Re: Cricket: Twenty20 World Cup Right let's get some outrights down. 3pts ew Sri Lanka to win Twenty20 World Cup 7/1 Bet365 But for conditions turning against them in the 50 over World Cup final in April, Sri Lanka could well be arriving in South Africa as world champions. They're not though but they have a very good chance to make up for that here. There's no Murali for this event but he's the only big player missing for the Sri Lankan side. We saw in this country last year the destruction that Sri Lanka can do in 20 overs and with Jayasuriya still in good form, that looks set to continue here. Sri Lanka are well led by Mahela Jayawardene and with the likes of Chaminda Vaas, Dilhara Fernando and Lasith Malinga in their bowling attack they shouldn't have any problems restricting sides. Jayasuriya, Tharanga, Sangakkara and Jayawardene are among the best top 4s in the tournament and look full of runs and come September 24, Sri Lanka won't be far away.

5pts Pakistan to win Group D 11/10 VC This group is basically a two horse race. Scotland will be more competitive in this competition than they were in the 50 over world cup but despite competing it's hard to think they'll win a match. That leaves us with the 2 world cup failures India and Pakistan. India have signalled their intentions or lack of them by leaving their main 3 men, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly at home. Mahendra Singh Dhoni captains the side for the 1st time and that isn't ideal. Captaincy in Twenty20 is a tough enough job anyway let alone for a 1st time. Pakistan arrive with a new coach and even though they've had to send Shoaib Akthar home they've more than enough firepower to come through this group in 1st place. Shoaib Malik skippers them now and with players like Shahid Afridi around Pakistan will always be a threat. Mohammad Asif and Umar Gul are good bowlers and should see Pakistan through as group winners. It's basically all about the match between the two which Skybet currently price both up at 5/6 to win so we'll take the 11/10 value call on Pakistan who've warmed up very well.

Re: Cricket: Twenty20 World Cup A couple of outrights from me. First off is a lay of the favourites. There's no way in my mind that Australia should be as low as 2.96 for this tournament. Yes they're probably the best test side in world cricket, yes they're world 50 over champions but this game is totally different. The side that Australia are taking is basically the same side they use for everything else with only Tait missing through injury, and whilst they're undoubtedly talented and are bound to be there or thereabouts come the end of the tournament the lack of experience in this format makes them a stonewall lay for me. Australia [email protected] for 20pts liability (betfair) Secondly, a speculative bet from me on England to win. We pioneered this form of the game and are taking arguably the most experienced 20twenty squad in the tournament. We look to be the only side in the tournament who have actually picked a specialist 20twenty squad which will go in our favour. The only slight misgiving I have is that it's not a squad with much genuine international experience, but 20twenty isn't really cricket so I'm not too worried about that. England Win 2pts @10.0 (bluesquare) Also having a fun bet on the fastest 50. Stan james are offering 4s on a 50 in less than 16 balls. With SA Vs Bangladesh, England and Australia Vs Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka Vs. Kenya and India and Pakistan Vs Scotland I think it's a decent bet. 50 in less than 16 balls [email protected] (stanjames)

Re: Cricket: Twenty20 World Cup 1pt M.Samuels Top West Indies Tournament Batsman 8/1 Stan James Stan James have got this one all wrong. Samuels is as short as 5/1 in other places. Earlier this summer we saw exactly what Marlon Samuels can do, particularly in Twenty20. If he's given licence to play shots, which of course in Twenty20 he'll have exactly that, he's a dangerous player. Sure unlike in England, this time Ramnaresh Sarwan is in the Windies squad but even so Samuels shouldn't be 8/1. Chris Gayle and Shiv Chanderpaul are other dangers but Gayle has been struggling with injury in the build up to this tournament so he may not be a threat. Samuels is a big enough hitter to be right in the mix and at 8/1 I'm happy to take a small punt. That's all the outrights for now but I'll add some more on Monday.

totally agree here, India just don't seem to be bothered by this tournament or indeed this format, its T20 so they could still easily win but shouldn't be favourites to do so.

Re: Cricket: Twenty20 World Cup Well seeing as I've got some cash back on an old bet I can finally have a bet. Top Tournament Bowler . Ben Hilfenhaus(AUS) 50/1 StanJames 2PTS With McGrath retiring here comes a bowler that shows all the technique that McGrath had in his earlier days.Right arm fast medium and the ability to swing the ball both ways,he can also mix his pace up to totally perplex the batsmen which in this competition is paramount.A low economy rate ,which has led to most batsman getting frustrated and throwing away their wickets, should help him to snatch this one from the spinners. I'll also be having a punt at him being Australia's highest wicket taker at 6/1.

Re: Cricket: Twenty20 World Cup Top England Wicket Taker. Paul Collingwood 14/1 2pts StanJames. With no pace on the ball and a humid climate this is where Collingwood can shine.Always a key ability in this type of game is frustrating the batsmen and with gently swinging deliveries he's a hard bowler to hit to the boundary. He holds the current record of best innings bowler with his 4/22 against Sri Lanka last year, and with Flintoff not guaranteed to play every match, plus his fast paced bouncer bowling Freddie won't get too many wickets in this,Anderson has come on a long way but is still susceptable to bowling low slung deliveries onto the leg stump,Broad again seems to put too much bounce into his deliveries. With Collingwood as captain and barring any injuries he's going to play every game and at 14/1 there's a lot of value in Collingwood.

Re: Cricket: Twenty20 World Cup Firstly in what could be a bit of a lottery of a tournament, Australia I agree with the earlier post are too short. They also just lost a warm up game to South Africa and despite potentially having a good 20 20 team with Gilchrist, Symonds, Hayden etc. I am willing to look for alternatives. West Indies @ 10/1 e.w. West Indies are in the group with South Africa and Bangladesh. Hopefully they will have too much for Bangladesh and be able to qualify for the next stage. They are very much an unpredictable team but if they can get it right they can be dangerous. Gayle, Samuels, Morton, Dwayne Smith provide firepower and will be complemented well by the likes of Sarwan, Bravo and the form man of international cricket in Chanderpaul. The bowling is a bit of a concern but Edwards, Powell, Rampul and Bravo got better as the English season went on and Gayle, Samuels and Smith can be effective in this for of the game. They won their warm up game agaisnt New Zealand and I can see the Windies going well. England @ 8/1 e.w. Before that India series I would not have even considered England but now England look to have a promising team developing. Wright, Dimi, KP and Flintoff provide huge firepower and Collingwood, Shah and whoever of the 20/20 specialists will bolster the batting. I would think they would go for Anderson and Broad with Kirtley also an option with his death bowling. I do not have a clue which spinner they would go for but England are an improving team and should be full of confidence and not without a chance.

Re: Cricket: Twenty20 World Cup For top bowler I have gone for: M Morkel of South Africa at 100/1 e.w This price I believe is now only available with one firm now and is quickly dropping to 33/1 in places from 100/1. Morkel was a big success at Kent in the 20 20 in the summer and may well be in the South African team as he was for the warm up game against Australia where he took two wickets. If he makes their team 100/1 is massive. Broad @ 33/1 e.w. Broad proved in the recent series that international cricket is his scene and he boasts a good 20 20 record at domestic level to come with that. His temperament is good and I can see him being one of the emerging players who will do well in this tournamnet.

Re: Cricket: Twenty20 World Cup For top bat: Chanderpaul @ 25/1 e.w. Chanderpaul is the form player in international cricket at the moment. He comes into the event in fantastic form. He can bat in a defensive mode but also has more of an aggressive mode so I do believe that he will be able to adpat in this form of the game. Also while the real power hitters may get the big individual scores in a game, they may not be able to consistantly hit form and that is why a steady player like Chanderpaul should not be underestimated. Pietersen @ 25/1 e.w. KP has had an in and out summer with the odd good knock but also patches where he has appeared slightly out of form. However he ended the series well against India and no doubt will want to be a main man of this new look England side. He will have no problems with this format and I could see him going well.

Re: Cricket: Twenty20 World Cup Right I'll be looking at a few more outrights and will stick them in here as I go. 1st one for today is this one. 4pts S.Bond Top NZ Tournament Bowler 9/4 Betdirect Shane Bond is a quality bowler in all forms of the game and this one isn't excluded. He's quick, swings it and has a very good yorker so should pick up plenty of wickets. He has 5 wickets in 3 Twenty20 internationals. New Zealand have played 2 warm up matches for this event in South Africa against Australia and West Indies and Bond took 4 wickets in those matches so he comes into the tournament in good nick. Daniel Vettori rates his main dangers with the odds compilers but captaincy may distract him from his bowling. Mark Gillespie could go well but Bond is the main man for the Kiwi's and I expect him to be their top bowler.

Re: Cricket: Twenty20 World Cup

Backing Malinga in the " Top Bowler " market..
That's very helpful :eyes. Maybe next time you can say why. Next outright for me 2pts L.Wright Top England Tournament Batsman 5/1 Stan James Luke Wright comes into this tournament running very hot right now, he's been in superb nick all summer for Sussex and any doubts over whether he can do it in the international arena went on his ODI debut last week when he splattered the Indian attack all around The Oval. At Lords in the last ODI, I think England gave their hand away when Luke Wright was promoted to open the innings, I'm fairly confident he'll do that here too and on what are usually good wickets against a hard new ball, Wright can take advantage with some scores.

Re: Cricket: Twenty20 World Cup Last outright I think. 1pt ew G.Smith Top Tournament Overall Batsman 16/1 Betdirect (1/4 1,2,3,4) Graeme Smith is a very good Twenty20 batsman. He had an excellent season in England in 2005 when he led Somerset to success with his runs being a huge factor in that win and has a decent record in international Twenty20. In the international version of this game he averages a phenomenal 86.33 from his 5 innings which includes three half centuries. As an opening batsman he can take advantage of the 6 over fielding restrictions and with his side being without Jacques Kallis they'll be relying on Smith even more. I expect South Africa to have a decent enough run in this tournament and Smith shouldn't be far away from the top of the runscorer pile.

Re: Cricket: Twenty20 World Cup I am taking the West Indies @ 6/4 to beat South Africa. South Africa are the favourites for this and on paper that is right and if their potentially explosive players take to 20 20 then they will be hard to beat but the Windies should not be written off. They too have players who can take big time to this format and they showed signs of that in this country earler this year. Their batting especially looks strong and if the bowlers can cope with South Africa's batting then they stand a good chance and remember South Africa have blown it before facing the Windies in the opening game of a major tournament before.

Re: Cricket: Twenty20 World Cup Ok the start is finally here :nana.

South Africa1.51.531.571.561.571.531.51.481.571.551.571.531.551.531.571.571.571.571.571.531.571.571.57
West Indies2.52.372.252.662.252.372.52.662.252.352.252.372.452.372.52.252.252.42.252.372.722.722.7
3 for me in this one. 10pts West Indies to beat South Africa 2.72 Betfair West Indies are just too big here. Let's not forget this is a Twenty20 match. I wouldn't expect them this big in a 50 over match but especially not in a 20 over match where they have the personnel to cause a lot of damage. South Africa are the hosts though so they are probably rightly favourites if a little short. South Africa have given Jacques Kallis the fortnight off, a decision which didn't go down too well. Mark Boucher voiced his displeasure at the decision which has landed him in trouble with the powers that be. In Graeme Smith, Herschelle Gibbs and AB de Villiers, South Africa have an excellent top 3 but their bowling attack - devoid of a quality spinner is very worrying indeed. Chris Gayle is an injury concern for the Windies and if he doesn't make it that will be a huge loss but in Sarwan, Chanderpaul, Samuels and Morton they have enough big hitting batsmen to cope. Rampaul, Sammy, Powell and Smith are all fairly good one day bowlers and Samuels and Gayle if fit will provide the spin option. It's South Africa's party but they've failed in their party before and the Caribbean boys are more than capable of upsetting them this time too. So much is about South Africa's top 3 and if they fail then they may not have enough to back them up. It should be a good game but one which the Windies can sneak home in. 10pts South Africa Most 6s 4/5 William Hill One thing South Africa are good at is hitting 6s especially at The Wanderers. The crowd will be behind them and with the likes of Smith, Gibbs, de Villiers and Boucher in their side they shouldn't be short of maximums. Chris Gayle is an injury doubt and even if he plays he might not be fully fit. That would take away a danger in the 6 hitting stakes although Marlon Samuels can make up for that. South Africa will be used to this ground though and I think they'll clear the ropes more than their Caribbean opponents. 5pts ew H.Gibbs Top South Africa Bat 9/2 Boylesports Herschelle Gibbs is due to open the innings for South Africa and he simply loves this Wanderers ground. He hit a superb 175 in *that* ODI against Australia and has various other decent knocks there too. As he is going to open he'll have the opportunity to take advantage of the fielding restrictions which are so key particularly in South Africa with the heavy conditions. Besides the main three in this South Africa lineup there isn't a great deal else in the batting lineup so at 9/2 Gibbs looks an ew steal.

Re: Cricket: Twenty20 World Cup What a superb start to the tournament :loon. Solid night for me thanks to Herschelle Gibbs top scoring but Windies were awful in the field and threw it away and Gayle ended the 6s bet as a contest on his own. +8.13 for the night though which I'll take going into tomorrow's triple header.

Bets in order. Match 1. 10pts NZ -5.5wickets/55.5runs 5/6 Sportingbet New Zealand are a class above Kenya really and that's been evident in the two warm up matches. Kenya did well to make 155 in their 20 overs against the West Indies but struggled to 117/4 against Bangladesh in their 2nd warm up game and you can't help but feel they'll struggle to score runs against this Kiwi attack. New Zealand are under new leadership with Stephen Fleming having retired from the one day game. Daniel Vettori leads the side but he did that in the Twenty20 against Sri Lanka in the winter so he's not new to captaincy. Jacob Oram could well bat 3 here and Brendon McCullum, not the wicket keeper in this tournament, will open. Scott Styris and Ross Taylor have had good years in 1 day cricket and should go well here too. With the ball Shane Bond is different gravy and he's well backed up by Mark Gillespie. Daniel Vettori and Jeetan Patel offer spin options. Kenya as ever seem to rely on their captain Steve Tikolo for their success. He's a class act and will look to shine on the world stage again. Other old timers Collins Obuya and Thomas Odoyo are also still part of the party. Maurice Ouma is flamboyant as an opener and with the ball Lameck Onyango and Thomas Odoyo look the main players. New Zealand though will win this comfortably. They beat Kenya by 148 runs in the 50 world cup earlier this year and while the margin of victory won't be as big here, NZ will still win comfortably. 5pts ew T.Odoyo Top Kenya Bat 11/2 Boylesports (1/4 1,2,3) Thomas Odoyo is a big hitter who seems likely to come into bat at number 5 or 6. That isn't a bad thing though as it will mean he should be facing NZ's lesser bowlers after Shane Bond has bowled at the start. Being a big hitter he can come in and really accelerate a run rate and with him not likely to have too much before him to beat with the exception of Steve Tikolo who may well be targetted by the bowlers, I'd expect Odoyo to be there or thereabouts. Odoyo hit 33 off 22 balls in the warm up game with the Windies so comes into this in good nick and looks a good ew bet.

Re: Cricket: Twenty20 World Cup Match 2. 5pts ew R.Watson Top Scotland Bat 4/1 Boylesports (1/4 1,2,3) Ryan Watson is easily the best of the Scottish batsmen and he should be taken to top score here. He'll open the innings alongside Gregor Maiden and that will help his chances massively. Although Mohammad Asif and Umar Gul are good bowlers, Scotland could really be strangled by the Pakistani spinners Hafeez, Afridi and even Shoaib Malik later in the innings so facing the new ball with pace on the ball is likely to help Watson. He comes into this match fresh off the back of an excellent 50 ball 64 against Zimbabwe in the 2nd warm up match and given we'll get our money back if he comes 2nd or 3rd Watson must be the choice.

Re: Cricket: Twenty20 World Cup Match 3. 10pts Over 11 6s 11/8 Sportingbet We'd be helped very much if Australia were to bat 1st in this match because they could quite easily hit the required amount of 6s themselves however it's not all doom and gloom if Australia don't bat 1st as Zimbabwe are capable of sticking in a few 6s. Sure if Zimbabwe bat 1st they are unlikely to score too many runs which could put us in trouble but there is a strong wind in Cape Town which will be stronger in the evening which should help the 6 hitting. Australia batting 1st is a 50/50 chance and we're getting 11/8 on that 50/50 chance so I'm happy to take the risk. 2pts B.Hodge Top Australia Batsman 8/1 Betfred Betfred might just have this priced up all wrong. Matthew Hayden has a slight injury concern so it's possible he'll be rested and Brad Hodge will open. Equally, Ricky Ponting has only just arrived in South Africa and he may not be chanced so Hodge could bat at 3. Wherever he bats though, Hodge is the leading Twenty20 runscorer in the world in all competitions which shows he has good pedigree in the competition. If he does bat up the order he's a huge price especially when we take into account if he doesn't bat we get a refund. Betfred are win only though so I'm only risking 2pts.

Re: Cricket: Twenty20 World Cup

Good tip there Kevshat, just wanted to ask... Obuya - Runs 18 Balls 25 Odoyo - Runs 18 Balls 26 You get paid for a win, or just E/W? P.S, watch out for my lethal tips (to lay :tongue2) for tomorrow's matches :ok

Re: Cricket: Twenty20 World Cup

Odoyu bet should turn out to be half the odds. But a fantastic tip on Brad Hodge even though it didn't go quite the way you thought.:ok
Yep, still paid out as a win albeit at only half the odds. Cheers Sharpey, aye not the way I expected it but all that's in the book is a win! Australia in real trouble here :eek. 138 is a nothing target. If Zimbabwe bat the overs they win.
