Wolverhampton 4:30 - Ladbrokes Mobile Handicap (4) Going to have a punt on the Mick Easterby trained Oil Strike who has a 100% record on the all-weather (2/2) which I find a very interesting stat. His last All-weather run was in 2010 at Lingfield off a mark of 88 and he won a Class 3 handicap that day. Tomorrow he runs off an 8 pound lower mark of 80 in Class 4 company and moving back onto this surface could be just what the horse needs right now. Oil Strike WIN @ 20/1 William Hill

4.30 - Wolverhampton - Fieldgunner Kirkup @ 10/1 Betvictor I think this is a fairly generous price for a horse back down below his last winning mark. Fieldgunner Kirkup hasn't been in the best of form since winning on turf in April but he's starting to slip down to a tempting mark. He was well backed last time out after a fair run at Newcastle the time before and I think he'll pick up another race before long. Graham Gibbons rides and he has won aboard the horse 4 times and obviously has a good record for this trainer. He makes his AW debut which doesn't worry me as the sire stats are positive enough and the yard have a super record here (7 from 19 in the last year), David Barron is in tremendous form despite not having many runners at this time of year (4 of his last 7 runners have won) and I feel he has another good chance here. A 62 day break should have freshened him up and he goes well fresh with form figures of 1-2-4-2 after a lay off of this length or longer.

Flat Racing 18th Nov 3.30 Wolverhampton Hawk Mountain is on a tempting mark but only one try on the AW and that didn’t set the world alight and recent turf efforts also below par and best watched at present. Eshtyaaq won last time out on turf hasn’t been seen for 2 months which is a slight concern, only up 2lb and still looks on a good mark based on form from a few years back does need to show he is as good as he once promised to be. Caterina De Medici showed some promise on penultimate start in a maiden on polytrack over 1m4f, disappointed last time out in handicap on turf. Could easily bounce back returned to polytrack and is one to watch. My History comes here from a yard that demands respect throughout the AW season but he has shown nothing since winning a maiden on 2nd start, steps up dramatically in distance today so might be of interest. Flemish School is consistent without winning and is another stepping up dramatically in trip again, not sure to stay. Clearly holds no secrets from the handicapper at present. Alpine Mysteries has been in great form around here recently over slightly shorter and looks likely to be suited to a step up in trip, this mark is clearly demanding more now though. Aiyana is one of only a couple who have proven themselves over this trip winning over a 1f shorter at Lingfield last month, appeared to win very cosily last time out and a 3lb rise may well be very lenient for this unexposed sort. Happy Families was behind that day and looks to need more than a 3lb turnaround to be turning that form around. 2pt win Aiyana 6/1 VC
