Pontefract 19th April

3.10 Pontefract Tricky looking 6f race, hard to find any draw bias just a slight bias to low numbers and it is interesting that I can find 4 possible front runners 2 drawn high 2 drawn low which could well make this a fair race, you have got Marine Boy and Thebes drawn low and Courageous and Bel Cantor drawn high. I have wittled the field down to 3 and going for win only because of the competitive field and also only 3 places because only 15runners. Thebes came back from his winter break well winning his second start off a mark of 89 since then put another good effort up in defeat but was unable to dominate last time and failed on hold up tactics, this mark hasnt looked beyond him before although he will need a career best but Detori is the sort that can bring out a career best and drawn low in stall 3. Hotham has won 8 times and 4 of those have come round here out of 8 starts and shaped extremely well on seasonal appearance at doncaster when 5th in valuable handicap runs off same mark today and ground conditions more suitable today and useful Lane takes the ride claiming 3lb. And finally Go Go Green is 3 from 3 round here and was still improving when last seen as last run can be forgotten as that was on aw and yet to show he can act on surface but penultimate start came over this course winning easily and a 7lb raise might not be enough if ready to go, never run well fresh though. 0.5pt win Hotham 6/1 bet365 0.25pt win Thebes 10/1 bet365 0.25pt win Go Go Green 8/1 bet365 3.40 Pontefract Wow a typical Ponte stayers event- piss poor. One thing for sure Dan Buoy cannot be touched and is my lay for the day, he is so unconsistent beaten 82lengths before winning last time when showing a good attitude again has failed to ever land back to back success's before. Born to perform is another interesting runner but has to prove he stays this far but is lightly raced and progressed nicely when plugging on for second on seasonal appearance last time out up 4lb for that effort though looks a little harsh. Therefore I am gonna take a chance on Pocket Two bouncing back to form he stays this far and more probably a real stayer and is now starting to plummet in the weights on the back of some disappointing efforts little more signs last time out although didnt get involved in business end but step up in trip might help that and also swithc to turf may offer more having run some better races over hurdles recently, last won off a mark 12lb higher!! 0.25pt e/w pocket two 4.40 Pontefract Another fascinating handicap got a shortlist of 3, Chears for Thea has to be of interest although major concern she could be plenty short enough in the market after a win at wolverhampton a month ago in a strong looking race BUT having said that her turf form lags well behind and appears to be a bit of a Wolves specialist but she does race off a 6lb lower mark than her win at Wolves and for that reason has to be of interest and also best turf form has come over this testing course. Brushing is probably one the least exposed runners in the field and was a shock 50/1 winner of yarmouth maiden and was mid div on handicap debut, bounced back to best again when second on reappearance last week will be interesting to see how he gets on on quicker ground. And finally Wisemans Diamond, improved out of recognition last summer and will appreciate the run under his belt and quicker ground today, Callan an eye catching booking and won here on penultimate start. 0.5pt e/w wisemans diamond 0.25pt win cheers for thea 0.25pt win Brushing

Re: Pontefract 19th April Posting this as might not have time tomorrow. 17:15 Apprentice races are always risky as a betting proposition but Andorn looks a decent selection which will be a fairly nice price. German import who showed little in his own country, and looked to be going a similar way here before a gutsy run at Ripon on quick ground last year off a mark of 63. In that race beat a horse who is now rated 88 (but let's not read too much into that). Had a couple of promising runs over further before switching to the hurdles. Showed a little promise in that spectrum before some disappointing performances which probably has prompted this switch back. Races off 59 and apprentice takes off 5. Has had a few months off and will definitely prefer the quicker ground. EW 0.5pt EW @ SP
