16:25 Southwell - MANNLICHEN In what is a decent looking race I can't resist having a small bet on MANNLICHEN who is a horse I'm sure entered quite a few peoples notebooks after a very encouraging run returning from a long lay off at Wolverhampton last time out. The selection looked as if he wasn't fully primed for his comeback and will definitely improve for the run, he hung left when off the bridle which is a slight concern but he stayed on really well towards the business end of the race and wasn't really given a tough ride by Joe Fanning. They didn't go a strong gallop at all that day and with horses such as Eseej and Lucky Punt in the race today likely to be vying for the lead, a strongly run race and an extra two furlongs can only enhance the chances of this horse. WIN.

There can’t be many times that horses that have won what Wise Dennis has won run at Southwell. His last three runs though had a total of 42 runners – and the selection has managed, in total, to beat only one of them. Prima facie not a great recommendation – not a great recommendation on any basis – but if the horse retains half of its old ability it looks a potential good thing here. Of course the horse could simply have thrown in the towel – in which case no matter how low you go it is unlikely to win – but it is from a good yard who would not, knowingly, flog a totally bad horse so on that basis – and at the price – it is worth a minimum stakes interest.
