Food for thought

Recommended Posts

Who are the experts in working out the odds? The bookies of course. The problem is that they have profit within the odds that they offer, so they are not a true representation. It may also be that they they know everyone will want to bet a certain way on an event, and adjust the odds accordingly. The key to more successful betting could be in unravelling how they have set their lines to find out their real assessment. Comparisons between different bookies may be part of the solution, coupled with comparisons to exchange markets. The exchange markets are generally tied to somewhere near the best bookie odds for favourites but probably offer a better ratio of 1,X and 2 odds. Those of you who compile your own odds would probably have a similar ratio to the exchanges but possibly a quite different odd for the favourite.

I think this is one of the key differences on major events. Assuming Im only laying said amount on the result Ive set my liabilitie limit and can afford to lay at the price Im happy with. Bookies will adjust their "opinion" price to accomadate for how much money they expect to take on each outcome. Remember , the bookies not trying to pick winners, theyre trying to take enough money on each outcome at the right price to guarentee them a profit whatever the result.
