GaF
Re: Mansion $3000 Freeroll + Blackjack discussion $3.50 profit from my 25 hands...... :) Have to say though - cannot see the attraction of the game at all, or understand why people play it - no skill and no possibility of winning (beyond short run variance) - just purely mechanical to minimise losses - I certainly wont be becoming "hooked" on it...... AJ
Re: Mansion $3000 Freeroll + Blackjack discussion I know what your saying, but surely a game where people cant win wouldnt be played? Is that a real question ?? Ask another one, would a casino offer a game that people could win ?? As someone who has played blackjack a lot to a serious level over the years, my opinion is the game can not be beaten in the long term. The house edge will always catch up. 0.41% with perfect basic strategy is a small edge, but it's there. Wins and losses can be put down to short term variance, I once won 13 hands in a row (NY NY in vegas) playing perfect basic strategy, but I've also lost a huge number of hands again playing perfectly. I read a book by a guy that was part of a counting team in the mid 90's, they only placed their large bets when the count was +10 and above, in theory they had a 3% edge over the house. While they made money in the long term (before getting caught and banned from every casino on earth) some weekends they suffered huge losses despite having an edge. View the game as fun, and try and breakeven and hit the casino for as many drinks and meals as poss and you'll be fine. Anything else and you're heading for trouble. Also aviod tables that pay 6/5 for blackjack, instead of 3/2. Doesn't sound a lot, but playing for an hour with $10 bets, the average difference is $40 an hour. I use a staking system that has done really well for me in the past basically you only have to win half the games the dealer does to show a healthy profit if anyones interested i can post the basic details

(i.e. progressive staking?) It might make you win more often - however it doesn't positively change your expectation or your chances of winning (i.e. nill!!) - when you do lose, you will lose big, wiping out any positive gains..... fenner
Re: Mansion $3000 Freeroll + Blackjack discussion it is pretty much the martangle but just to play 25 hands and using the stake 1 1 1 1 you should qualifiy for the tourney with out it costing you much if any and alot of the time show a profit . I used 1 2 3 4 as my start which gave me a $25 profit after 25 hands

Well its not a FREEROLL! if its costing you money to play it.[/quote'] Well I don't view it as any different to the vast majority of freerolls which are raked hand freerolls - yes they're not "genuine" freerolls (but they are freerolls - you are getting a free poker tournament above and beyond the Blackjack that you play) - but so long as what you have to do to qualify for it is clear from the outset then it is YOUR choice whether you do it or not - in this case you chose to play blackjack in an effort to qualify for the free poker tournament - it was your choice - not sure you can complain at Mansion because you lost at blackjack...... Why do you think you lost so much (proportionately) at blackjack? Were you just exceptionally unlucky in the short run this was over? Or did you fail to mechanically follow the optimal strategy (and to level stakes)?

slapdash
Re: Mansion $3000 Freeroll + Blackjack discussion Even playing perfectly, losing $9 or more in 30 hands at stakes of $1 a hand is not that unlikely. Around a 10% chance at a rough estimate. Certainly not unlikely enough to qualify as a "GaF-approved bad beat".
GaF
Re: Mansion $3000 Freeroll + Blackjack discussion Certainly not unlikely enough to qualify as a "GaF-approved bad beat". lol - ok :ok My thought was to lose $9 from 25 hands, you were winning 8 and losing 17 - as you say, not THAT unlikely - however far more likely if you didn't play perfect basic strategy (or whatever it's called !!!) - I've no idea if rookie did or didn't but felt it was worth bringing up if anyone wasn't (though it should be quite clear from the discussion in this thread anyway)
