THERE was mixed luck for the fancied runners at the Cox Plate barrier draw, with Sydney star Racing To Win faring well with gate six while El Segundo came up with an awkward alley 10.

The pair remain equal favourites for Saturday's race with TAB Sportsbet at $3.50. Miss Finland, who will be striving to become the first filly to win the Moonee Valley feature since Surround in 1976, will start from barrier four, one inside Darren Beadman's mount, Our Smoking Joe. Fields Of Omagh, lining up in his fifth Cox Plate, has gate seven while the Roger Hoysted-trained Lad Of The Manor drew favourably in two. The two horses making their Australian debuts, Grey Swallow and Honor In War, drew the inside and outside gates respectively in the field of 13. Meanwhile, Caulfield Cup runner-up Aqua D'Amore, who drew eight, will now be ridden by Kieren Fallon, who replaces Stephen Baster.

More to come…

Re: Australia's Greatest WFA Race - The COX PLATE on Saturday Oct 26th Scare for Miss Finland Trainer David Hayes says Miss Finland will be ready for Saturday's Cox Plate despite being kicked during trackwork on Thursday morning. "A horse ran past her and stopped and ran back into her and kicked her," Hayes told the ABC. The three-year-old filly was about to begin trackwork at Flemington when the incident occurred. "It was a bit of a swing, swipe and half miss," said jockey Craig Williams.
