easymoney
Hello, Am new to the poker game, figured all I needed to do was buy a book a then watch teh money roll in. Bought a book called 'Internet texas Hold'em winning strategies from an internet pro' by Matthew Hilger. It obviously has alot of good info in it but finding it all a bit hard to get my head round. Anyway i was interested in the Poker Bonuses around, is it possible to make much money out of them like you can with teh casino bonuses? For example it all seems like to much work for such a small bonus e.g. 375 raked hands for $25 with coral. What does everyone else think of these bonus's. staffy
Re: POKER BONUS'S > ARE THEY WORTH THE HASSLE Bonuses are very good IMO. Worth having a look around and checking who has the best bonuses at the moment. If you click on Free Money at the top of this screen they will tell you where there are good bonuses at the moment aswell. Good luck with your poker and if you ever need any advice just ask there are several of us who play reasinably regularly. (not sure if were any good though). GaF
Re: POKER BONUS'S > ARE THEY WORTH THE HASSLE At Punters Lounge, we added some affiliate links yesterday which will guide you towards some bonuses. http://www.punterslounge.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18500#post285563 One of the best of them at the moment is however Sporting Odds, who we don't have an affiliate link with yet (the link you see here is the Betting site, not the Poker Site, and I don't believe the affiliate links follow through). They are offering $30 for your first 100 raked hands, then $70 for your next 400 raked hands (so $100 on your first 500 raked hands overall) - you can earn rake on the $0.05/$0.10 tables (as long as you contribute to the pot and the pot is over $1). Is it worth it? Definitely .... it's free money isn't it? If you saw $100 laying on the pavement, would it be worth picking up? If you're going to be playing poker anyway, why not accept their money? The only proviso I would add, is if you're a beginner, then make sure you build up to cash games - don't just jump in their, or you'll probably end up losing more than they give you. The advice I give beginners to progress, is make sure you can make money at each level before progressing .... Level 1) Start here - go to the play money rooms. The strategy of your opponents here is non existent, so you won't learn how to play the game well. You will however, make sure that you understand the game rules and software. If you can't consistently make money here, then you're not really ready to play for cash. Level 2) Play freerolls - that is tournaments that are free to enter, but offer cash prizes. See if you can start building up a bankroll from playing these. Don't expect to win them (they can have up to 10,000 entrants) and don't expect to get rich playing them - but the strategic play of your opponents, whilst still generally poor is a step up from what you experienced at level 1, and you should be able to generate some winnings (see the sig of Valiant23/ForumFish(Valiant23) - he records the bankrole he builds from Freerolls) Level 3) When you are comfortable with level 2, and maybe having built up a little bit of a bankroll, you may want to start risking some cash to win cash. Don't jump straight into Cash/Ring games - your money will go further by playing in tournaments. Again you can generally expect a step up in the standard of play from your opponents. Level 4) Only when you are playing reasonably well at Level 3, and making money from your play would I advise trying to play Cash/Ring games. Again, the standard should increase here (there are exceptions). This is the quickest way to make money, and the fastest way to lose it!!! So going back to the original question, yes Bonuses are worth it, but only when you're comfortable playing at Level 4 - don't let the offer of a bonus push you to this level or you will probably lose more money than you earn..... easymoney
Re: POKER BONUS'S > ARE THEY WORTH THE HASSLE thankyou for the info. Will definately be giving it a go. Out of interest on average at the low limit games how many raked hands would you expect to get in each hour?
staffy
Re: POKER BONUS'S > ARE THEY WORTH THE HASSLE I guess that all depends on what they require as a raked hand. Each table would play about 50 raked hands an hour. Some more some less obviously.
GaF
Re: POKER BONUS'S > ARE THEY WORTH THE HASSLE Also depends on your style of play - tight or loose, and how many tables you play at once.....
Ell Ess Dee
Re: POKER BONUS'S > ARE THEY WORTH THE HASSLE I got an email from Absolute Poker for 200% 1st time deposit. Have some of that i thought and topped up $50 - wish i never now.. You get a point for every tourney you enter into and you have to accumulate 100 points to get back just $10 of that bonus :@ :@ Moral - read the website 1st, and don't to what i did when i was p1ssed... philossify
Re: POKER BONUS'S > ARE THEY WORTH THE HASSLE Yep bonuses tend to be biased towards players of raked real money games rather than tournements ..... and on other than sportingodds the rake qualification requirement is often hard to make unless you risk losing some money.
