Jimmy is right, never believe a word they say, especially Mullins. :lol

Re: Weatherbys Champion Bumper > Wednesday March 11th @ 5:15pm Cheltenham 5:15 - Weatherbys Champion Bumper(STANDARD OPEN NATIONAL HUNT FLAT) (Grade 1) (1) 2m 110yds Patrick Mullins would have had his pick of the 7 horses for the bumper, even ahead of Ruby Walsh, so it must be telling that he has opted for BORDINI, who is 7/1 with Bet365. This horse comes here with a serious reputation, one where connections think this horse is a potential future superstar in the makings. The 5 year old has won both his starts under rules with ease thus far, firstly beating Falcon Crest at Punchestown and then going on to Navan to win eased down by 6 lengths. The third that day was a horse called Rock On The Moor, trained by Jessica Harrington, and she went on to win a decent race at Punchestown recently. The 5th, Little King Robin, has some serious form in the book too, so that bumper form could turn out to be quite strong. Mullins had four winners on Day 1, and it will be no surprise if he wins the Bumper too, as he has 7 runners in it! >>>>> Bordini - 2 Points each-way @ 7/1 Bet365 https://www.punterslounge.com/cheltenham-festival/

Re: Weatherbys Champion Bumper > Wednesday March 11th @ 5:15pm 5.15 Cheltenham: Weatherby’s Champion Bumper (2m110y) Interesting stats for this race are that it’s normally a benefit race for the Irish and particularly Willie Mullins who has won it 8 times. The home side won it in 2010 & 2011 but apart from that it’s been a clean sweep for the Irish since the turn of the century. If it was that simple you would think all the previous winners have been fancied runners? Well the last five SP’s have been 16/1, 25/1, 16/1 14/1 and 40/1 and two of those were Mullins horses so don’t just look at his first string. Six of the best; Bordini – The number one Willie Mullins horse for this year and unbeaten in his two races since joining the trainer. He was beaten in his point to point but made a winning bumper debut at Punchestown. He followed up by 6 lengths next time out at Navan and has been the subject of some good reports. Not raced since December so will be a fresh horse and is owned by Rich Ricci. Moon Racer – David Pipe often has a decent runner in this race and is represented by Moon Racer who was bought out of the Michael Ronayne yard at the end of last season. Just one outing for the Pipe’s but a very impressive victory here at Cheltenham by 12 lengths from Arabic History who has gone on to win a novice hurdle. Not ran since October which is a slight worry. Super Sundae – Has three trainers already and he’s only ran twice! Won a Wetherby bumper for Tim Fitzgerald and then went to Andrew Balding. He won at Ascot in good style at the December meeting and beat loads of previous winners that day. Bought by the Potts family soon after and now with Henry de Bromhead. Looks a smart prospect and one to keep on the right side. Vigil – From last years winning stable of Dermot Weld and Vigil in fact ran in the race and was a very respectable 5th to Silver Concorde. It’s unusual for a horse to run in the race twice but we have two such runners this year, Modus being the other. Vigil was only beaten four and a half lengths and has since won at Leopardstown. He remains a decent prospect and the only entry for the yard this season. Modus – Won his first two bumper races in impressive fashion and was my tip to win this race last year but ran way too free and ended up finishing 8th to Silver Concorde. He went to Aintree and was backed into favouritism but things didn’t pan out there. He has now been given a break and the trainer thinks he’s a much better horse now he’s a year older and worth another shot at the race before being raced on the flat next season. Yanworth – he won his first two starts for Alan King at Wincanton and Newbury and was made the 2/1 favourite for an Ascot Listed race where almost all of the runners had won at some point or other. In the end he was second beaten by Super Sundae but it’s probably the best piece of form going into the Festival so has to be on the shortlist here. Verdict: The Mullins record in this race is remarkable so anything he saddles has to be respected but I like to find one against him and this year have opted for Moon Racer from the Pipe yard. Not ran for ages but I’m confident the yard can have him ready and the if the rumours are right he should go close. 1pt Moon Racer 9/1 Paddy Power

Re: Weatherbys Champion Bumper > Wednesday March 11th @ 5:15pm One from the Uk and one from Ireland... Moon Racer - 9\1 PP David Pipe usually likes to have a good go at this and Moon Racer was an impressive winner here at Cheltenham in October. Been off the track since with this the target. Pylonthepressure - 12\1 Skybet Although not 1st or 2nd choice for the stable (Patrick gets 1st pick, then Ruby) has looked decent in 2 bumper runs.

Re: Weatherbys Champion Bumper > Wednesday March 11th @ 5:15pm Champion Bumper - Up For Review 33/1 bet365 & Moon Racer 9/1 Paddy Power Moon Racer doesnt need a great deal of explaining as he has been excellent on his two starts so far and he is with a trainer that knows how to squeeze more out of his horses on the big day. His rating is one of the highest in the field and he has some excellent form to back it up. Up For Review is a Mullins horse and no matter who rides, they all need to be looked at and scrutinized. I am put off by the fact that he only ran 17 days ago but aside from that his form is probably the best of the other Mullins horses. He set the race up for the Gigginstown runner LTO (who would also be a big player in this had he turned up) having set a sedate pace for such a strong stayer and getting done for toe. His form before that has worked out well too, and interestingly the 2nd horse was previously beaten only 9l by Bellshill the time before and on that occasion Bellshill had 3lb less on his back and was all out, whereas Up For Review had more left. I think the horse will relish this test given the strong pace and being by presenting the ground will be more in his favour over here.

Re: Weatherbys Champion Bumper > Wednesday March 11th @ 5:15pm Weatherbys Champion Bumper Business as usual for the Irish with Silver Concorde giving them a ninth win in the last 11 years last season but the highest rated horse on official figures this year is the David Pipe-trained Moon Racer and three of the last 12 winners were top rated. It is tight at the top with Bordini just 1lb back and Ghost River and Pylonthepressure 2lb back. Bordini and Pylonthepressure are two of Willie Mullins’ seven contenders as he goes in search of his ninth win in this race. His others are Au Quart De Tour, Bellshill, Livelovelaugh, Stone Hard and Up For Review. Of those, Bellshill and Up For Review were beaten into second last time out, albeit by high quality horses, so they would get the chop for a trends based short list as 20 of this race’s 22 winners won on their most recent start. Two quite interesting points about Willie Mullins’ eight previous winners; (1) on four occasions when he won the race he saddled just one runner and (2) on three of the other four occasions when he was successful when represented by more than one contender, it was one of his second or third strings according to the betting that emerged on top. Of those eight Mullins-trained winners, six had won their only bumper start and the significant part about that is that only Cue Card in the history of the race has done likewise so that is against Wait For Me. Other horses overlooked for being beaten last time out Always Lion, Modus, who has not run since he was eighth in this race last year and wears a first-time hood, Neatly Put, O O Seven, Theo’s Charm, Yanworth and Montana Belle. It is interesting that Gigginstown House Stud, whose policy has been not to send over any of their army of bumper horses, send over two in Stone Hard and General Principle and the owner’s retained rider, Bryan Cooper, is on the latter for Gordon Elliott who also runs Jetstream Jack. The overall record of the Irish remains immensely strong having won all but five of the 22 runnings from just over 33% of the total runners. Somewhat quirkily, on the five occasions when the Brits have been successful, they also provided the runner-up and even a 1-2-3-4-5-6 in 2003. The British cause wasn’t helped this season when the impressive Ascot winner, Supasundae, was bought out of Andrew Balding’s stable and sent to Henry de Bromhead. No one race stands out as an obvious guide but respect bumper form at the prestigious four-day Leopardstown Christmas Meeting where the best horses in Ireland come out to play and it has featured six Weatherbys Champion Bumper winners. Up For Review impressed winning the bumper restricted to horses aged between four and six but he has been beaten since. The all-aged bumper at the same meeting looked the classiest of the four races beforehand and was won by the Dermot Weld-trained Vigil who had the form having finished fifth in last season’s Champion Bumper. The winner took his time to master Bellshill but, whereas the trainer of the runner-up had stated that he had improved plenty for his last win, Weld hinted he would need the run. It will be interesting to see who starts faviourite as there is usually a gamble but as many as nine favourites (or joint-favourites) have filled the runner-up berth in the 22 runnings with just two successful market leaders which is a poor return for a Grade 1 race. Shortlist Au Quart De Tour Lovelivelaugh Moon Racer Supasundae Conclusion Having won his sole bumper, which is an angle Willie Mullins has done well with in this race, maybe AU QUART DE TOUR could be the best of his septet? I cannot just leave it at one Mullins horse given he has won the race on eight occasions and his LOVELIVELAUGH has the same profile. Both had won also their only point-to-point. Given the BHA top rated has won three times in the last 12 years and other top-rated horses have gone close, then MOON RACER also makes the short list having impressed here back in November. SUPASUNDAE was bought by Alan Potts of Sizing Europe fame and sent to Henry de Bromhead after a very impressive win at Ascoot beating the well regarded Yanworth and horses who have not run in the calendar year have a good record in the race.
