ReasoningLast year the Wachovia Championship was won by Jim Furyk showing that length off the tee isnt too important here; the most important thing is staying out of the 3inch rough and reaching the greens in regulation. The last few weeks have seen Luke Donald get his year back on track. A T10th at Augusta and a 2nd at the EDS last week showed us that he is back on form and I'm willing to bet on the fact that he'll be raring to go after missing out on a win last win. He hit 4 sub-70 rounds yet again last week and will be looking to build on that on a challenging course. He was 1st in driving accuracy and 7th in GIR last week while also hitting the most birdies in the field. Although he isnt the longest off the tee he should be there or thereabouts come the end of the week.

Zach Johnson isnt long off the tee, that's for sure. But he's accurate, sticks to his game plan and has proven that he can perform with the worlds best and beat them. With 29out of the top 30 in the world playing this week this will be important - he knows he can win. He is 3rd for driving accuracy which is very impressive, his GIR is only at 64% but with his putting it all bodes well. Also, the fact that he followed his Masters win with a 6th at the Verizon Heritage shows that he's not taking anything for granted.

Big price for a guy who is playing good golf at the moment; especially considering he came T6th last year. Although none of his stats particularly stand out, he has hit 6 top 30s in a row so he must be doing something right! On a course he likes, this could be the week it really clicks.

Having made 5 cuts in a row he DJ Trahan must be feeling confident. What might make him more confident is the fact that he has only started this tournament twice and he has finished 9th and T14th. While his stats dont jump out as anything special, he was in horrific form last year before this tournament, finished T14 and then went back to playing badly. This is clearly a course that he enjoys playing and at this price he's worth a punt. GL

Re: Golf - Wachovia Championship What a field this week! Not sure about Woods this week, first of all his driving needs sorting out big time! wtf happened at Augusta! tee shots everywhere in the rough, and that will punish him here! PHIL MICKLESON @ 14/1 Sporting Odds e/w Has had a 5th, 7th & 35th positions in last three times he has played here so record in quite decent. Butch Harmon seems to have sorted Phil out recently as he has very good tournament last week where he was 3rd, a -5 in final round. Driving seems to be quite ok now and he'll need that here. People seem to think he had a bad Masters, but he was 24th and that is not bad for a player who was struggling with his swing a few weeks back. Would be full of confidence after good showing last week. VIJAY SINGH @ 18/1 Paddy Power e/w Has a good record at this course, a former winner here and also been 2nd. God knows what happened to him last year, in contention last year in final round before getting a shocking 81 on final day. Already a winner twice this year and been in contention in most events he played. Had all four rounds under par last week just finishing outside top 10 and that shows he is in good form. 7 top 15s in 15 starts this year.

Re: Golf - Wachovia Championship If it's of any use, the top two PGA.com experts for year to date have both nominated Vijay Singh as their likely winner. Here's what they both had to say: Helen Ross PGA TOUR.com Chief of Correspondents Pick: Vijay Singh Look for Vijay Singh to pad his FedExCup lead this week. He came from six strokes off the pace with a 66 to win the Wachovia Championship in 2005 and finished second in 2003. Not to mention, he's playing extremely well -- surprise, surprise -- with two wins already this year. He hasn't missed a cut in 12 starts this season and hasn't finished out of the top 20 in his last six starts. Why argue with success?

Dave Shedloski PGA TOUR.com Senior Correspondent Pick: Vijay Singh Vijay Singh. Too obvious to ignore. The FedExCup point's leader won the 2005 edition and has been in the top-10 in three of his four starts. A tie for 38th last year was an aberration, when he'd fallen into a few bad habits. He's back and better and with two wins this year already, he's got to be feeling good going to such a friendly venue. I've done reasonably well backing Stenson and Goosen thus far. Will stick with these two and add VJ for this tournament. GL & :hope :hope

Re: Golf - Wachovia Championship Both my outrights still in contention, just hoping both get placed really for e.w! WOODS to beat Sabbatini in 2 Ball @ 8/15 Sporting Odds We see it all the time in tournaments in the final round. When Woods is playing in final 2 ball with someone who is not established with winning a few tournaments every year, that player collapses and has their worst round of the week by far. I'm not sure Sabbatini can get under par today, too much pressure on him being with Woods, and even worse he has to compose himself with the best player in the world breathing down his neck, a horrible feeling. Odds arnt great but I just can't see Sabbatini holding his nerve and winning so imo odds are value albeit short, and obviously I don't want him to win tournament outright, he should beat Sabbatini in final 2 ball here.
