Trading in running?

Not sure if this is the right place for this but i was wondering what are the different strategies/systems people use to bet in running on matches traded in running on betfair. I have tried quite a few without much success. One startegy I have tried is backing the favourite and then laying it off when the price gets shorter. However if the price does not get shorter then I back the favourite again with a heavier stake to dilute the price and then lay it off. It would be good to hear your views!

Re: Trading in running? Hi, Lakhani, I have used the system you mention with small stakes for favourites in small field horse races, where good liquidity is probable. Backing an early morning price, while risky, can work, laying it just before the race. The beauty of this method is that you need know nothing about horses, form, etc., so I qualify in all those requirements. I have only made a minimal amount per race, often having to accept a lay price that would only return my 'to win' stake, if the horse lost.To make any decent amount you would need to risk £100+ per race, and I know of "pro's" who place £1000 lays, regularly, and make it their 'living'. There are punters in this forum much more experienced and qualified to comment in more detail about specific methods than I am, and a few new threads that I think are using similar strategies, showing a profit. In my own specialised area of football spreadbetting I bet,(trade), in running on total goals, by 'selling' at, say, 2.5 before the match, and providing no goals are scored in the first 30 minutes, trading out, (the equivalent of 'laying'), for a small profit. If an early goal is scored, you have to hope that the 'spread' or 'price', (odds offered), go back down during the remainder of the match. I am certain that you can do a similar thing on the betting exchanges. It's a risky strategy, but profitable if you are selective about the matches you trade in. Hope this helps, good luck....:ok
