BBOTD 4th April

14:15 Aintree - Kalahari King 1pt win I did not like Tatenen for the Arkle and I cannot be having him either and the one who I think will take the beating is Ferdy Murphy's Kalahari King. He arrives here in good form having only been beating a short head in the Arkle, As I mentioned I did not think Tatenen even if he stayed on his feet would have come close to winning the Arkle so I think he has the beating of him here and I also think he should be to good for the rest. KK was slightly unlucky not to win the Arkle and if ridden a bit differently that day he just might of, I rate Graham Lee as a jockey but I do not think that was one of his best rides, however he can make amends here.

Re: BBOTD 4th April My nap of the day ''HIMALAYAN TRAIL'' e/w bet this horse was sold and bought for this race, has won the midlands nat so has done the 4m mark, i think in its last 2 runs they were getting the rust away and given a freshen up if its up around the front with 3/4 to jump he takes the race. T-C Nap HIMALAYAN TRAIL for the big one.

Re: BBOTD 4th April Lingfield 2.10 Mutamared has been in great form at lingfield and throughout the whole year, last time out was held up too much and recieves a 1lb deduction in handicap for dodgy performance, hopefully will make improvements today. 1pt e/w mutamared

Re: BBOTD 4th April 405 Chepstow : Mango Catcher Keeping away from the national as its very open and looking at a fair Chepstow meeting, backed Mango Catcher last time at Donny and he ran really well without looking like winning to be honest. Lesser opposition, better conditions and absolutely no reason why he cant win this race again like he did last year.

Re: BBOTD 4th April 325 Aintree - According to John - each way - BANKER PLEASE :ok His 3rd behind Denman and Snowy Morning in the 2007 RSA is impressive and his trainer Richards was bullish in one of the recent preview nights about his chances at <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Cheltenham but he didn’t make the cut. He needs a good pace, his reappearance was good enough and is potentially very well treated off a mark of only 134.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Re: BBOTD 4th April 2.45 Lingfield Class 2 handicap over 1m4f here with just the 9 runners taking each other on but a nice race with a real quality value bet. 4 of these runners are at single figure prices and all are opposable. The likely fav, Distinctive Image, has lots on its plate to win here, I think. Has some great form figures and isn't raised for its lto run when nose 2nd to Sgt Schultz. However that was a muddling heat and a Class 3. This looks a much hotter heat. Carlton Cannes has never raced in a Class 2 and similarly, has not won in its last 3 handicaps, yet is raised 5lbs on its last effort last term. Hunting Country is another up in grade and may just need this run, its first this term. Sgt Schultz, the horse that beat Distinctive Image lto, loves the track but has never won in this grade and, although it will run its race, I can't see it winning. All these negatives above make me quietly confident on my selection which is: Grande Caiman (12/1 Ladbrokes) - Top weight here but deservedly so for this classy type. I honestly can't believe the price on this horse, it looks to have all the credentials to take this. Admittedly, this is another horse that has never got its nose in front in a Class 2 but a few near misses and its form goes far deeper. Looking at its latest AW runs, won here in December off 93 in Class 3 before falling that up with another win at the ill fated Great Leighs off 99. Raised then to a career high 104 and ran a cracking race in this grade to finish half length 2nd in this class over this C&D. Had a break since and then finished plumb last at Kempton when being unsuitably held up. Races off a 1lb lower mark (103) today but with the jockey taking a valuable 3lbs, it brings it down to around its last winning mark. Only Hunting Country is capable of taking this horse on for the lead, so there may be a steady pace on here allowing those at the front to nick this off the home turn. Many of its rivals will be finishing fast but may not get there. The other huge positive here is this horses' record at the track, 5 wins and 2 2nd's from 7 starts, and has never been beaten more than half a length. That is a course specialist! With those stats and the horse in good heart, I make this a really super EW bet today at massive odds of 12/1. EW (Super Nap)

Re: BBOTD 4th April 3.25 Aintree Aimigayle ew Very consistent type over both fences and hurdles. Distance and ground will suit. Needs to show some improvement but Suzy Smith will have her well primed for today and with Colin Bolger doing the stearing will go close.

Re: BBOTD 4th April Ain 4.15 Butlers Cabin 1 pt e.w (bbotm) Im slightly torn as to if this is well handicapped or not. Officially the handicapper will have him on a much lower weight today if he could. Yet he is running of the same mark as last year when he was still going very well still before falling second time at beechers. Still a fair way out that day but judging by the fact he is a former IN/ chelt 4m winner, he was unlikely to fail on part of stamina. Unlike horses who did go on last year like COD or SM he is not faced with 10+ pound extra today and for me with a clear round I think he will be ahead of them today. Horses who have fallen in this race before can come back and win as has been proven before and BC could be similar. Lto he showed up quite well over an inadequate trip and that encouraged, he didn’t show anything before last years race for example. I like Darkness and Irish invader too but BC also comes into the mix.

Re: BBOTD 4th April 1.45 Aintree. Cape Tribulation. Cape Tribulation ran a creditable 3rd behind Honest John in the John Smiths Open NHF race at this meeting last year.He went on to win his first hurdle race at Uttoxeter in November 2008.He then followed this up with a 17 length beating of Junior in January 2009 at Doncaster over 25 furlongs in a Class 1 Grade 2 Novice Hurdle.Last seen at Cheltenham where he finished 5th,10 lengths adrift of Weapons Amnesty.Hopefully he can progress and win today. 1 pt win.

Re: BBOTD 4th April 250 AINTREE - Fiveforthree 1PT WIN Can overcome a long layoff at this level and score in this high class company after a useful reappearance 3 weeks ago at Wexford. No guarantees that the Cheltenham Hurdle horses are going to be at their absolute best after a hard race last time, and its worth taking them on with this one, who was prepared for this race rather than Cheltenham after a setback at the beginning of the season. Willie Mullins has him spot on now, and could be ready to take his place at the top of Willie Mullins already brimming with talent hurdling ranks. Ground will not be a problem as long as it doesnt firm out and trip will also suit!! All positives for me. Young Townend is also a potential class act as a jockey, and Ruby would have ridden if it weren't for his love for Celestial Halo.

Re: BBOTD 4th April 2.05 Capucci is a really interesting horse if he retains his ability. He makes his debut for John Quinn after being bought out of the Gosden yard for £24k just before Christmas. He had some decent bits of maiden form - not far behind Military Power (handicap winner off 90) at Goodwood and then a fifth in another big field, this time at Newbury, when infront of Amber Queen (rated that last season, won a handicap off 80) and behind Round the Cape (winner NTO) and Aqlaam, a Group 3 winner at Ascot next time out. Won on his handicap debut at Newbury off 75 but then went off the boil for two runs before ending the season much better when 3rd to the Fifth Member (ran well at Donc last weekend) at Goodwood off 80. He runs off 80 again here, and although no cert, is worth chancing at 8/1 as undoubtedly possesses ability. win

Re: BBOTD 4th April Michael Flips 1.45 Aintree Has run well on good ground and looked impressive at Kempton, another flat track. Was well fancied at Cheltenham with some money coming for it but looked outpaced and was always going to need further, having won a point to point over 3m. I expect the longer trip to be a positive and the ground could make all the difference today. 4 horses aged 5 have won this race in the last 10 years and the trainers comments give me confidence.

Re: BBOTD 4th April 2.35 Newcastle The middle of the pack look to have the best pace with stalls 3, 6 & 7 being those likely to force the pace. Mister Hardy the short fav comes out of stall 8 & will be running on to try to pass the pacy Kings Point. Looking at Kings Point's form it is actually 2lb lower than bets win (in 07) & this ground will suit. Finished 10th in the spring mile last week when leading the stands side gorup with just over 1f to go. I think this will go close today. The price is far more than i expected. Stake Kings point 100% EW @ 16/1 Sporting bet

Re: BBOTD 4th April 3.55 Lingfield - Shark Man - win Two here with previous experience, and I am going with the opinion that the Brocklesby form of Shark Man is stronger than the Kempton maiden form of Desert Auction. Given their experience these two should have it between them, and already the 2nd and the 7th of Brocklesby have come out and won, Shark Man was a decent 5th in that race so must have a big chance of building on that here.

Re: BBOTD 4th April 2.50 Aintree - AL EILE (1pt Win) Has won this race for the past few years and goes for a historic 4th today. Warmed up recently with a nice victory on the all weather and looking at todays opposition, its hard to see him not being involved in the finish.

Re: BBOTD 4th April 1:45 Aintree Saticon - A highly competitive race, but I'm back Saticon at decent odds to fend off the field. He is a decent King horse, and he was introduced to racing with a bang with 3 back to back wins in his first from Jun last year to Oct. In his last two Class 1's he has come 2nd in a Novice's Hurdle where he looked like he was going to win but was just about seen off by the impressive Hebridean. He then ran in the Cheltenam Festival in the Novice's Hurdle where it came 3rd in a very competitive race. He was an outsiders 20/1 shot in that race and if he hadn't of gone left he could of won that race. The winner and 2nd of that race were the immensely impressive, and 3 winner in a row Silk Affair, and the 2nd was Ski Sunday who yesterday came 2nd to the impressive Walkon. I can't see that many horses better than him today, not many have the credentials like Saticon and some haven't done well over the long distances. Saticon steps up in trip to 20f today and I'm hoping it runs well. SATICON - 8/1 0.5pts E.W

Re: BBOTD 4th April 2.15 Aintree - Doctor David This one was going to be a fancy for the Arkle for me, but trainer decided to rest him for Aintree instead. With fav having a tough Arkle and being beaten by my selection already, I think the odds are not right. Tatenen is an obvious danger being a faller and will be fresh here, but he seems to like softer.

Re: BBOTD 4th April Aintree 3.25 Turko E/W Disappointing run last time out when niggled at in the market but reported after to have suffered a breathing problem. Has since had an operation to remedy this and would be no surprise to see this make all the difference - wouldn't be the first time with a Nicholl's horse. On best form shown over fences looks to be very well handicapped in this one today and definite place claims if able to recapture best form.

Re: BBOTD 4th April 4.15 AINTREE Rambling Minster As so many people have highlighted, this ticks so many boxes in the national trends! Like AK, I back this a couple of months ago & as the day arrives it's heading for favouritism in the final hours. Anything can happen in this race, but I just can't get away from the selection. Even my ratings which are drawn up only the night before, point to this one.

Re: BBOTD 4th April Newcastle - 2.35 - Quest For Success - EW Fancy a big price one here at around 40/1......... The favourite is Mister hardy who scooted up last week at Donny. He had a 5 lb claimer up that day and with the penalty and no claimer today he's effectively 11 lbs up and going from a Class 4 to a Class 2 He's obviously fit and in form and is a worthy favourite despite needing to do a lot more today But it's his stablemate at 40/1 that interests me............. Why is he running if Mister Hardy is going to slaughter the field ? Quest For Success is the most lightly raced horse in the field, he won 2 handicaps at the back end of last season. The trainer can obviously get them ready for a seasonal debut as he did with Mister Hardy last week. 1-2 for Mr Fahey !.............:lol
