Narrowing the field

Recommended Posts

Hi chaps, Just interested to hear if you use any tehcniques or if there is anything specific you look for when for narrowing a field down before getting down to the nitty gritty with a handful of horses? Or do you, like I have been doing, just look at every horse in the field and go from there, eliminating one by one? I did read something the other day about taking all the forecast odds, then eliminating all horse priced more than the number of runners (i.e. in an 8 runner field elimate all the horses 9/1+). You then eliminate all the horses which have prices under the reminaing runners (i.e. if there are 5 runners left, you eliminate all horses 4/1 and under). You can then concentrate on the remainder. This picqued my interest for a bit but I'm presuming it's bollocks. Just interested in your thoughts. :)

Re: Narrowing the field Hi Peacock. Everyone has their own methods, for me personally it is all about price. I tend to look for trainers that have done well at that particular track in recent times, maybe look at their last 50 runners at the track and then of course after getting my 3 or 4 horses try to figure out which one looks the best value based on it's form.
