Sheerluck Holmes
Re: Jorvik's 2015 Flat Season Decent day today, Perfect Muse didn't really show but wins for Distant Past and a somewhate lucky Whitecrest give a tidy profit. Just one for tomorrow ... 3.30 Goodwood This is a lot easier than many of the races the 6yo has contested and although there's a slight concern over the ground and draw, I'm hoping for a big run. One for lucky last at Pontefract tomorrow ... 9.10 Pontefract A chance is taken with unexposed Jan Van Hoof who has only had 3 racecourse starts, but latterly winning a maiden at Wolverhampton, a race that has worked out pretty well. He acts on the ground (2nd at Newcastle over 5f) and that performance was also after a break, so the 5/1 currently on offer with Bet365 looks good value. Sheerluck Holmes
Re: Jorvik's 2015 Flat Season So, Jan Van Hoof won really well in the end which certainly wasn't expected after it had drifted all day. Just the one for tomorrow and hoping I can keep my winning run going ... 3.25 Salisbury A chance is taken with the Ron Harris trained Aussie Ruler, who whilst being a 9 race maiden, has some good bits of form to his name. For the first time, a 7lb claimer takes the ride today and he's been dropped another 5lbs which should make him competitive. The trainer won this last year with a similar type of horse and at double the odds of some of his competitors, I'm willing to back him and see what happens. Sheerluck Holmes
Have had a bit of an enforced sabbatical but it's a beautiful day and fancy losing a few quid on some beautiful animals ... 2.30 Chester A really tight sprint handicap, but one which can go to Seve, the least exposed in the field. The 3yo won a maiden on debut over C&D and then wasn't disgraced NTO in a big handicap at York. Didn't get the 6f LTO so the drop back to 5f should she him super competitive. Fair draw and trainer in decent nick. Captain Dunne looks the danger. Seve 1pt Win @ 11/2 Paddy Power 4.50 Chester Like the other sprint, this looks difficult to decipher. However, in one of those nice coincidences that racing throws up, I'm backing Ballesteros to follow up Seve. Ignoring his run LTO which was over 6f from a tough draw, this represents a significant drop in class and back at 5f from a slightlt better draw, looks the one to be on. Ballesteros 1pt Win @ 15/2 BetVictor 6.15 Chester Can't be having Mossgo who although in a rich vein of form, winning 3 on the bounce on the AW here, he's upped in grade, is 1/14 on turf and 0/7 on GF. Preference therefore is for Pucon who will find conditions fine, is on a winnable mark and llike Mossgo, goes well round here. Sheerluck Holmes
Pucon won nicely yesterday to give us a small profit on the day ... Couple of sprints tomorrow to look at ... 3.30 Pontefract Sleeping Apache looks to have the best chance but at 5/2 is too short. A chance is therefore taken on the David O'Meara trained State Of The Union. I'm forgiving him his run LTO (upped in grade over 6f on GS) and hoping that dropping back to 5f on good to firm ground with 1st time cheekpieces can spark an improvement. State of The Union 0.5pt E/W @ 12/1 Paddy Power 8.15 Musselburgh Go Go Green is already on his 10th run of the season, and although consistent, is yet to get his head in front, but he now takes a significant drop in grade and a 7lb claimer on board has to see him super competitive. Jebediah Shine the obvious danger. Go Go Green 1pt Win @ 5/1 Paddy Power
Sheerluck Holmes
5.30 Brighton Ecliptic Sunrise is in the form of her life but has gone up 18lbs since her first win and whilst she won commandingly LTO, at 10/11 isn't very attractive as a betting proposition. Preference is for Ada Lovelace who is down to 1lb below her last winning mark (over C&D last August). Not disgraced last time and this is a wee bit easier, especially with George Baker on board in a field full of claiming jocks. Sheerluck Holmes
Hope we can start July with a bang ... 6.30 Newbury An open sprint handicap and one in which Swendab has a great chance if building on his 2nd in class 4 LTO. The race before that however he was behind Dreams of Glory at Bath and it is he who I think has a good chance at decent price (the third place horse that day has gone on to win). Trip and conditions are perfect for the 7yo and he usually comes good at this time of year recording figures of 11114 in July. Ron Hodges has had a great record here (10113) in the last two years and with the claimer putting him back on his last winning mark, he should be competitive. Sheerluck Holmes
5.05 Ayr Could have got this completely wrong, but Go Far seems a huge price in the sprint at Ayr. He's not been in the greatest form of late but was running at 7f the last twice and in much better races than this previous to that. Has won the last twice he's competed in Class 3's at sprint distances and with the jockey's claim, is 5lb lower than the last of those. 28/1 is too tempting to miss. Go Far 0.5pt E/W @ 28/1 Paddy Power 7.25 Windsor Royal Brave and Lady Kyllar should go very well, but a chance is taken with Elusivity, whose win rate is poor but is down in class today and back over C&D where he finished 2nd in April from 1lb higher. 52224162 when running in a class 4 and could go well. Elusivity 0.5pt E/W @ 12/1 Bet365
Sheerluck Holmes
Well, that was a tale of two horses - Go Far backed at 28s and backed into 8s, Elusivity backed at 12s and drifted to 25s. Both never got going though so at least they have that in common.
Sheerluck Holmes
7.10 Bath Like the look of Escalating in the sprint handicap at Bath. The 3yo started his career with promise, tailed off a little but was highly tried after winning at Ascot and this much more up his street. A fair 4th LTO (has always needed a run) he could build on that and at 6/1 is a decent price. Escalating 1pt Win @ 6/1 Coral
Sheerluck Holmes
Doing an excellent job of eroding the profit I've accrued thus far, may as well keep the run going tomorrow ... ! ;) 5.10 Doncaster Balliol is a really interesting prospect but is plenty short enough, so prefrence is for two who are eased in grade and who do well at this level (infact, both won when last seen in a grade 5). Both are decently handicapped and could go well. Sheerluck Holmes
4.05 Ayr Don't usually get involved in class 6 events, but think Chookies Lass has a strong chance in the 5f sprint. This represents a significant drop in grade for the 4yo and whilst she has her own questions to answer (poor strike rate, 0/5 at Ayr), her competitors fair no better. Could simply be too good for these. Tadalavil has a chance but Linda Perrat hasn't had a winner since May - a run stretching back 63 races!
