  1. Re: Northern Hemisphere International Rugby Matches Well done b10111, excellent call! :clap Don't write of England just yet though, inexperience is what cost them on Saturday and a lot of the reporting on the game was not justified. I agree with you that you need to look at the neutral's take on sides and the English press have been overly harsh on the England performance! The Bokka play a brand of Rugby unlike any of the other nations, England tried to beat them physically and no one can do this. You need to play the Boks like a boxer with no knock out punch, bob and weave and win on points. England couldn't find the key to unlock the Bokka defence and reverted to their old slow & predictable huffing & puffing. Also England didn't see a great deal of the ball! b10111, I'm glad to see you think that there is a market to be had in Rugby and I agree, there are some attractive odds in Rugby and I believe there is a few quid to be made!

  2. Re: Northern Hemisphere International Rugby Matches I am glad the Rugby forum on Pl is beginning to grow, I am a massive Rugby fan and I appreciate everybody who takes the time to post their views, especially you b10111, as I have respected your views each time that you have posted. But I am afraid I am going to have to disagree with you massively on this one! This is not a good Bokka side and in reality it is second string at best and they have at least five players who would normally be on the bench! England on the other hand are arguably at full strength and playing with fire in their bellies. England are an improving side, with the likes of Hartley, Lawes, Cole, Youngs, Ashton & Foden all now staking their claim on the world stage and making England a team for the future. Yes, we should not get carried away but who is the last team to beat Australia twice? Only the All Blacks! I live & work very close to Twickenham and we never suffer from the cold in this area but there is currently a tent covering the pitch at Twickenham so they can play tomorrow, will the Bokka fancy a game in sub zero temps when it is currently the start of summer back home? Yes, they are pro's but they lost last week to Dan Parks in a cold Edinburgh and Scotland do not beat many these days, due to lack of try scoring yet they still beat the Bokka! It will be close to begin with but England are on the up and the Bokka are here after losing their softest game on tour, I know who I fancy and I am the biggest pessimist I know!

  3. Re: Leicester Tigers vs Wallabies Apologies for the late post! Not one to get to stuck into but it looks like Leicester have come to party! By picking a good looking set of forwards, the Aussies will certainly get some scrummage practice, whether they like it or not! Leicester's defence has not been brilliant (by their own high standards) and the weather will certainly play its part, one to enjoy me thinks! Good luck everyone! Weather not that bad & Aussies looking pretty good with ball in hand!

  4. Re: Rugby Union 29th-31st Toulouse v Toulon Key players missing for Toulon and Toulouse have rejected French internationals, David Skrela, Vincent Clerc, Louis Picamoles and Clément Poitrenaud in their side, means Toulon face an uphill struggle! I expect a similar result to last weeks win over Perpignan (38-29) for Toulouse, maybe not as high scoring. Toulouse winning margin 6-10 & 11-15

    Stade Toulousain44 - 5Toulon
:puke Clermont v Stade Francais Clermont have not lost at home this season & have scored plenty of tries as well, Montpellier have the best record against them only losing by 17 points (27-10)! Stade on the other hand have improved away from home as the season has gone on. Expect a big game from Stade's Mathieu Bastareaud, who Marc Lièvremont reckons is too fat for Test rugby. Clermont should still win but I'll take it to be closer than most people think it will be. Clermont winning margin 6-10 & 11-15
    Clermont27 - 3Stade Francais
Not a good start! :cry Gloucester v Leicester I like the look of the straight win for Gloucester @ 11/10, much improved and in front of the shed, should see Gloucester past the Tigers. Leicester have an issue at scrum half due to injuries and they rely on a loan player at scrum half, called Jason Spice among the replacements. Leicester defensively this season have not looked at their best this season, especially away from home. Gloucester win 11/10 & winning points difference 1-5 & 6-10.
    Gloucester19 - 12Leicester Tigers
I love Gloucester! :clap Harlequins v Bath Similar thoughts to the Gloucester result, straight win for Quins @ evens is fairly attractive. Quins are a tricky side at home only losing once this season to Northampton, at the Stoop. Quins are very good at starving the opposition of the ball, their defence is pretty solid and with this in mind they should counter the attacking rugby of Bath. Bath have only won once away from home this season and that was against Leeds on the opening day of the season! Harlequins win evens & winning points margin 1-5 & 6-10
    Harlequins6 - 6 (0 - 3) Bath
:\ Good luck everyone however you bet!
  5. Re: Rugby Union 29th-31st Hi homercleese, Racing 1-10 with Paddy Power only 6/4, so you could be right on the pummelling front! But maybe it is just a good call by the Bookies as I do not see much in th result for this game. I hate to say it but you are right about the Munster game, they may well prove too strong for the Ulstermen tonight.

  6. Re: Rugby Union 29th-31st Not an easy set of fixtures to predict this Friday, I'll certainly not be going over the top with the £'s, but here goes anyway! Scarlets v Glasgow Scarlets have come out of the first set of European games in slightly better shape than Glasgow & especially after their win against Cardiff last week. Glasgows last trip to the valleys ended in a 12 point loss to the Dragons. Scarlets are missing Stephen Jones & Ceri Sweeney, so this may impact on their points scoring ability and Glasgow also have a fairly good record against the Scarlets. Taking all of this into account I'll go for the winning points difference of 1-5 & 6-10, in favour of the Scarlets. Racing v Perpignan Perpignan came second in an absolute classic game of Rugby, away at Toulouse last week & everything depends on how they comeback from that game. I believe they have the ability to make this a close game & Racing have begun to stutter recently after a great start. I have not been able to find any team news yet, so I am a little blind as to what to predict, but no excuses & here goes! Racing to win but it will be tight - winning margin 1-5 & 6-10. :hope

  7. Re: Should he stay or should he go ?

He says that he can put one hat on when he's at the BHA and another hat when he's at his investment company.........that doesn't really wash, does it ?/QUOTE] If you believe this you will believe anything! I am sure this statement was made in an honest manner but human nature being what it is, there has to be a clash of interests at some point & its only human to favour ones own pocket! He has to go I'm afraid, regardless of how good he is at his job.
  8. Re: Drill Sargeant Not wishing to detract from Mr McCoy either! I thought the horse pulled its way to the front after stopping rather than being urged and I felt the horse got to the front too soon for Tony McCoy. But there is no one better at urging a horse home and Mr McCoy did ride out his customary classy finish! It was a joy to watch, as you can imagine all those layers must have gone through a roller coaster of emotions, in complete contrast to the backers! :lol

  9. Re: Rugby Union 22nd-24th

went to look at the bookies this morning, and NOT ONE F**KING ONE OF THEM HAD MY WINNING MARGINS 1-12 POINTS. Not WillHill, not StanJames, not betpack....didnt even think to do the 1-10's. My god, im gonna vomit, i always do a 40 euro trixie for france.
Hi Homer, sorry to hear your bad news! The only reason that I can think of and I suffered this but only slightly this week, is that the Rugby markets don't stand up to too much money being laid on them. Take Edinburgh v Ulster, when I posted on Thursday it was -4, against Edinburgh & when I went to place my bet on Friday, The handicap had gone out to -6! This is the first week I have not posted all the handicaps, but if memory serves me correctly the games you mentioned, their handicaps would have been around 8-12 points against the home sides and so I am guessing the bookies corrected their markets to reflect this and possibly the bets being placed. I think the moral of this story, for both of us, is to get on earlier! :ok Chin up & lets get ready to rumble next week! PS. I am leaving tomorrows games well alone, as I can see Wasps potentially upsetting Northampton & I am not at all sure what will happen north of the border!
  10. Re: Rugby Union 22nd-24th Leicester 21 - 15 Bath Closer than I would have liked & very squeaky bottom in the closing minutes! Lost out on the handicap but more than made up for it with the 6 point winning margin. :clap Toulouse 38 - 29 Perpignan No report on this match yet but just got in for the winning margin of 9. :clap

  11. Re: Rugby Union 22nd-24th Toulouse v Perpignan Toulouse home record is formidable to say the least and this game will see two sets of forwards go toe to toe, to see who is argueably the best in France! Perpignan have continued to improve both home & away, as the season has progressed & the +8 start on the handicap is quite tempting. My only worry about Perpignan is that, apart from Bayonne (who have since slipped away), they are yet to play any of the big teams away from home yet! Toulouse should win as they probably have the edge in the back line but it will be close! Toulouse winning margin 1-5 & 6-10

  12. Re: Rugby Union 22nd-24th Leicester v Bath Not too much strong form to go on here, Leicester have only played Exeter & Leeds at home so far this season, winning both. Leicester nearly came unstuck against Exeter but still managed a ten point winning margin (37-27). Bath have played Leeds away and Northampton, where they got thumped 31-10 and their record in the last four games in all comps is P4 W2 L2. Leicester h'cap -8 winning points margin 6-10 & 11-15

  13. Re: Rugby Union 22nd-24th Friday, 22 October 2010 Aviva Premiership Rugby Leeds Carnegie 3-6 Sale Newcastle 13-15 Saracens The Championship Worcester 21-23 Cornish Pirates The Magners League Cardiff Blues 10-16 Scarlets Edinburgh 21-16 Ulster Munster 39-13 Benetton Treviso

Saracens snatch a win late into injury time, but not by enough for me & I cannot wait to read the report on this one! Edinburgh almost covered the handicap, but I hope people took my advice and avoided what sounded like a shocker at Leeds. :)

  15. Re: Rugby Union: Heineken Cup & Amlin Challenge 14th-17th Wasps v Glasgow Not sure what to make of this fixture, before last weekend I would have said Wasps would get rolled against Toulouse but they nearly won! Glasgow won at home beating the Dragons which was only to be expected. This is a match between two sides who do not seem to be able to play to the same standards twice in a row! Glasgow starting off the Magners by beating Leinster at home, which now look a great result & then they can just scrape a home win against Connacht, Wasps on the other hand can lose away at Newcastle then beat Sale away! Perpignan v Treviso Perpignan are unbeaten at home this season and have played most of the Top 14 big guns in achieving this. Treviso are no longer the whipping boys and have continued to build on their improving results from last season but against the bigger teams, away from home they struggle. Leicester v Scarlets Leicester although still strong have leaked tries in defence this season but lucky for them they still continue to score plenty. Scarlets also showed last week that they can score tries & not rely on the boot of Stephen Jones, some of their handling last week was breath taking! Leicester's defence concerns me in this game but I am sure they will still win. Biarritz v Ulster Good starts made by both teams last week, Ulster have played well away from home in the Magners but that was a win at Aironi & a draw in Connacht! Biarritz have started to improve as the season has gone on, winning their local derby at Bourgoin in their last game. Leeds v Stade Francais Leeds by last seasons standards are aweful, Stade are full of internationals and players fighting for their spot in the first fifteen. Cannot see much past an away win! Bets Handicaps: Scarlets +12, Ulster +11 & Stade -8

  16. Re: Rugby Union: Heineken Cup & Amlin Challenge 14th-17th Amlin Challenge Too many large handicaps here to look at seriously, La Rochelle at home to Agen, should cover the -7 handicap in the battle of the Top 14 minnows. Harlequins make several changes to their line up today but should still prove too stong for Cavalieri Prato but the -32 handicap is hard to fancy. It is achievable as I cannot see the italians getting much of the ball, but they did cause an upset at home to Connacht last week and so must be respected! However the reports that I read about this game seem to point towards Connacht being the masters of their own downfall, with handling errors and poor set piece rather than Italian mastery! La Rochelle -7 and winnign points margin 1-5 & 6-10

  17. Re: Rugby Union: Heineken Cup & Amlin Challenge 14th-17th Edinburgh v Northampton A tough call this one, as Edinburgh are a tough side at home and they have only lost once at home this season to Munster. On that day their pack got bullied by a physical Munster pack and you must think that Northampton will have to be the same today if they are to prevail. Chris Paterson will again be relied upon by Edinburgh to kick lots of points, so Northampton will have to try and keep their penalty count down. Tim Visser is Edinburgh's main try scoring threat, he will be marked by Chris Ashton and this should make for a good contest. This game could go either way but it will be a close game so I will go for a 1-5 points winning margin for both sides & even a little bet on the handicap draw at 18/1. Just spotted Paddy Power offer First scoring points Edinburgh Penalty 9/5 with Chris Patterson in the side this could be a nice start to the game! Result 27-31 (Paterson scored the first point with a penalty as well, added this late apologies but it was a late spot!) Aironi v Bath A must win for a currently under performing Bath team, I believe they will win but Aironi are not whipping boys at home. Although they have been beaten twice at home in the Magners League, it has not been by much 9-10 to Edinburgh & 15-22 to Ulster. In their game last week away at Ulster, they kept it close until half time & then folded after losing a player to the sin bin in the last ten minutes. Aironi +10 to cover the handicap for me! 6-22 (Bath turned up! :wall) Racing-Métro v Clermont The sides have already met once this season, in the Top 14 when an under-strength Clermont side lost 28-17 in Paris. Both sides have injury concerns and for this reason I am going to give this one a miss but Racing should win and cover the -6 handicap. 16-9 Munster v Toulon Which Toulon side will turn up! After a lacklustre win at home to the Ospreys, Toulon give Jonny Wilkinson a rest and replace him with Felipe Contepomi, who will no doubt get a warm welcome from the Munster fans after his time at Leinster! A lot of people are beginning to write off Munster, this is a dangerous thing as their late try last week away at London Irish proved. These boys do not like losing, today I believe the loss is not an option for them and their European pedigree will see them through, as Toulon will have to be ready for a battle from the off! Munster to beat the -9 handicap. 45-18 (Munster just squeezed past the handicap ;)) Dragons v Toulouse The Dragons tend to only lose to the bigger clubs at home in the Magners league and you must think Toulouse fit this description, however Toulouse do not tend to win by much away from home, when they do! Bit in fairness Toulouse are dripping in class players, the Dragons will huff & puff but will fold eventually and this is probably Toulouse easiest away fixture so far this season. Toulouse winning margins 6-10 & 11-15 19-42 (Toulouse did what I secretly feared they might & thumped the Dragons! :wall) Saracens v Leinster This game is at Wembley Stadium and so far 50,000 are expected! This should be a real spectacle of Rugby, Saracens are a good open Rugby side and Leinster are too. Leinster have impressed me, their win last week was breathtaking and for me they are the only team outside of France with a real chance of lifting this trophy at the moment! This game could go either way, Leinster have the pedigree to cause an upset but Saracens do have quality players in their line up, who are used to the big occasion and their win at home against Northampton (24-17) earlier in the season proved this. I cannot see a winning angle on this game and this will be one to watch rather than take a financial interest in for me. 25-23 (What a game, glad I was only watching with no financial interest!)

  19. Re: Rugby Union: Heineken Cup & Amlin Challenge 14th-17th Hi Kev, Apologies, on reflection I am slightly show boating & it won't happen again!:spank But I did get a bit lost in the bookies sweet offerings, there was so much to choose from! If you look at tomorrows Castres v Cardiff game they have priced this the same as tonights match, which is just plain crazy! The difference between tonights teams, Montpellier 2nd of 14 & Newcastle 11th of 12 compared to Castres 10th of 14 & Cardiff 2nd of 12!

  20. Re: Rugby Union: Heineken Cup & Amlin Challenge 14th-17th Ospreys v London Irish Good win for Irish at home last weekend against Munster and a slightly unlucky loss for the Ospreys at Toulon. Ospreys are favorites and rightly so, they have a good european pedigree compared with that of London Irish, but the Irish do have a lot of attacking flair. We should all expect a high scoring affair, as both teams score a lot of tries in their respective competitions and I am sure the Irish will not be put offby the lively home crowd. If the Irish are to be considered as serious contenders in this competition then they have to come away with at least a losing bonus point. Two bets for me Ospreys to win between 1-10pts and London Irish +11.5 @13/8 skybet. Castres v Cardiff Castres have not lost at home in the Top 14 this season, beating Toulouse by 6, Bayonne by 9 & Racing by 6. They are no pushovers as they proved away last week at Northampton and they have brought back in several front line players for this game. Cardiff had troubles in the set piece last week and they can ill afford to have those troubles against Castres The handicap is -5 against Castres and is probably about right on current form, so I would look at backing the points difference of 1-5 & 6-10 in favour of the home side. Bourgoin v Exeter Chiefs The first-choice half-backs Michaël Forest and Sébastien Laloo are back in the starting 15 at 9 and 10 respectively and this should point towards Bourgoins intentions for this game. Although Bourgoin have not been setting the Top 14 alight this season, they did defeat Biarritz (Bath's conquerers last week) in their last home game and against lesser opposition -7 should be achievable. Connacht v Bayonne This could be the game to watch, as Connacht must win after a shock defeat last week and Bayonne look to cement their position at the top of this pool. Bayonne have rotated their squad but it still doesn't look bad on paper with Sebastien Fauque taking over at fly-half & Rémy Martin coming into the back row. Bayonne have stuttered of late after a good start to the Top 14, so they will look to carry on after their win against Harlequins last week. This is a tough call but I think this is the one game which could go with the away team on Friday evening. Bayonne to win 6/4
