Aspers Newcastle Update

TAKEN FROM AWORLDOFPOKER.COM An update on the Aspers Saga. I was one of the ones who walked out a couple of weeks ago when they tried to charge for a coffee, which in my book for a casino to try and charge for soft drinks is unheard of and on principle i wouldnt pay for one. Anyway back to the point, Apsers appointed a new GM and unlike the last one this young man has a bit of common sense. He asked a few of us to go along today and have a meeting with him about the demise of the card room and what could be done to bring it back to its former glory. The main three points of concern were 1, the car park charges 2, having to pay for soft drinks and 3, the rake in the cash game. on point 1 he says anyone who buys into a poker tournament will have 300 points added to there Aspire card, which in affect will cover the park charge, play in a tournament and you have your free car park. On point 2 he agrees that paople who are actually playing a game in the casino should NOT have to pay for soft drinks, he was suprised to learn the previous manager had introduced such a measure, so we have our coffee's back. On point 3 the rake in the cash games, he says it is the way forward but did take on the advice from two of the larger stake cash players that the hourly rate is the only way to go, even if the charge did go up slightly, on that point there was no decision made, but he asked to be giving a couple of days to work things out, which i think is fair enough. Richard admitted that the card room had been in decline and that Chris had had little or no support from the rest of the casino managers, he says that this will now change. We also discussed different type of games and structures, especially for the Friday and Saturday night games, which as far as i am concerend at the minute are a waste of the casinos time, having 100 students getting fed and watered for £22 is ridiculous, it was suggested that maybe they have two tournaments running at the same time, one for the students and one for the players. According to the casino they are losing on average £2000 per month in the poker room, and as of any business it is not going to run at a loss, my suggestion was instead of paying a 10% registration fee for a tournament raise it to £4 or £5 for every tournament, there they have there £2000 a month, and i personnaly dont think anyone would mind paying it. There were other minor things discussed which will be resolved in the coming weeks but as a whole i think that with this new manager in place the poker room will go back to its best. I for one will be back playing at Aspers because to be honest, the other casinos have the odd decent game on from time to time but they cant come close to the facilitys Aspers have. we shall just have to see what the coming weeks bring. Hope this helps

Re: Aspers Newcastle Update Played last night in £30 + £3 freezeout, 70 runners, but no dealers:sad Finished 5th for £150 at 3.30am, was a bit disappointed as was chip leader when i got to final table:$ Lost my coinflip to get chip lead back and that was that, enjoyed the game, but did think it was a bit of a rip off that we paid the £3 entry fee and no dealers were provided.:eyes
