Dhobratz raises 100, he's obviously not after blinds, normally you'd just raise 60-80, so it's quite obvious he's after an AI, that's what's normal at this level anyway. So, should I raise, knowing that he wanted an all in, as far as I see it his probable hand range would be [J,j - AA and Aks/ako] Now, I'm a big favorite against the JJ, split with QQ Against JJ 81 - 19 % = EV+ 62 % QQ 50 - 50 = Ev 0 KK 19- 81 = ev-62 % AA 19- 81 = ev - 62 % AKs = 54 - 46 = ev + 8 % AKo = 56- 43 = ev+ 13 % Now there's a good chance of getting dominated in this hand range, and a lot of players would just raise the pot and call a reraise with AKs/o to see the flop and make the play from their, but there's also a higher chance of hitting AKs/o as you're shooting for 8 cards? Don't really know how to calculate whether or not it was a good play. Any help? :)

Re: Is this a +EV call? Found a brilliant program called pokerstove, you most probably know of that already. equity win tie pots won pots tied Hand 0: 47.366% 45.79% 01.58% 164644764 5675268.00 { QQ } Hand 1: 52.634% 51.06% 01.58% 183588540 5675268.00 { JJ+, AKs, AKo } So basically it was actually a bad call IF the range is right. Now if we include 1010 the equation gives 52,35 % so that makes it a 2,35 % ev+ call right? Now there's also the possibility of meeting some idiot at this level that's ready to go all in with anything, but seem pretty unlikely with the preflop raise etc. So now the question should be, what is the likely range?

Re: Is this a +EV call?

So now the question should be' date=' what is the likely range?[/quote'] What's the Buy In? What have you noticed about him so far? He has a lot of chips for 3 or 4 hands in, suggesting he's been very active so far....

Nah, it's so early in the tourney. It's a 10 dollar tourney, so expect a lot of donks :p Yet, they'd still need some kind of hand to be so eager for the allin.

Re: Is this a +EV call?

How did he get to 1900 chips?
:$ Hadn't even noticed that. Don't pay much attention early on usually in the tourneys, 'cause I only play super premium hands anyway, should probably do that though. Can't find the hand history now, will post when I find it. But is most probably more ev+, that he's playing his second hand in 4 hands, even though he could have 2 premium hands it's unlikely. But the hand had me wondering, not if I should've raised, pretty sure that was the right thing to do, as I wanted to build a pot and isolate the first raiser. Still not entirely sure about the call. This particular situation it was probably the right thing to do, seeing as he had been playing more hands than this 1 already. But in general, if you do not have a read on the player, is the call a good idea, might be hard to say, but after 4 hands you're unlikely to have a read on most players so is a situation you will have to be able to make a decision in.

Re: Is this a +EV call?

You should have a read of the "poker resources" sticky ;)
Some brilliant articles in there, especially "Making money at the cash tables". Thinking of the 5cent/10cent tables reading about Implied odds really helped. Hit something that seems unlikely and get all in, be ready to fold any of the crap really, no fancy moves at this level :p Also, the very basic thing he said "big pots for big hands" don't build big pots with small hands, be ready to fold. The blinds, fold them all day long, no need to get defensive. That's not on-topic though.
