Southwell 2:40 A quite fascinating little contest. Cases can be made for several of these, up to 6 infact. Back In The Red beat Grimes Faith by a head on this course over 5f on January 13th. Arguments could be made either way on whether Grimes Faith will overturn that head. He has the assistance of Jamie Spencer today, which seems to be giving him the edge in the market. But 6f really isn't his trip, so Back In The Red, who is in such great heart recently and is more suited by 6f, comes very close to the top of my list. Lethal might go better at 7f these days and is also passed over, despite having place claims. Market leader Savile's Delight would have a good chance if fully tuned up today, but obvious concerns the pace might still be too much. He was recently run ragged by Nickel Silver, who always sets a frantic gallop and he may face a similar fate today and Crocodile Bay can take advantage of the pace. He always goes well at Southwell and is a better sprinter than people give him credit for. He was duelling it out with the likes of Strike Up The Band and Championship Point in listed races in his young days and I retain the hope he still has more than enough class as a sprinter to see off this more than capable field.
