UltimateBet freerolls

slapdash

I've played a few of these recently as the start of a Chris Ferguson type "from nothing to a fortune" experiment. My original thought was that if I made it tough to get started, I would take more seriously the need not to lose my bankroll. But I've found I quite enjoy them. If you're looking to make money, then forget these. There's a $50 prize pool ($10 for first place, with 18 places paid) and around 2500 entries. But the structure is really excellent for a freeroll. 12 minutes blinds starting at 5/10, with a starting stack of 1500. There are the usual freeroll all-in merchants at the beginning, but because of the relatively slow/deep blind structure, you can afford to wait and not take them on without the nuts. And towards the end, the blinds are still small enough that there's a lot of play left. They're mostly NLHE, but they also have other variants. I played a pot limit Omaha hi/lo one a few days ago (and came 23rd :(). Not great quality poker, as you'd expect for a freeroll, but I'd recommend them to anybody who just wants to play for fun. I'm currently playing one and am 18th out of 31 remaining.
