Beanie Wells took them for over 200 yards last week and they face more of the same today. After something like 5 consecutive 100+ games Gore has struggled in the last 3, hampered by injury. That said he's had 10 days since the last game and with the incentive of becoming the 49ers all time leading rusher I think he could have a monster day. After being a bit below par in the last couple of weeks I'm expecting both Gore and the 49ers to come back to form against the hapless Rams.

All bets are 2 points stake

Sam Bradford is reportedly a game timed
  10. Re: Golf: PGA Tour 2011 - World Cup & Australian PGA Championship World Cup - Wales e/w - 33/1 William Hill The Welsh team is Rhys Davies and Jamie Donaldson, I think they make a good pairing that complement each other well. Donaldson is an excellent ball striker who finished on the winning side in the Seve Trophy a couple of months ago, that experience of foursomes and betterball should stand him in good stead. He hasn't won this year but he has been very consistent and he tends to get a lot of birdies. Partner Rhys Davies has had a quiet year but came nicely into form with a top 5 finish in Malaysia last week. He's one of the very best on tour with the flat stick and if he can get his putter hot this week then he could take the Welsh team close.

  11. Re: Rugby Union: 2011/12 Heineken Cup

Good fight back to bring it in for you with Ronan there again to make the difference. A winner is a winner. :clap
A last gasp, drop goal winner two weeks in a row, balls of steel from Ronan O'Gara :notworthy. Incredibly harsh on Castres who were the better side for large parts of the game, not that I care about that!
  12. Re: Rugby Union: 2011/12 Heineken Cup Munster to beat Castres, 6/5 @ Bet365 Castres have switched this game from their tight, intimidating home ground to Toulouse which I imagine Munster were pretty pleased about. Castres conceded over 30 points to the Scarlets last week, if they concede as many penalties this week then that Ronan O'Gara will happily boot them to defeat. Munster showed last week why they are so good in this competition, at times they were under great pressure but they kept their nerve and ground it out, the injury time drop goal win will have been a huge boost. Away wins are going to be vital to get out of this group, with Paul O'Connell leading from the front they should be able to match Castres in the pack. They kept the scoreboard ticking over nicely against a very good Northampton team last week and look to have the edge in defence over the French side that shipped over 30 points last week. I fancy Munsters ability to keep their nerve and discipline and the extra class of players like Doug Howlett will get them a crucial victory.

  13. Re: Rugby Union: 2011/12 Heineken Cup It was an immense effort from Connacht and if they can keep up that level they can make life hard for the others in this group. Quins may have been put off by Frank Murphy's moustache, I certainly was. Good win for Cardiff, looked dodgy at the start but they came back strongly and Dan Parks kept nudging them in front.

  14. Re: Rugby Union: 2011/12 Heineken Cup Taken Cardiff Blues @ 11/5 Bet365 to beat Racing Cardiff have their Welsh world cup players back tonight, Sam Warburton, Jamie Roberts, Gethin Jenkins and Bradley Davies all come in. After a good tournament in New Zealand they will be raring to go. Cardiff look a strong side with no obvious weakness and Dan Parks should keep the scoreboard ticking over. I don't know a massive amount about Racing but they are missing some big players, according to the BBC Frans Steyn, Mirco Bergamasco, Sebastien Chabal and Benjamin Sa are all out. An away game in France is never easy but the Welsh world cup players should still be on a high and raring to go after a few weeks off, with the players Racing have missing this is a big opportunity to get a crucial away win. Seeing as it's the first game I'm going to ignore the appeal of taking Cardiff +6 and go for the straight win
