3.00 Plumpton Probably the most fascinating race today from a PL DHRC view! The favourite is a warm order and is rightly so having contested the Triumph Hurdle and previously battering a similar type field on it's only other race. However with a 9 runner field and a very short price favourite there comes a degree of value for the places especially when there is an oportunity to dutch and end up with the possibility of 2 decent place priced horses! Looking through the field and I must admit the favourite is so by means of its current form, but at the silly odds and noticing that it is not a fluent jumper, I feel it's worthy of taking on! 2nd Favourite is Rock N Roller from the in form George Moore stable. This one has only raced one time over obstacles and was comfortably beaten in a vey hot class1 race by Trenchant. There were some decent animals in that race: Ainama, Conflictofinterest, Alfie Flits & Dee Ee Williams. Punching above its weight was pretty obvious but Moore is a shrewd handler and must have thought something about this animal and it's main rival here Tyrrells Wood may have a fight on it's hands. Judging by the way Tyrrells Wood has jumped so far if Rock N Roller can take it to the favourite then it could easily make a costly error and fall. Rock N Roller was a decent enough handicapper on the flat and not far off the same sort of ability shown by the favourite! At a price where we have the possibility of a surprise and if not then gaining our money back by filling a minor placing I feel it is worth a shot! Rock N Roller @6.00 EW Paddypower The rest of the field does not inspire confidence on 1st looking and here we have an opportunity to gain a bigger priced place! They generally go 12/1 bar the first 2 at the head of the market and the one I like who has shown a modicum of ability and showing it's ability to stay this type of trip and on the ground is Quartz De Montcaeu. This horse is french bred and they generally have an advantage over Irish and British trained horses in that they go over obstacles at a young age. It has been going over the larger obstacles for Milton Harris and has showed ability in that sphere filling the runner up spot behind Vibe over 2m 2f on good ground at Fontwell in November only being collared late on. It also showed ability finishing 3rd to a Jonjo O'Neill horse the time before in October on good ground over 3m 1/2f. It's last run over hurdles I feel being pulled up is owed into a loss of confidence. A change of stables to Miss Newton-Smith who is adept at getting the best from other stables cast offs can see it in a different light and it is has the best form to my mind of the contingent outside the first 2 in the betting.
