Strategy in later stages of tournaments

slapdash

Recommended Posts

I think I'm fairly good at playing the later stages of tournaments when I have a short stack, mainly due to reading Volume 2 of "Harrington on Hold Em". (I have some criticisms of his books, but I'd highly recommend them. I think that Volume 2 in particular improved my tournament game more than any other book I've read.) Unfortunately, waiting until you have a short stack is not the way to win tournaments. I have to admit that on occasion I have thought, after losing most of my big stack: "Well, never mind, at least I know what I'm doing now." Does anybody have any recommendations of books to read about how to play the later stages of tournaments when you're doing well? Or any pearls of wisdom that might help me?

Re: Strategy in later stages of tournaments be selectively aggressive (something I try to do but usually fail miserably at :unsure :unsure :unsure ) so don't push too many hands too often, pick your spots and position etc (i should really listen to myself :wall ) And be prepared to take the coin flips - you have AQ, raise and someone shoves for 40% of your stack - do you call? or comfortably fold? these are the critical hands that make or break you - these are the issues I have to resolve to get better at and improve my game and I don't think any book (apart from Dan's) cover these issues in any decent way?? In some respects it is so much harder having a 'largish' stack the middle/late part of the game - you know you should be bullying people but its finding the spot, (its REALLY easy with a really large stack, or a very short one :)) BTW if you do find the answer let me know :eek Best of luck Damo who has just started re-reading HoH2 this very night! :loon :cheers
