Western Open US Golf

Recommended Posts

Right peoples, I have had some decent success on the golf this year and I plan to try and post my write ups on the weeks event when I have time/can be arsed eek2.gifNot been great the last few weeks on the golf. But hopefully things will turn around this week. Looking at the key stats which are needed at the Cog Hill course for the Western Opeb is a little tricky. It looks like you are better backing players who have a good all round ranking. Looking at previous winners of this event, 7 of the last 8 have all been ranked inside the top 26 for all round ranking that year. The exception being Jerry Kelly (ranked 55th) in 2002. I have looked at other speculative players outwith this bracket but nothing really worth going at. So I am going to take a big gamble and only choose players ranked in the top 30 overall rankings. Of course Tiger may well run away with this as he has won this a few times before and has a good game for this course, but his price is no value whatsoever First up is Billy Mayfair, who I backed last week and he was a little frustrating to say the least. Just as he looked like getting into contention in the first 3 rounds he would toss in a double bogey or a run of bogeys to fall back. Eventually finishing with one of the best final rounds of the day to get an agonising tie for 7th. In his last 4 starts at Cog Hill he has three top 30 finishes, not amazing course form but he has won this back in 1995. Recent form, he has 3 top 10's in his last 6 starts. More importantly he is ranked 2nd on tour. 66-1 general Secondly I am going for Robert Allenby. Ok hes not ranked in the top 30, but he is ranked 31st overall! His recent form has been a little bit patchy, but he is back after having a break after his efforts in the US Open. His last 5 starts here are 11,6,10, MC,1. Could probably put the missed cut down to the pressure of being defending champion. 66-1 at sporting odds Thirdly I am going for Lucas Glover . No course form to go on but he is ranked in the top 20 overall and is a solid player who gets it onto the green. He has had a number of top 10 finishes this season and I fancy him again for the top 10 at 10-1 Stan James. At the time of writing Paddy Power have yet to price up their top 10 market so he may be slightly better there. Thats my thoughts. dude.gif Any other views welcome

Re: Western Open US Golf I read somewhere, maybe inside edge, that Mark Hensby actually lived at the course during the mid 90s. apparently he spent 3 years there (?) honing his game whilst he was trying to turn pro. Finished in a tie for 3rd at us open, his best finish this season on tour- coming in to form?, i see he's at 40s general. hoped to get him a bit longer say 66s but i'll give him a shot for each way interest.
