Flat Racing 8th Jan

1.50 Southwell Doesn’t look a huge amount of pace in this race but is always hard to judge around here given most want to be handy. Lucky Mark scored around here on Sunday in front of Amenable. He carries a 6lb penalty for that win and has yet to win off a mark this high in the past so question marks on whether he can do that now. Amenable has got the 6lb turnaround at the weights today and on a good mark at present and appears in good form but been kept very busy recently. Spitfire took a huge step forward again when 2nd in a claimer on Sunday, better chance back in a handicap. He is a quirky sort and not the like to back that effort up. He also has an awkward head carriage under pressure very obvious on Sunday. Rylee Mooch hasn’t always convinced on this surface. Speightowns Kid shaped really well for this rider last time out off same mark, has won off a higher mark before so not handicapped out of things and is trained around here which appears to have helped him recently. His rider leaves a lot to be desired to say the least but he might be worth risking at a price. 2pt win Speightowns Kid 11/2 PP 5.15 Wolverhampton Mr Red Clubs could be on a good mark however no record fresh and probably best watched. Mias Boy is on a lengthy losing run, however a fair effort last time out keeping on well over CD, 2lb lower today and now 17lb below last winning mark one to consider for all he doesn’t win very often. Gabrial The Terror caught the eye under this jockey on return to action last time out around here over the extended 1m1f trip. Not fully exposed and should have more to offer especially if stripping fitter however slight concern the drop in trip. Geordan Murphy won a maiden in October on the turf at Windsor before following that effort up in a handicap with a win off a mark of 75 again on turf, not quite so good on polytrack at Kempton off revised mark of 79 but was successful last time out in a claimer at Kempton in good style. Didn’t really need to improve to potentially win that runs off 80 today back in a handicap and does need to step forward again. Miniskirt is the most interesting for me, showed form around here in a 4 runner maiden over CD before bolting up at Southwell in a weak affair. Opening mark doesn’t look over bearing and should continue to improve and looks one to stay on the right side of. 2pt win Miniskirt 13/2 PP
