Flat Racing > Tuesday January 7th

Southwell 3:45 The ex Sir Michael Stoute trained Botanist could look a big price come to off in a race of this nature. The gelding back in his day won a Class 4 Leicester maiden in good fashion as a two year old and although he is nowhere near that ability wise now, he is running in a terrible Class 6 contest at Southwell tomorrow. He had his stable debut here at Southwell 9 days ago and finished well down the field but they could well have him in decent shape after that run as he must have needed the run for fitness. They are also stepping the horse back to a mile which could aid his cause and the yard had a runner run well here at Southwell yesterday, Major Muscari. At 22/1 I am willing to have an investment. Botanist WIN @ 22/1 Bet Victor

Re: Flat Racing > Tuesday January 7th Southwell 1.00 Jawaab went over a year without a win and finally took advantage of a lenient mark at Wolves on penultimate start, up 6lb for it and finished 2nd over this CD in an amateur event some 11lengths off the winner but in turn 15 lengths clear of 3rd so still in reasonable form but doesn’t strike out as an obvious winner on the back of that. Opus still a maiden, yet to try this surface and this is a big step up in trip. Shirls Son Sam similar story although has tried surface and was a poor effort. Another similar story with Omega Omega who did run slightly better over shorter last time out but remains a maiden and didn’t shape as in need of a step up in trip. Celebrian ran better last time out beaten less than 2 lengths over slightly shorter here, that did appear a little out of knowhere other than first try on this surface so may have more to come on this surface but does need to back it up. Pass The Time has been running well over hurdles in November, and based on that looks well treated back on the flat but hasn’t been as good on the flat in the past. It might be worth taking a risk on Cape Safari not seen for just over a year but boasts an impressive course record of 3 wins from 4, they have all been over shorter but this race might not take much winning and handicapper has been dangerously lenient dropping him to a mark of 60 having last won off 75 around here over 2f shorter. Also has apprentice taking 5lb off on top! Also worth noting cheekpieces are on for this first run so perhaps not being used as a pipe opener and has worn them for every win so far. 2pt win Cape Safari 4/1 bet365 3.15 Southwell None of these are gonna set the world alight but one of them has to win and I am gonna take a chance on one of them carrying my money. Moss Hill has become an extremely frustrating maiden having blown some pretty straight forward looking opportunities, had one try on this surface and some way off. Offbeat Safaris has a poor strike rate of 1 from 27 and only made debut on surface last time out over CD, not a bad effort but more required to be winning this off same mark. Red Shadow has yet to win on surface and showed a mix bag on it, not at best recently and probably best passed over. Heidis Delight only has one win to her name and that was over CD and has dropped to just 1lb above last winning mark but was soundly held last time out, blinkers returning need to spark something. Mucky Molly might be worth chancing in a weak race. She wasn’t beaten far last time out and was well clear of the 4th she is 1lb below her last winning mark and has form off slightly higher marks. Lee also a strong booking. 2pt win Mucky Molly 5/2 bet365 3.45 Southwell General Tufto had been hinting his time was close and got up narrowly last time out over CD, a 6lb penalty tough ask at his age now and some time since he has been competitive off this sort of mark and will need to be on a going day which can be a little in and out. Tijuca was going the right way when last seen, not seen for nearly a year though so something to prove on fibresand debut. Bladewood Girl needs to bounce back from a poor run last time out, she continues to come down the handicap and does act on this surface. Mataajir is well handicapped 3lb below last winning mark over slightly shorter around here, didn’t appear to stay on penultimate start over CD and no better on polytrack last time and something to prove for now. The Troyster looks a typical Ellison plot job on just his 2nd run for the inform yard running off a basement mark, there was definitely signs of ability last time out over this course over 6f when staying on after the race was over looking badly in need of more of a test, steps up a further 2f today and likely to improve again for the run. 2pt win The Troyster 6/1 bet365
