Are the nerves tangling? Are we watching the weather hoping for decent ground? have we stashed some money away to bet with !! Personally cant wait and hope that the Cheltenham sub forum is used as much as possible for analysis of each race, personally i should have all the graded races trends completed by next Sunday. Hoping to go to the Newbury Cheltenham Preview run by Ginge's racing club on 10th March. Alex also going so if anyone wants a good night for a fiver and get an insight into the great minds of the racing fraternity, come along. It lasts about 1.5hrs. :ok

Re: 2 weeks to go!

Are the nerves tangling?
Is that a mix of jangling and tingling? :D This is the first year I've had any ante-post bets, albeit just a few little lucky 15s tilting at windmills, so looking forward to see how they do. But it's the occasion over the gambling for me - can't wait!

Re: 2 weeks to go! BACK PIPE VETERAN FOR FESTIVAL VIC-TORY William Hill Trophy - Ante-Post Bet With Bet 365 announcing at the weekend that they are offering non-runner no bet terms on all Festival markets, now seems the best time to strike and back OUR VIC for the William Hill Trophy on the opening day. David Pipe's veteran has enjoyed a mini revival this term which has left his trainer with options aplenty for next month. Indeed, the twelve year old currently holds entries in four races (William Hill Trophy on Tuesday and Pertemps Hurdle, Ryanair and the Bryne Plate on Thursday). However, he has caught the eye over fences on his last two starts and it would be considered a backwards step if he were to contest the Pertemps. The Ryanair looks a rather ambitious entry even though he won the race two years ago, as his days at the highest level, that also included a nose beating of Kauto Star in the 2008 Totesport Bowl, look numbered. More realistic targets appear to the two handicap chases, and having impressed over 3m+ in recent months, Pipe may well opt for the 3m rather than 2m 5f route for a horse he once believed had the stamina to see out four miles. He actually started his season over shorter in the Paddypower Gold Cup when running credibly from the front but weakening two out, when his heavy weight burden told against less exposed types such as Tranquil Sea and Poquelin, two of those that beat him home and head to Cheltenham as ante-post market leaders for the Grade 1 Ryanair. Nevertheless, he built upon that run when beating the progressive Miss Mitch (fancied for the Racing Post Chase last weekend before being withdrawn after being found lame) at Warwick and he never got chance to test himself in the Boylesports Gold Cup returned to Cheltenham when his inexperienced pilot opted to take the wrong course after the third. The King George was always going to be a tough assignment thereafter, but back in handicaps, he made his class tell in the Peter Marsh Chase with a superb performance off a big weight, staying on gamely to fend off Palypso de Creek for his second win of the season. His last outing again came at Haydock, when second in the Blue Square Gold Cup, but he was outstayed by a less exposed rival, Grand National possible Silver By Nature. Bearing in mind his apparent stamina limitations, the drop back to three miles for the William Hill Trophy looks set to suit, and the handicapper has cut his rating 1 lb to 157, still only 5 lb higher than when a convincing winner at Haydock in January. Even if Pipe does send him to the Bryne Plate, backing with Bet 365 would ensure all stakes are refunded as part of the NRNB terms, and at 16/1 it is worth chancing that this Pond House stalwart takes his place in the William Hill Trophy and lands a fourth course win. Suggested bet: Our Vic 16/1 Bet 365 (NRNB), 0.75 pt win/0.25 pt place (4 places, 1/4 odds).

Re: 2 weeks to go! Just seen on the Racing Post website that Paddy Power have said they will return all losing Single bets and the Win part of E/W Singles if Dunguib wins the Supreme Novices Hurdle as hes expected to. I wonder if they have thought this through as the shorter the price is of Dunguib , the more likely is that every horse can be backed and a profit made, so if Dunguib starts at 1/2 that will be 67% out of the market. They havent said whether any Stake Restrictions will be made, anyone live near a PP shop. :cash

Newbury's Cheltenham Preview Night is on 10th March @ 8:00pm. Get there early for a good seat. Panelists include Tanya Stevenson and ex Daily Telegraph correspondent Tony Stafford (racing advisor to Punjabi's owner). As Bowles says only £5. See you there. :ok

Re: 2 weeks to go! I was just remembering my last year stay at Cheltenham during the weekend watching some of the races and suddenly i saw an ant version of myslef on racinguk tvbroadcast :) Hope that next year will have time to schedule a trip to Cheltenham or maybe Aintry for GN. Guinness sector was full maxed last year and sometimes you must wait for 10 minutes for a beer :) I had one nice place to brought some beers. On the entrance to grandstands there was a covered Tote bookshop with a lot of monitors and very fast beer guys :) gold_cup1_d7bdb_21860229.jpg

Re: 2 weeks to go! Is it really jam-packed on fri then as last year Wednesday I could easily get a pint of Guinness no problem in their tent. I think weds or thurs are the best days to go, big crowds seem to go tues & fri. Saw darts ref George Noble in Guinness tent as well! Love doing the placepots becuase the dividend is always big at the Festival, I aint done a placepot in ages but I sure will all 4 days!!

Re: 2 weeks to go! updated 8 days to go! jesus, 8 days & 26 races to write up, its going to be some week ! I mean this week, so much to do so little time. Might have to use the wee small hours to get some of the races done. The tension is unbearable isn 't it. I've got our pre cheltenham golf day on Friday as well which i am looking forward to, especially my after dinner speech on Cheltenham :puke must get the RP ordered for next week and pick up the RFO & Weekender this week!! Both papers are excellent reading material for the festival

Re: 2 weeks to go! updated 8 days to go! I used to totally ignore this code of racing up until last year, so this is the first time I am genuinely excited and ready (ante-post bets have been placed) for Cheltenham. The general plan is to leave it to the ante-post bets to do the business, but no doubt on the day I'll be having a crack at each and every race.

Re: 2 weeks to go! updated 8 days to go! SHINING HALO CAN LIGHT UP CHAMPION HURDLE Champion Hurdle - Ante-Post Preview The Champion Hurdle promises to be one of the most interesting races of the festival with a number of twists and turns helping shape a volatile ante-post market. Solwhit is the latest doubtful runner having scoped badly this morning, and antibiotics will be administered until Thursday in a bid to get his big race preparations back on track. Phillip Fenton insists Dunguib is set for the Supreme Novices Hurdle and will be withdrawn from this race at Wednesday's confirmation stage and there is no guarantee of Binocular's well being after his well publicised injury troubles. With the value on Go Native, Khyber Kim and Punjabi seemingly gone, CELESTIAL HALO looks to be the one to be on. Paul Nicholls' son of Gaileo has suffered several set backs this season but showed he retains his ability when winning at Wincanton on his reappearance. The form of that race has been boosted several times by Mamlook (second), the recently-retired Whiteoak (third) and Marodima (fourth) and although two disappointing efforts subsequently help explain his Champion Hurdle price, both Nicholls and Ruby Walsh feel as though he will improve for the better ground next week. There is no denying Celestial Halo is a class act when on song. The 2008 Triumph Winner has never finished out of the first two at Prestbury Park and was defeated by less than a length in a thrilling Champion Hurdle last year when edged out by Punjabi. The question that remains to be answered is whether Nicholls can bring him back to his best, but looking at the recent progression of the rest of the yard reveals the six-year-old could not hope to be in better hands. Nicholls' talents are sometimes taken for granted. The four-time Champion trainer houses five of the top ten jumpers in the world at his Dicheat stable and his domination of the domestic scene is something the racing public have come to expect. Nevertheless, trainers such as Nicholls do not earn their place at the top of the ladder without hard work, and the ability to overcome setbacks is another prerequisite. Nicholls has repeatedly shown this season that resilience is one of the characteristics that makes his team the best. Denman is perhaps the most obvious example. An impressive winner of the 2008 Gold Cup, his career progression stalled when he was diagnosed with a heart murmur. Many questioned whether the horse would recover to mix it up with the elite again, but Nicholls brought him back to his brilliant best to land the Hennessy on his reappearance in November. Master Minded was turned over at 4/7 on his November reappearance around Cheltenham but has since bounced back by landing a Newbury Grade 2 and Tricky Trickster, who currently shares favouritism for this years Grand National, was similarly beaten at 4/7, in a novices hurdle at Fontwell, before gaining compensation in the shape of the Grade 2 Aon Chase, also at Newbury. Taranis and Big Fella Thanks are just two others that have ran below form but been brought back to form by their excellent handler this season, suggesting only the foolish write off a Paul Nicholls runner and that the 14/1 currently on offer with Ladbrokes is on the generous side for this Cheltenham specialist who will appreciate faster ground than he has encountered during his trial runs. 14/1 Ladbrokes, 1 pt win
