Phil Hellmuth Tournament Play

I saw on the telly yesterday that hellmuth only plays 7-7 pairs upwards and A-K A-Q until he gets into the money. I tried this in a free-roll on Stanjames and was doing ok, around middle place after half an hour. Then on the big blind with one caller I didnt go with the system and busted out. It seemed to have worked well until i got bored, does anyone else have a particular strategy they use?
