Newbury - Sat 6th March

Recommended Posts

2.35 Newbury This 0-145 veterans handicap forms part of a trappy looking Scoop Six for punters but from a shortlist of Trabolgan, Gone to Lunch, Ellerslie George and BRIERY FOX, the last named is suggested as the winner. Trabolgan was a classy sort in his heyday, winning the RSA and Hennessy in 2005 before injuries struck, but he has made just four runs since and despite shaping encouragingly before unseating his rider at Doncaster last time out, he looks plenty short enough here at 15/8 and looks one to take on. Gone to Lunch is likely to be using this race as a stepping stone for the Grand National and was a credible fifth at this track in the Hennessy. He looks well handicapped but has failed to build upon that run and looks best watched for the time being. Eric's Charm hacked up in the London National when last seen but it is a slight concern that most of his wins have come racing right-handed and with Dom D'orgeval and Bob Bob Bobbin badly out of form and Knowhere demonstrating less-than-polished jumping, Ellerslie George and Brierty Fox look the pair to focus on. The former won the Badger Ales Trophy on his penultimate start and if his latest run at Ascot can be overlooked then he looks to have chances, especially since his strong Wetherby form hints he may meet the demands of this track. Nevertheless, he is almost a stone higher than his Wincanton success and at the weights, Brierty Fox looks the better handicapped horse of the pair. Henry Daly's charge has slipped back down to a mark of 126, off which he was successful at Ascot last March, and having finished second in the 2008 renewal of this contest on similar ground, he looks to have conditions in his favour here. After performing credibly at Doncaster last month and with the yard amongst the winners this week, the twelve year old has plenty in his favour and is put forward as the value bet in the race. 6/1 Bet 365.

Re: Newbury - Sat 6th March 2.35 A win bet on BRIERY FOX 6/1 WIN who looks to be coming into form and looks to have strong claims in this old timers race and 6's is a good price imo. 3.45 Im on ARCTIC WINGS E/W at 11's has shortened already to 8's. Is a CD winner here and although hasn't been at best this season i think has very strong claims in this. Decent mark decent claimer on top and a lot in the horses favour today. A big e/w bet for me.
