Flat Racing 10th Oct Thursday

8.10 Kempton Poor looking race lacking much depth. Capriska looks a very short price given she has been soundly beaten last few times in poor races, she remains a maiden with something to prove and one to tread carefully with. Rock Of Ages makes interest after several NHF races and a 3 maidens and 1 handicap over 1m6f at Southwell, has run well on polytrack before but has gone up 3lb and will now need to prove stamina for this trip on flat and back the effort up last time out, breeding wouldn’t suggest he will stay this sort of trip. Jezz ran a stinker at Wolves last time out but easily excused with how the track is riding but Hughes a very strong booking although is still 2lb above last winning mark. Minty Fox is unexposed but has stamina to prove over this trip and although there is some stamina in breeding it wouldn’t suggest this marathon trip will suit but one to watch. Neighbourhood stays this trip but is better on the fibresand. Proud Times looks in the grip of the handicapper after an easy win in July. Graylyn Ruby comes back from a huge absence but if anywhere near his best handicapper has given him a real chance dropping him to 11lb below last winning mark well worth watching in this contest. But for me Ice Apple is worth another chance she has improved for the step up in trip, she travelled quite nicely last time out before looking in need of the run and should strip fitter this time, handicapper dropped her a 1lb again so only 2lb above when she was runner up over CD in May and she may well be able to break her duck over this trip in a weak race like this. 1pt e/w Ice Apple 20/1 pp

Re: Flat Racing 10th Oct Thursday 3.40 - Ayr - Khefyn @ 14/1 Coral I must say i quite fancy Khefyn tomorrow at what looks a big price to me. On the basis of his efforts this season most people would pass him over with little chance in this contest but i feel there's a couple of things which suggest to me he could run his best race this season. The first of these is the slight drop in grade he takes. All of the races he has contested this season have been competitive class 4/5 events but even though tomorrows race is a class 5 contest, it lacks any depth at all and is as weak as any class 6 race. The second main reason for optimism is his decent showings when there is cut in the ground, both career wins have come with soft in the going description, and his best showing this season also came when there was cut in the ground which he should also encounter tomorrow. He was in the process of potentially running a good race lto when clipping heel just over 1f out and losing all momentum and i just feel that now he is being given some respite from the handicapper (now down to a mark of 62) i feel he could gain a win before this turf season is out. Its also worth noting his trainer Ron Harris is making the long journey up to Ayr, a course he doesnt have many runners at, so i'm guessing he is hopeful of a good run or 2. He has 2 runners in this race, the other being Starlight Angel, who should have a good chance based on her last run but the fact she hasn't been seen for a couple of months and she is a comparatively short price puts me off slightly. Khefyn's last win came off a mark of 65 on soft ground, routing the field by 6L so he definitely has the ability and at a big price he is worth a bet imo.
