3:00......... CHARACTER BUILDING A horse who manages to get placed on four of his first five runs can be called many things from frustrating to the unprintable. One description might be character building and, while it has taken time for the early promise to be delivered with, Character Building he now seems capable of paying his way. Russ Garritty’s trips south to ride at Ascot are about as rare as hen’s teeth but he takes just the one ride in the for trainer John Quinn, with whom he has a 23% strike-rate. His front-running style was compromised by a lack of stamina and he was second in two bumpers and a novice hurdle having led but then faded in the closing stages. Chracter Building finally broke his duck in a maiden hurdle at Sedgefield in May and was then switched to fences for his seasonal debut at Newcastle in November
