swooperman
Re: West Indies v South Africa Nearly tea now.....& Gibbs & Kallis still there, boring everybody to death......to be fair, theyve had little choice. It looks a certain draw now........maybe a wicket straight after tea??....nah, dreaming. Stupidly enough if they did seperate these & got Boucher straight away I wouldnt fancy the rest but running out of time now.
davidmphill
Re: West Indies v South Africa Its a draw! SA reach a mind numbing 269-4 off 161 overs! Test match cricket at its exciting best but hats off to SA for saving the game and in particularly Jaques Kallis for a marvellous patient knock. Interesting to see how the 2nd test goes now the 'rebels' are available for selection.

swooperman
Re: West Indies v South Africa 2nds Test. Queens Park Oval, Port-of-Spain, Trinindad. (starts friday) Overall record: 53m, 18 won by side batting 1st, 15 won by side batting second, 0 tied, 20 drawn. West Indies record: m53, won 17, lost 16, drawn 20. WI won toss & batted: 15 (4 won, 6 lost) WI won toss & fielded: 11 (won 5, lost 2) West Indies have lost the last 4 tests on this ground. Recent tests: 2003/4. WI 208 (60.1) & 209 (67). ENG 319 (137.5) & 99-3. ENG won by 7 wkts 2002/3. AUS 576-4d (132.5) & 239-3d (66.2). WI 408 (119) & 288 (99.2). AUS won by 119 runs. 2001/2. IND 339 (115.5) & 218 (92.1). WI 245 (77.5) & 275 (115.1). IND won by 38 runs. 2000/1. SA 286 (86.5) & 287 (130.4). WI 342 (125) & 162 (80.1). SA won by 70 runs. The 2000/1 test was the only previous meeting between these 2 on this ground. Avg runs per wkt: 30.84 with a breakdown of 1)30.9, 2) 32.0, 3) 31.1, 4) 27.4 Avg run rate: 2.67 Notable personal records on this ground: Lara 11m, 786r, 122hs, avg 37.42. 1x100 Chanderpaul 7m, 464r, 79hs, avg 35.69 Weather forecast is showers throughout the match including the days leading up to it. Another difficult one to judge I think, what with the 'rebels' becoming available again & 4 of them being included here (Lara, Gayle, Sarwan, Bravo) How will it affect the WI team, who performed well over expectations in Guyana? The WI batting with Lara, Gayle & Sarwan in is definetly stronger, but the dispute has cost Lara his captaincy, & how will he react? He has been temperemental in the past, & it will be interesting to see if Chanderpaul consults him on the pitch whilst fielding, & if he does, what will be his attitude? Its easy to say everybody plays for their country, but there is form here...... On the plus side for the WI, Pollock is still missing & the SA bowling looked poor without him in Guyana. Ntini may have had an off match, but if hes poor again he will be open to the suggestion he needs Pollock to hold his hand. Nel was the only one to come out with any credit, & that was as a tryer alone. So with stronger batting, WI have to be value @ 4/1, surely, but they have a poor recent record here, having lost the last 4. Weather will be an issue again, with around 78 overs having been lost in Guyana in the first four days, arguably it saved SA. The problem is that I think both bowling attacks are relatively poor, & if time will be lost again, will either side have enough to get 20 wickets? I cant see the SA batting failing twice against this attack, but the WI batting is very Man City/Pakistan like & could fold, but the SA bowling is pretty poor without Pollock. I think West Indies, to win, have to bat first & post a big total again, putting the SA top order under pressure, as I dont think the bowling alone is good enough. Angling towards covering the draw with a WI win at 4/1, dont see value in SA at 6/4.

swooperman
Re: West Indies v South Africa Forgot to mention that without Pollock, SA have to bat Boucher @ 6, which I feel is one too high TBH, & makes them slightly weaker, cos Ive never been convinced about Hall when the chips are down. swooperman
Re: West Indies v South Africa West Indies won the toss & are batting, currently 72-2 off 26ish, after being 13-2 off 8. Lara approaching 50. SA dropped Hall & picked Ashwell Prince, who will presumably bat at 6 with Boucher going down to 7. Langeveldt dropped for Zondeki. swooperman
Re: West Indies v South Africa 108-3 after 35.5 ovs, Hinds just caught 1st slip for 32. Ntini got all 3 for 31 off 11 so far. Lara on 59, batting well. Boje on already, dunno whether thats the slow over rate though. Ntinis standing up, credit where its due, SA had just gone out to 3/1 as well.......... At the toss, Graeme Smith described it as a result pitch, "we want to bat first whilst its still ok to bat on...." :( hmmm....maybe the weather might not be that important! swooperman
Re: West Indies v South Africa Forgot the odds, Stan James: WI 5/1 draw Evs SA 5/4 SA were 6/5 last night & I think the draw was 11/10, & the weather forecast is scattered showers throughout, indeed from now, so must be that. Same forecast as last test though, & I dont remember much time lost there. If Pollock plays, has to be SA, only worry is that its a dead test, as it were, & in the same situation last yea, on the same ground, Lara scored 400 not out........although you would have thought he must be a bit tired after 2 near double tons!! ross h
Re: West Indies v South Africa I am gonna have a bash at the Windies. The 6/1 is too tempting for me with this being a dead rubber. Reports suggest the pitch will be quite sharp and this will be tailormade for Fidel Edwards and the returning Tino Best to have a dart. Nel looks like missing out and, whilst Pollock is top notch, he could be a bit rusty. Add to all this the fact that dead rubbers often go the way of the inferior team the price on offer is sufficiently tempting for me to have a dabble. The weather forecast is also looking fine incidentally.
