Query on how Origin of Horse is determined

Hi There is an interesting thread from Cowan which looks at horses running at Southwell with an USA origin .I assumed the origin had to do with sire,dam and maybe dam of sire but the winner of the last race puzzles me . Horse - Mappin Time(IRE) Sire - Orientate(USA) Dam - Different Story(USA) Sire of Dam - Stravinsky(USA) Breeder J Jamgotchian(USA) Could someone explain please why Mappin Time should not have USA as origin ? Thank You Tom
