Ascot 3:50 - Betfair Ascot Chase (Grade 1) It will be interesting to see how Hunt Ball runs after several months in the United States of America and the much loved horse is now trained by Nicky Henderson. I will be surprised if the master trained can't get a tune out of him eventually and although tomorrow might not be his day he is certainly a horse to keep a close eye on. Riverside Theatre is a talented horse, no question, but he is not a horse I can place much faith in as he spends most of his races off the bridle. He should be staying on well late in the day though so if he stays in contention he has to have a chance. The clear value in the race for me though is the Paul Nicholls trained Rolling Aces who has a lot of potential and hopefully he can give Captain Chris something to think about. Re: BBOTD > Saturday February 15th 4.05 Haydock - Caledonia 1pt win @ 50/1 Bet365 Going to take a chance on one of the outsiders of the field here in the Jim Goldie trained Caledonia. This horse was a very good bumper horse despite only winning once on his racecourse debut. He finished 2nd to Fine Rightly, 3rd to Oscar Rock, 10th in the Cheltenham bumper and finally 3rd in a grade 2 bumper at Aintree. This horse was always going to be suited be stepping up in distance so it was no surprise to see him struggle on the flat over distances ranging from 10f to 18f. His best performance on the flat did actually come over 18f at York where he finished 4th of 17 behind Be Perfect. That was in October last year and connections wasted no time in getting this horse over hurdles bringing him out the following month in a hot contest at Newcastle. Caledonia was still travelling well in the race when sprawling on landing 4 out, which put an end to any chance this horse had of getting involved. That was a good race to start off in so connections must feel they have a decent horse and that theory is enhanced by the fact they are pitching him straight into a grade 2 event tomorrow. The big factor for me with this horse is that he will be getting very testing conditions, which horses by Sulamani thrive in. The step up to 3m should be within his compass and I am hopeful of a big run if he can cut out any jumping errors. It is a very hot race but I expect Caledonia to love the conditions tomorrow and maybe that will give him a small edge over his rivals.
