Had this newsletter from APAT : (At first glance, without further info., it seems to me that APAT is very quickly going away from its original Amateur ethos...)

Amateur Poker Association & Tour

Member Newsletter

Dear Member, Please find a news update below, on topics that are proving of particular interest to our members at this time. APAT Live Due to overwhelming demand, the registration process for our first live event; the English Amateur Poker Championship, is being revised. It is likely that we will draw 120 members (plus a reserve list) to fill the event. We accept this is not ideal, but we feel it is the fairest way to allocate seats for our inaugural live event. We will confirm the new process to members in the next few days. We can confirm that seats will not be available to purchase on August 31, as previously advertised. We have had demand from a number of players who play full time, and would like to join the APAT. While it was not our stated intention to allow professionals to join the APAT, we believe there is a solution which would allow the Association to represent players of all levels, while protecting the amateur ethos of our Tour. Tony Kendall will confirm our position on this item as part of the above announcement. We have received tremendous feedback from members on the first release of APAT rules and structures, which have been signed off by the Gaming Commission and can be found at http://www.apat.com/rules.html. We are currently reviewing your feedback and will make amendments where appropriate. We can confirm that the rules will not be amended in any form during an event weekend. APAT Online Series The first Online Series event was completed on August 19. A field of 193 runners entered the English Amateur Poker Open. After five hours of play, the title went to Lancashire, when experienced online player Des Morris -"Purr of Aces", defeated West Yorkshire's Wayne Parker - "Nosey-P". Essex's Geoff Keddy - "Kedster" put in a superb performance to take third. A feature of the event was the tremendous member support given to the players as they entered the final stages of play, in what was a very exciting event. Congratulations to Des, who won nearly $1,200 and 9 ranking points, establishing himself as number 1 in the APAT player of the year rankings, and as an early favourite to win a trip to the PokerStars' Caribbean Adventure WPT event. Point scorers at the English Amateur Poker Open were:- 1) Purr of Aces, Manchester - 9pts; 2) Nosey-P, Wakefield - 8pts; 3) Kedster, Waltham Abbey - 7pts; 4) RiskieG, London - 6pts; 5) Belgariad, Slough - 5pts; 6) Burnley Joe, Plymouth - 4pts; 7) Mal666, Huddersfield - 3pts; 8) CubsFlan, Indiana - 2pts; 9) Birdi Numnum, Halifax - 1pt. A special mention for Allan Peers - "BigAl371 from Liverpool, who finished tenth and missed out on a ranking point by the narrowest of margins. The next event in the Online Series will be held at PokerStars.com on September 2 at 8pm UK / 3pm ET time. The Italian Amateur Poker Open is already registering and the password to enter is ********. The Canadian Amateur Poker Open will be held on September 16. These events, as with all events are open to members of every nationality. Details of the APAT Online Series can now be found at PokerStars.com. Membership Details Your email address will act as your unique member reference on the Amateur Poker Association & Tour database. We have not deemed it necessary to issue membership cards at this time. Please ensure you keep us updated with any amendments to your details. On behalf of Tony and the rest of the team, we would like to thank all members for their support of the Amateur Poker Associaton & Tour. Kind regards, Des Duffy Managing Director Amateur Poker Limited NL1B3
